1 dead, 3 hurt in high school graduation shooting in Northern California, officials say

One person died and three others were injured in a shooting Wednesday night at a high school graduation in Northern California, officials said.

A spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department said the shooting happened around 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot at Sem Yeto High School’s graduation ceremony, which was being held at Fairfield High School, southwest of Sacramento.

One of the victims was declared dead at the scene, and the other three were receiving treatment at area hospitals, officials said. The severity of their injuries was not known.

Mayor Alma Hernandez of neighboring Suisun City wrote in a Facebook post that a search was underway for the shooter.

In a statement to CBS News Sacramento, a Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District spokesperson said the shooting happened after the ceremony had ended.

The ages of the victims were not yet known. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. A suspect description was not available.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office said it was assisting Fairfield police with the investigation.  

Sem Yeto is a continuation high school and shares a physical campus with Fairfield High.
