COPENHAGEN: Protesters in Denmark and Greenland demonstrated on Saturday against President Donald Trump’s demand that the Arctic island be ceded to the US and called for it to be left to determine its own future.

Trump says Greenland is vital to US security because of its strategic location and large mineraldeposits, and has not ruled out using force to take it. European nations this week sent military personnel to the island at Denmark’s request.

In Copenhagen, demonstrators chanted “Greenland is not for sale” and held up slogans such as “No means No” and “Hands off Greenland” alongside the territory’s red-and-white flag as they marched to the US embassy.

Some wore red baseball caps resembling the “Make America Great Again” caps of Trump supporters, but with the slogan “Make America Go Away”.

In Greenland’s capital Nuuk, hundreds of protesters led by Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen carried flags and similar banners as they headed for the US consulate.

They passed a newly built block where Washington plans to move its consulate – currently a red wooden building with four staff.

Organisers estimated over 20,000 people attended the protest in Copenhagen – akin to the entire population of Nuuk – though police did not provide an official figure. Other protests were held across Denmark.

“I am very grateful for the huge support we as Greenlanders receive … we are also sending a message to the world that you all must wake up,” said Julie Rademacher, chair of Uagut, an organisation for Greenlanders in Denmark.

Trump triggers diplomatic rift

Trump’s repeated statements about the island have triggered a diplomatic crisis between the US and Denmark, both founding members of the NATO military alliance, and have been widely condemned in Europe.

The territory of 57,000 people, governed for centuries from Copenhagen, has carved out significant autonomy since 1979 but remains part of Denmark, which controls defence and foreign policy, and funds much of the administration.

Some 17,000 Greenlanders live in Denmark, according to Danish authorities.

All five parties elected to Greenland’s parliament ultimately favour independence, but they disagree on the timing and have recently said they would rather remain part of Denmark than join the US

Only 17% of Americans approve of Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland, and large majorities of Democrats and Republicans oppose using military force to annex it, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found. Trump called the poll “fake”.

  • BCB shares concerns regarding players safety, security.
  • Talks with ICC conducted in constructive manner: BCB.
  • BCB, ICC to continue engaging in “constructive dialogue”.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday said it held discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding a possible group swap to ensure its participation in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

In a statement, the BCB said that it discussed the proposal during a meeting with ICC representatives on matters regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming tournament.

“During the discussions, the BCB reiterated its formal request to the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka,” it added.

The cricket board said that it shared the government’s views and concerns regarding the safety and security of the team, Bangladeshi fans, media and other stakeholders.

Bangladesh, drawn in Group C, are set to play their first three group matches in Kolkata — against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 — before concluding their group stage against Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.

The BCB refused to send its team to India, co-host of the T20 World Cup alongside Sri Lanka, citing concerns about the safety and wellbeing of players and support staff, requesting the ICC to move its games to another venue outside India.

The announcement came after the Indian cricket board forced Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman to quit the Indian Premier League (IPL), sparking fury in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the BCB said that its discussions with the ICC were conducted in a constructive, cordial and professional manner.

“Among other points, the possibility of moving Bangladesh to a different group as a means of facilitating the matter with minimum logistical adjustments was discussed,” the cricket board added.

The BCB and the ICC agreed to continue engaging in constructive dialogue on the matter.

Gaurav Saxena, general manager of Events and Corporate Communications, and Andrew Ephgrave, general manager of Integrity Unit, represented the ICC delegation.

Saxena attended the meeting virtually after his Bangladesh visa issuance faced a delay.

BCB’s committee comprised President Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Cricket Operations Committee Director and Chairman Nazmul Abedeen, and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.

Alison Arngrim reflects on her over-the-top ‘Little House on the Prairie’ audition

Alison Arngrim just looked back at her “hysterical” audition for Little House on the Prairie.

The 63-year-old American actress and author played the role of Nellie Oleson in the historical drama television series loosely based on the Little House on the Prairie book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

At the 50th Anniversary Reunion of Little House on the Prairie, Arngrim reflected on securing the role of the show’s bully after facing rejection from previous auditions for the core Little House cast.

She said, “I did not read the books … but I auditioned for everything as a kid. So, I go and audition for the part of Laura and the part of Mary, and I didn’t get them. I remember saying, ‘It’s because I’m not a country girl.’”

The Even in Dreams star was asked again to give an audition mainly because they wanted to expand the Ingalls family’s world after the series was picked up.

Arngrim recalled, “Then I get a call, ‘You need to go down to Paramount to read for the Little House on the Prairie. And I remember I said, ‘But I did that. And they cast it. They made it on TV, which is great. So, what do you mean?’”

She still consented to read for the part, without knowing what it would involve.

Arngrim remembered, “These were the days when, especially kid actors, they just throw you a page and they tell you nothing. And so I get these scenes, I don’t know, they didn’t say she’s mean or anything,”

“And I’m sitting there with my dad, sitting on stairs [because] there’s no seats left at the audition, and I start reading, and I’m like, ‘Wait, what?’ And I turned to my father, and I said, ‘This is not a normal part,’” she elaborated.

Spencer Pratt has spoken candidly about his good friends from the industry.

While speaking to US Weekly ahead of the release of his upcoming book, The Guy You Loved to Hate, Pratt talked about some of his most memorable experiences.

He began by sharing that he used to be closed friends with Meryl Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer as they spent time on the sets of Death Becomes Her together.

“Growing up, my best friend — and I was so young I didn’t even appreciate it — was Meryl Streep‘s daughter Mamie Gummer. I was on set multiple nights with her for Death Becomes Her, which now I look back, I’m like, ‘What a dope movie!’” Pratt began.

He went on to recall hanging out with Joe, the son of Jim Abrahams, during the filming of Hot Shots movies.

He added, “My other close friend was the director [Jim Abrahams] son Joe Abrahams, so I was on the set of all the Hot Shots movies with Charlie Sheen when he was all buff. I walked on the set of Armageddon.”

Pratt also reminisced about Adam Sandler’s early days in his book, which is slated to be released on 27th January 2026.

He moved on to a new topic by saying, “Growing up all the time in the kitchen at my buddy Zach’s house was just Adam Sandler at peak Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison.”

Gaten Matarazzo remembers awkward interaction with ‘Stranger Things’ fan

Gaten Matarazzo became widely popular through his portrayal of Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things. But there is a downside to fame, too.

For the actor, that was an odd interaction with a fan.

“This woman in her 40s said straight up, ‘I’ve had a crush on you since you were 13.’ And I was like, ‘That’s upsetting’ … then she doubled down. She was like, ‘I’m aware of the age difference.’ … her daughter was with her, and her daughter goes, ‘Mom, what the ****?’ I swear to God,” she said,” he previously told Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast.

In other news, a documentary on Stranger Things is showing what went on behind the camera during the making of the finale.

But in the doc, David Harbour and Winona Ryder did not feature in a one-on-one interview. But the series director, Martina Radwan, said they were not interviewed due to scheduling conflicts.

“No, they’re not [in it]. We just didn’t get the time. They were busy with other projects, and so we didn’t have the time to sit down,” he told Variety.

The filmmaker also said the two-hour documentary was meant to show the people close to the production.

“There aren’t interviews with people beyond the show itself. It’s the Duffers, it’s the cast, it’s the department heads. There’s so much information about Stranger Things out in the world that I wanted to keep it in the bubble. Anything that you need to know outside of the show, you can get — it’s out there.”

Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix.

Gaten Matarazzo has spoken candidly about the bond he shares with Stranger Things cast.

In a new chat with GQ Magazine, the acting sensation has shared heartfelt thoughts about the time he shared with the cast members of the Netflix series.

Recalling the time when all the cast members came to watch the finale together in New York, he said, “It was tremendously emotional.”

“We needed to share that with each other before we shared it with the world. We could appreciate the work that had been put in on our end as a collective.”

“These are some of my best friends, my family, and people I’ll have for the rest of my life,” he added.

He also praised the collective effort made by the cast members to make the show binge-worthy.

“And it’s been a crazy group effort, and I don’t think we would have wanted to see it with anybody else. I’m glad we were able to get it done,” he concluded.

It is noteworthy of the sci-fi drama included, Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven/Jane Hopper, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, and Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna/Henry Creel alongside Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson.

Everything to know about NASA’s Artemis II mission

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is taking a significant step toward returning humans to the Moon.

This weekend, the agency began rolling its colossal Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft to the launch pad at Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre, setting the stage for the historic Artemis II mission.

The mission is scheduled to launch on February 6, 2026. This will be the first crewed mission to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.

It will last a 10-day flight while carrying four astronauts, including NASA’s Reid Wiseman (commander), Victor Glover (pilot), Christina Koch (mission specialist), and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

The most important point to consider is that Artemis II will not land on the Moon. Instead, it is a critical test flight to authenticate the spacecraft’s systems with a crew on board.

After launching, Orion will perform two orbits of Earth before a powerful engine burn sends it on a trajectory around the Moon.

The capsule will orbit the far side of the Moon, possibly breaking the record for the farthest mankind has ever ventured from Earth, and then use the Moon’s gravity to propel it back to Earth, where it will land via splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

With this “free-return” trajectory, the crew will be able to return safely to Earth without major engine burns after the lunar flyby.

The mission will pave the way for Artemis III by testing Orion’s life-support, navigation, and communication systems in deep space, aiming to land astronauts near the Moon’s south pole by 2028.
