Carol Burnett sings praises of late Jimmy Stewart: ‘He had THIS’

Carol Burnett recently got candid and opened up about meeting her “movie star idol,” Jimmy Stewart.

While conversing with Laura Dern for an interview, the 92-year-old American actress, singer, writer, and comedian revealed she got a chance to meet Stewart, one of the artists she adored the most.

During the conversation, Dern unveiled that Burnett was blessed with the “kind of power” that brought out the best in people on a set, confessing that she influenced many with humility and grace.

The 58-year-old American actress’ description gave the Better Call Saul actress an impression of Stewart, whom she once met.

Burnett gushed, “One of the nicest people I ever met in my life was my movie star idol, and that was Jimmy Stewart. Everybody loved him.”

“Of course, if you want to give somebody power, he certainly had it,” the Palm Royale star added. “But there was nobody that I ever met who was that big of a star who was so humble.”

“That’s who he was. God knows he did some wonderful work and made some fantastic movies, but there was nobody that I ever knew that was sweeter, and that’s just who he was,” Burnett remarked, singing praises of the Vertigo actor.

For those unaware, Stewart, who passed away due to cardiac arrest and pulmonary embolism at the age of 89 on July 2, 1977, got his breakthrough in the 1932 Broadway show Carry Nation.

It is pertinent to mention that he also served in the United States army during World War II ahead of returning to his successful acting career.

FLORENCE, Italy — Rocco Commisso, the outspoken owner of Italian soccer club Fiorentina and chairman of New York-based Mediacom Communications, has died. He was 76.

Both Fiorentina and Mediacom announced Commisso’s death early Saturday without providing a cause.

“After a prolonged period of medical treatment, our beloved president has left us, and today we all mourn his passing,” Fiorentina said. “His love for Fiorentina was the greatest gift he gave himself.”

After making Mediacom into one of the United States’ biggest cable television companies, Commisso purchased Fiorentina in 2019 and became known for speaking out against Italy’s bureaucracy and inability to build new stadiums.

Commisso was born in Calabria and immigrated to the United States at the age of 12.

He also owned the New York Cosmos, and played soccer at Columbia University, the Ivy League school that he continued to support philanthropically. The university’s soccer stadium is named for him.

The Cosmos called Commisso “a passionate leader who dedicated his life to the game of soccer and to the future of the sport in this country.

“Rocco fought for what is best for American soccer, believing in the growth of the game, the importance of community, and the power of clubs to inspire the next generation,” the New York club said on X.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino also paid tribute to Commisso.

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Rocco Commisso, the president of Fiorentina, who dedicated his life to our wonderful sport,” Infantino wrote on Instagram. “When I met him he spoke to me about his players like his children, about his club like a part of himself. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him and worked with him. A Great.”

At Fiorentina, Commisso celebrated reaching the Conference League final in 2023 and 2024.

But the team has struggled this season and is currently in Serie A’s relegation zone.

Commisso is survived by his wife, Catherine, and two children, Giuseppe and Marisa.

Clothes you should never wash in your washing machine, like ever! - The Times of India

Washing machines are a gift of science to humans which have made life easier. However, you just can’t keep throwing anything or everything in the name of washing inside your machine! Now, you need to understand that there are some clothes that aren’t meant to be washed in a machine, because they are delicate fabric which can’t survive the rigorous spinning and water pressure or the harsh detergents. Remember, pulling your favourite sweater out of the washer all shrunken, or misshapen bra? On this note, let’s have a look at the clothes you should never (like ever) put into a washing machine, no matter how tired you are! Go ahead:Delicate lingeries (Underwired ones, never!)Your delicate lingeries should never see the face of a washing machine, especially the underwired bras. These are among the biggest victims of washing machines. The vigorous spinning can snap the wires, which may later become pokey through the fabric. It can cause severe discomfort to your skin, or damage your machine’s drum as well. So be extra careful and gently hand wash in cold water. You’ll notice issues like weakened elastics and collapsed cups, among others.Silk, satin clothing

Silk, satin clothing

In fact, your silk clothes, undergarments, nighties should also never know how a machine looks. Silk, satin, or any luxury fabrics are sensitive to detergent, machine, heat, and friction. Even a “delicate” cycle can cause silk to lose its natural shine. Sometimes satin fabrics may come out with irreparable damage. Either dry clean or hand wash with gentle detergent.Cashmere sweaters

Cashmere sweaters

canva

It’s like a nightmare come true! Cashmere is a costly fabric which needs special attention and care. It is a clothing disaster to see a shrunken Cashmere sweater. The fibres react to spinning and temperature. Machine wash often leads to felting. Remember, it is an irreversible damage. It’s suggested to hand wash in cold water or get the cloth dry cleaned.Leather and faux leather Never put your leather jackets, pants or skirts into the washing machine. Water causes the natural oils from leather an irreversible harm. It can leave the leather cracked or warped. Faux leather is also not safe for washing in the machines. The plastic coating can peel or crack can appear. You can clean your leather clothes using a damp cloth or get professional help.Heavy embellished clothes

If your shirt has sequins, beads, or mirror work, these should be hand washed separately as these are not machine friendly. The spinning can damage the sequin or beads work. It can also damage the filter of the machine by clogging it with beads and other things. Gentle hand washing or dry cleaning is suggested for such clothes.SwimwearSwimsuits may look sturdy, but are fragile. The machine can weaken swimwear fibres and can leave them stretched. Continuous machine wash can break down the elasticity of your swimwear faster. Rinse your swimwear with cold water soon after use.Neckties and Scarves

Ties are structured garments. They lose their shapes that don’t do well with water and detergent. Machine washing can cause bubbling and also it can ruin their shape permanently.Clothes with “Dry Clean Only” labelsDon’t ignore the label, it’s there for a reason. Fabrics which read “dry clean only” often use dyes or linings that don’t gel well with water. Don’t wash them in the machine. Ignoring these labels is not a good idea for your wardrobe. After all, all your clothes deserve a little extra care.

She says acting is a dream of hers, hopes to continue after starring in Ryan Murphy’s ‘The Beauty’

Bella Hadid is looking to expand her career beyond modelling with her upcoming role in FX’s The Beauty. The supermodel, who has graced the covers of Vogue more than 30 times and was named Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council in 2022, recently shared her aspirations during the show’s New York City premiere.

“I would love to keep continuing acting after this. This is a dream of mine,” Hadid told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve brought my art side and my creativity to modeling, but at the end of the day, I love being able to move, and I love film and acting in general. I love actors because they can be different characters for so many different people.”

Hadid highlighted the opportunity to work with Ryan Murphy as a major factor in joining the project. “Ryan has just an incredible brain. I love his brain. I love his heart. He’s somebody I really look up to when it comes to directing, and I think he brings fantasy into so many things. I’m just grateful that he brought me onto this opportunity,” she said.

In The Beauty, Hadid portrays a model who becomes part of a dark narrative involving a super drug that wreaks havoc in the fashion world. While her character is a model, Hadid emphasised that the experience was very different from her real-life profession. “The modeling has no connection to what I did on this set, to be honest, it was the complete opposite of anything I’ve ever done,” she noted.

The series, which stars Ashton Kutcher as a tech billionaire, explores the extremes people will go to for beauty. Hadid’s message is simple: “Just be who you are.” The cast also includes Evan Peters, Rebecca Hall, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, with a host of guest stars including Isabella Rossellini, Jaquel Spivey and Vincent D’Onofrio. The first three episodes premiere on January 21, 2026, followed by weekly releases.

Hadid began her modeling career aged 16. She was signed to IMG Models in August 2014, and made her New York Fashion Week debut the following month. In 2016, she was voted “Model of the Year” by industry professionals for Models.com. In 2017, Hadid broke Doutzen Kroes’s record for the most Vogue September covers in one year by appearing in five international editions. As of 2023, Hadid was one of the world’s highest paid models, earning $19 million. Hadid was born on October 9, 1996, in Washington, D.C. Her father, Mohamed Hadid, is a Palestinian-American real estate developer, while her mother, Yolanda Hadid (née van den Herik), is a Dutch former model. Through her father, Hadid claims descent from Daher al-Umar, ruler of northern Palestine in the mid-18th century. She has an older sister, Gigi Hadid, and a younger brother, both of whom are also models.

She also has two older paternal half-sisters. In May 2025, Hadid and her sister Gigi announced in a statement that they have a younger half sister through their father named Aydan Nix. They shared that they connected with Nix in late 2023. Nix was welcomed by her mother, Terri Hatfield Dull, after a brief relationship with Mohamed that came after his divorce from Yolanda. Hadid and her siblings were raised on a ranch in Santa Barbara, California. The family moved to Beverly Hills after ten years. Hadid’s childhood home was destroyed in January 2025 due to the series of wildfires in Southern California.

As a teenager, Hadid was an equestrian and dreamed of competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics, although she competed in equitation, which is not an Olympic discipline. She was diagnosed, along with her mother and brother, with chronic Lyme disease in 2012. During her high school years, Hadid experienced difficulties with inattention and was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. She was prescribed Adderall, but subsequently developed anorexia as a result of the appetite suppressant.

Kianna Underwood, the former child actress best known for her role on Nickelodeon’s sketch series All That, has died at the age of 33 following a hit and run incident in New York. Her family confirmed the news in a social media post, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans and former viewers who grew up watching her on screen.

According to police, officers responded to reports shortly before 7am of a pedestrian being struck by a grey vehicle at the intersection of Pitkin Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard in Brooklyn. Authorities said the victim suffered severe trauma to her head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. The driver left the scene and no arrests have been made so far, with the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continuing to investigate the incident.

Underwood rose to prominence as part of the tenth season of All That, appearing on the long running Nickelodeon series during 2004 and 2005. The show had previously launched the careers of major stars including Amanda Bynes and Kenan Thompson, and Underwood’s time on the programme made her a familiar face to a generation of young viewers.

Beyond All That, Underwood built a varied career across television, film and theatre. She lent her voice to the animated series Little Bill, which aired between 1999 and 2004 and featured an ensemble cast including Phylicia Rashad, Gregory Hines, Tyler James Williams and Ruby Dee. She also appeared in the 1999 film The 24 Hour Woman alongside Rosie Perez and Patti LuPone, and voiced a character in the 2001 television movie Santa, Baby! with Patti LaBelle, Vanessa Williams and Eartha Kitt. In addition, Underwood was cast in the original national tour of the musical Hairspray, further showcasing her range as a performer.

News of her death has sparked widespread reaction online. Fans have shared clips, photos and memories from her Nickelodeon years, with many expressing shock at the sudden loss. Messages of condolence have flooded comment sections, while posts remembering her talent and early promise have circulated widely across social media platforms. Several viewers described how All That shaped their childhoods and credited Underwood as part of that shared experience.

As tributes continue to grow, questions remain around the circumstances of the crash and the search for the driver involved. For many, however, the focus has been on remembering Underwood’s contributions to children’s television and the mark she left on pop culture during her early career. Her death has resonated deeply with fans who remember her not only as a performer, but as part of a formative era in Nickelodeon history.

Megan Fox, Machine Gun Kelly confirm split | The Express Tribune

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, also known as Colson Baker, are no longer romantically involved, a source confirmed to PEOPLE. The pair, who welcomed their daughter Saga Blade in March 2025, have shifted their focus entirely to co-parenting.

“Whatever they had romantically is done,” the insider said. “Their relationship at this point is just about co-parenting. Megan is focused on her kids and the baby and just getting settled into this new chapter. That’s genuinely her priority.”

Fox, 39, shares three sons, Noah, 13, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 9, with her ex-husband Brian Austin Green. MGK, 35, is also dad to 16-year-old daughter Casie with ex Emma Cannon. Despite the end of their romantic relationship, sources say the couple maintains a strong family dynamic. “Things are great now. He’s amazing with the baby and she very much enjoys spending time with him,” the source added.

In October 2025, the two were seen spending time together and acting like a couple, though nothing was official. The birth of Saga reportedly brought them closer, allowing them to prioritise their child while maintaining separate homes.

While Fox is not currently in a romantic relationship, the source notes she remains open to the possibility in the future. “If something came along naturally and felt right, she’d be open to it. She’s just not thinking about it or chasing anything,” the insider said.

Representatives for both Fox and Kelly did not respond to requests for comment. The former couple’s focus now remains firmly on creating a stable and loving environment for their daughter Saga and their blended families.

Fox began her training in dance and drama at age five, in Kingston, Tennessee. She attended a dance class at the community center there and was involved in Kingston Elementary School’s chorus and the Kingston Clippers swim team. At age 10, after moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, Fox continued her training. When she was 13 years old, Fox began modeling after winning several awards at the 1999 American Modeling and Talent Convention in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Fox attended high school at Morningside Academy in Port St. Lucie until her junior year when she attended St. Lucie West Centennial High School. When she was 17, she tested out of school via correspondence to move to Los Angeles, California.

Machine Gun Kelly released four mixtapes from 2007 to 2010 before he signed with Sean Combs’ Bad Boy Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, in 2011. His debut studio album, Lace Up (2012), peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200 and was led by the single “Wild Boy” (featuring Waka Flocka Flame), which marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and received triple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His second and third albums, General Admission (2015) and Bloom (2017), were both met with critical praise and similar commercial success; the latter was supported by the single “Bad Things” (with Camila Cabello), which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

Documentary film on eminent actor, director and broadcaster Zia Mohyeddin to be screened on January 30

Zia Mohyeddin. Photo: file

KARACHI:

The premiere of the documentary film, ‘Rang Hai Dil Ka Mere’, made on Pakistan’s eminent actor, director, broadcaster, and the owner of a unique voice and diction, Zia Mohyeddin, was held at a cinema in the city. The film, completed after nearly 15 years of tireless effort, covers Zia Mohyeddin’s higher education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in the United Kingdom, his role in the famous 1960s film, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, his celebrated PTV show, the ‘Zia Mohyeddin Show’, and his many years of service as the head of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA).

The 100-minute documentary, ‘Rang Hai Dil Ka Mere’, will be screened on January 30 in selected cinemas in Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore.

The film was recorded at NAPA, Karachi and various locations in Karachi and Lahore, while the editing process alone took nearly two years.

The premiere ceremony of ‘Rang Hai Dil Ka Mere’, which encompasses the artistic services and personal life of the late renowned actor, broadcaster, and director Zia Mohyeddin, was held at the well-known Nueplex Cinema in Defence Phase 8. A large number of admirers of Urdu literature and fine arts attended the event. Credit for creating this unique film—unprecedented in Pakistan—goes to its director, Umar Riaz. While studying drama in the United States, he decided to pay tribute to this multifaceted Pakistani personality in a distinctive manner.

Before fully realizing this idea, Umar Riaz made a short video of Zia Mohyeddin’s recitation and took it to his academy in the United States. Despite not knowing Urdu, the English instructors there were deeply captivated by Zia Mohyeddin’s recitation, which encouraged him to expand the short video into a full-length documentary. Work on the film began during Zia Mohyeddin’s lifetime. Although thorough research and filming took considerable time, the final version of the film stands as a unique experiment of its kind.

Speaking to Express News, director Umar Riaz said that before beginning production, each frame of the film was envisioned conceptually from multiple angles. Extensive research was conducted on Zia Mohyeddin’s long list of artistic contributions. The film highlights not only his work in Hollywood and Britain, but also his television career in Pakistan and, in particular, his enduring association with the National Academy of Performing Arts, where he remained active until the end of his life.

According to Umar Riaz, much of his inspiration for making the film came from watching Zia Mohyeddin’s recitations of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry and, at times, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib’s letters. These were occasions when audiences would arrive well before the scheduled time, often resulting in a shortage of seating. The rapt attention with which people listened to Zia Mohyeddin’s recitation was a unique experience for him.

It cannot be claimed that the documentary presents Zia Mohyeddin’s entire body of work, as time constraints made it impossible to depict everything. However, it can be said that an effort was made to ‘contain an ocean in a small vessel’. The complete production took 15 years, with approximately two years devoted to editing.

The film shows that when Zia Mohyeddin returned to Pakistan after his role in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, a large number of fans were present at the airport to welcome him. He was among the first Pakistani actors to appear in an expensive Hollywood film, playing the role of an Arab Tafas in 1962. Despite limited screen time, his impactful performance established his talent, and he came to be counted among the pioneering Pakistani actors to appear in a major international production.

According to Zia Mohyeddin’s wife, Azra, during the first ten years of the film’s development, most consultations were held directly with Zia Mohyeddin himself. Although he was able to see only a portion of the filmed material, much was conveyed in that limited duration. She is confident that Umar Riaz’s hard work will not go to waste, as the film is the result of long and dedicated effort.

Renowned intellectual and cultural thinker Javed Jabbar stated that the manner in which this documentary has been woven together gives it a unique and outstanding dimension—an experiment never before attempted in Pakistan. He added that documentary films, often referred to as ‘dast?vezi’ films in Pakistan, have never been given the status they deserve. There is a common misconception that documentaries are limited in scope or confined to specific subjects, which is entirely incorrect. Through such films, a perspective can be effectively conveyed, as director Umar Riaz has done masterfully in ‘Rang Hai Dil Ka Mere’. This experiment possesses a distinct and remarkable quality.

The film also includes reflections from Zia Mohyeddin’s two former wives as well as from the daughters of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Conversations by Syeda Arifa Zahra and Daud Rahbar about Zia Mohyeddin are prominently featured, shedding light on habits and principles of his that are not widely known to the public.

At the end of the documentary, Zia Mohyeddin is shown travelling by car through the streets of Lahore, searching for his house in an upscale area. Years later, the house has changed its appearance entirely. He is seen reminiscing about the 14 jamun (black plum) trees that once stood nearby, most of which have since been cut down. Seeing concrete houses replace greenery in front of his former home, he expresses visible sorrow.

According to the film team, ‘Rang Hai Dil Ka Mere’ will be released on January 30 in selected cinemas in Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore.

Mike Macdonald optimistic Sam Darnold (oblique) plays vs. 49ers

Mike Macdonald optimistic Sam Darnold (oblique) plays vs. 49ers

RENTON, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that he is “really optimistic” Sam Darnold will play Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers despite a new oblique injury, echoing what the Pro Bowl quarterback said a day earlier.

But in his final comments before the Seahawks’ divisional round playoff game against their NFC West rival, Macdonald left open the possibility that the injury could take a turn either before or after the 8 p.m. ET kickoff.

The Seahawks listed Darnold as questionable Thursday after he left practice earlier in the day when he felt something in his left side. He told reporters roughly two hours later that he expects to play.

“Talking about Sam, I heard what he said yesterday to you guys; I see it the same way,” Macdonald told reporters Friday. “We’re listing him as questionable. Really optimistic he’s going to be able to play. Right now we’re going through all the protocol … just out of caution to make sure we’re ready to go. We’ll test it out tomorrow and kind of make the final decision, but again, we’re optimistic he’s going to play.

“If he doesn’t, or at some point he doesn’t, then [Drew Lock is] ready to go, and that’s why Drew’s here. He’s doing a great job.”

The Seahawks held a walk-through Friday, as they typically do the day before a game. Macdonald gave a nonanswer when asked whether Darnold threw during the session. While the coach was speaking to reporters on the sideline of the team’s indoor practice facility, Darnold and Lock were walking through plays on the field with wide receiver Jake Bobo. Darnold was seen making only light, underhanded tosses.

Macdonald was asked whether Darnold was better physically Friday.

“He says he feels better,” Macdonald said. “But you talked to him. He’s confident that he’s going to be able to play. We feel the same way.”

Is there any thought that he could be at all limited Saturday?

“Well, yeah, it’s a possibility,” Macdonald said. “I think right now he’s confident that he’s going to be able to go do his thing at 100 percent. We are too. But with these things, something could change between now and then or something could happen in-game. So we kind of just have to roll with it.”

Lock, a seventh-year veteran with a 10-18 record in 28 career starts, is Darnold’s backup. Jalen Milroe, a rookie third-round pick, is Seattle’s QB3. Milroe has been inactive as a healthy scratch for the past 12 games, though he has continued to suit up as the emergency third quarterback.

Darnold told reporters that he “felt a little something” in the oblique on his left side Thursday while throwing during a routes-on-air period and that he left practice as a precautionary measure. Seattle listed him as a limited participant that day.

“Just didn’t want to push it,” Darnold said. “Wasn’t the day to push it. So that was it. Just came inside, got some rehab, and I feel like I’ll be ready to go for Saturday.”

Darnold was asked what percent of him thinks he might not play Saturday.

“Very low percentage,” he said. “Probably closer to zero.”

Darnold said he has never dealt with an oblique injury and that he will get more treatment between now and game time, adding: “We’ll attack it the next couple days and be ready to go for Saturday.”

Aside from Darnold’s questionable status, the only other Seattle players with game designations are tight end Elijah Arroyo, linebacker Chazz Surratt and tackle Josh Jones, all backups who have been ruled out. Left tackle Charles Cross and safety Coby Bryant will return after missing three and two games, respectively.

Cross was limited Wednesday because of a new knee injury but returned to full participation Thursday.

“Just kind of got tangled up a little bit in practice,” Macdonald said of Cross. “So we’re working through it. He’s good to go. It’s more of a precautionary thing than anything.”

Darnold, signed by the Seahawks in March after they traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, is set to make the second playoff start of his eight-year NFL career. He echoed a sentiment shared earlier this week by Macdonald about not getting lost in the hype of the postseason.

“We’re treating it [as] just another week, another game,” Darnold said. “… We’ve got such great guys in that locker room, mature leaders at every position group. So everyone’s just ready to go, attacking the week, per usual, and getting ready to go up against a really good 49ers team that’s been rolling, and we’re excited to go up against them.”

Darnold and the Seahawks beat the 49ers in Week 18 at Levi’s Stadium to win the NFC West and secure the conference’s top seed. With that win, Seattle finished the regular season 14-3, the same record Darnold posted last year with the Minnesota Vikings on his way to his first career Pro Bowl selection.

He made the Pro Bowl again this year after completing 67.7% of his passes for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns while also committing an NFL-high 20 turnovers.

Darnold lost his playoff debut last January when he was sacked nine times in a wild-card loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He said the Week 18 win over the 49ers felt like a playoff game because of everything that was at stake and how loud the crowd was at Levi’s Stadium.

The Seahawks will have home-field advantage in the rematch.

“Being able to use cadence is going to be huge, and then having our 12s there making noise when they’re on offense is crucial,” Darnold said. “So it’s going to be an awesome atmosphere and something we’re all looking forward to.”

This will be the first playoff game at Lumen Field with fans in the stands since January 2017. The Seahawks’ only other home playoff game since then was at the end of the 2020 COVID-19 season, when they lost in the wild-card round to the Rams in an empty stadium.

“We know Lumen’s going to be rocking,” Darnold said. “It’s an important game. We don’t get it twisted at all. We understand the implications of the game. The playoffs, it’s awesome to be playing in games like this, especially in January. But yeah, we’re treating this week as another week, and we’re excited about it.”

Dave Filoni, who oversaw Pedro Pascal’s ‘The Mandalorian’ named president of ‘Star Wars’ studio Lucasfilm

Dave Filoni was named president of Walt Disney-owned (DIS.N) Lucasfilm on Thursday.

Known as a protégé of “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, he was a creative force behind hit streaming TV series “The Mandalorian.”

According to a statement issued by Disney, current Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will step down from the role this week and work as a full-time producer.

Reuters reported that Filoni, 51, will now steer one of the highest-grossing movie franchises in history as well as live-action and animated TV shows.

Dave Filoni

He will work alongside co-president Lynwen Brennan, who runs the studio’s business affairs and operations.

Disney CEO Bob Iger praised Kennedy’s “leadership, her vision, and her stewardship” of the studio.

The 72-year-old Kennedy, who has run Lucasfilm since Disney bought it in 2012, oversaw three blockbuster sequels to the original “Star Wars” trilogy and the successful spinoff “Rogue One.”

“Solo,” a 2018 film that introduced a new actor as the smuggler made famous by Harrison Ford, flopped in theaters. That prompted concerns that audiences were growing fatigued with the beloved franchise.

“‘Solo’ was a little disappointing to us,” Iger said in 2023. “It gave us pause just to think maybe the cadence was a little too aggressive. And so, we decided to pull back a bit.”

Disney put the “Star Wars” movies on hiatus in 2019 to focus on live-action TV series, including “The Mandalorian” starring Pedro Pascal and introducing the popular character Baby Yoda. The company scrapped planned “Star Wars” films from directors Patty Jenkins and Rian Johnson as Kennedy worked to reset the film strategy.

Filoni, meanwhile, oversaw many popular and acclaimed TV series including “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka.”

Both Kennedy and Filoni worked with Lucas, the creator of the original “Star Wars” film series that debuted in 1977. The franchise, about a group of rebels in a galaxy far, far away, has brought in more than $10.3 billion at global box office receipts, according to Comscore.
