The cricket body is set to replace the Bengal Tigers with Scotland in the tournament

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday criticised what he described as the unfair treatment of Bangladesh in the ongoing dispute over the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, saying no country should be allowed to dictate terms to another in international cricket.
Bangladesh have refused to play their scheduled T20 World Cup matches in India, citing security and political concerns, triggering a standoff with the International Cricket Council (ICC) that has raised questions over their participation in the tournament.
Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said he had raised Pakistan’s concerns directly at ICC forums, urging the world governing body to treat all member nations equally.
“Bangladesh has been treated unfairly,” Naqvi told reporters. “I said the same in the ICC board meeting. You cannot have double standards, where one country is allowed to make decisions at will, while another is denied the same consideration.”
He added that Bangladesh, as a full ICC member, deserved flexibility over venues and should not face exclusion from a global event. “They are a major stakeholder. This kind of injustice should not happen, and Bangladesh should be allowed to play the World Cup in any case,” he said.
The Pakistan minister stressed that the PCB’s final stance would be aligned with the government’s position, particularly amid speculation of a broader regional response. When asked whether Pakistan could also consider a boycott of the T20 World Cup, Naqvi said the decision would rest with the country’s leadership.
“We are waiting for the prime minister to return. Once that happens, a final decision will be taken,” he said.
Naqvi also suggested that the ICC should consider a hybrid model for Bangladesh, similar to the arrangement previously used for Pakistan-India tournaments, where matches are split across neutral venues.
“Bangladesh is the same member as Pakistan,” he said. “If the ICC can apply a hybrid model in one case, then it should do the same for Bangladesh. One country cannot dictate terms to another.”
Pressed on whether Pakistan had contingency plans if the situation escalated further, Naqvi responded cautiously. “Let the decision come first,” he said. “We have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, and even Plan D.”
The comments add to mounting pressure on the ICC as it seeks to protect the integrity of the T20 World Cup in India, while navigating growing diplomatic and political sensitivities involving Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the global cricket calendar.

MELBOURNE:
Novak Djokovic escaped the heat and doused Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3 6-4 7-6(4) at the Australian Open on Saturday to reach the fourth round and add another line in the record book during his bid for a standalone 25th Grand Slam title.
With his 102nd match victory at Melbourne, the evergreen Serb equalled six-times champion Roger Federer’s record at the year’s first major and also became the first player to secure 400 wins at the Grand Slams.
“I feel really good. It’s been a great start,” the 10-times Melbourne Park champion declared.
“Things can change and I’m not getting ahead of myself, because last year I learned a lesson, I got too excited too early in some of the Slams, playing well and getting to the quarter-finals and semi-finals and then getting injured.
“I’m still trying to give these young guys a push for their money. I’m still around and hanging in there. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are playing at a different level.
“But when you enter the court and the ball rolls, you always have a chance … especially on this court. I look forward to a good battle.”
Djokovic opened the evening session on a steamy day in which play continued under the main showcourt roofs and eased to a 5-3 lead before firing a sublime backhand crosscourt winner and celebrating with his arms out to mimic an airplane.
He endured minor turbulence following that point, but had no trouble taking full flight again as he broke in the opening game of the second set when a deflated Van de Zandschulp fired his backhand long.
Djokovic briefly lost his cool while up 4-2, striking a ball that flew close to a ball kid stationed near the net. Though the Serb avoided a code violation, the incident triggered memories of his 2020 U.S. Open default for striking a line judge.
Up two sets, Djokovic had treatment for a blister on his right foot after a tumble in the third and rallied from a break down before holding his nerve in the tiebreak to set up a clash with either 16th seed Jakub Mensik or Ethan Quinn.
“A few points before (I fell) I almost twisted my ankle and wanted to see the physio for my blisters,” Djokovic said.
“Thankfully I managed to have a good fall and protected myself. Things could have been very ugly in that moment.”
Taylor Swift values her personal space, when things get messy
An entertainment expert has claimed that Taylor Swift has changed her phone number after a tense exchange with Blake Lively was exposed.
According to a report by the Independent, private text messages and emails belonging to Blake Lively, including exchanges with her long-time friend Taylor Swift, have been publicly disclosed as part of the actress ongoing legal dispute with actor-director Justin Baldoni.
Amid this, Rob Shuter, citing the insiders, said Taylor Swift has changed her phone number, adding it was all about privacy and control.
The insider tells the expert, “Taylor needed to set boundaries and protect her peace. She’s very private and doesn’t take kindly to people overstepping.”
Another close confidant added, “This wasn’t petty or dramatic — it was about reclaiming control over her life. She had to make sure her friends knew her new number so she could stay connected on her terms.”
The music industry insider explains, “Taylor’s circle is very tight. She values her personal space, and when things get messy, she shuts it down fast. Changing her number was the cleanest way to do that.”
The sources continued the move also signals a larger lesson: “even superstar friendships have boundaries, and Taylor is not afraid to enforce them.”
A friend of Swift has said, “This was a full reset. She’s in charge of who can reach her and when — and that’s how she keeps her sanity in Hollywood.”

Washing machine ownership far higher in Pakistan.
Pakistan also leads India in refrigerator ownership.
India dominates TV ownership, but gap has narrowed.
ISLAMABAD: Despite India’s lead on key macroeconomic measures such as GDP per capita, Pakistani households are more likely to own labour-saving appliances, The News reported on Saturday, citing a new Gallup Pakistan analysis.
According to a “Big Data Analysis” report released by Gallup Pakistan on January 23, 2026, household consumption patterns in Pakistan and India show a marked divergence.
The data found that 57.6% of Pakistani households now own a washing machine — nearly triple India’s 20% ownership rate — indicating a stronger preference in Pakistan for technologies that reduce household labour despite broader economic pressures.
The trend extends to food preservation, where Pakistan maintains a lead with 56.2% of households owning a refrigerator, compared to 50.2% in India. Analysts suggest these figures reflect a strategic choice by Pakistani families to prioritise domestic convenience and long-term assets over other forms of consumer spending.
While India continues to dominate in entertainment- with 66% of its households owning a television compared to Pakistan’s 50.2% – the report notes that this gap has been narrowing since 2019, indicating that Pakistani households are gradually catching up in the entertainment sector as well.
In the realm of transportation, the two neighbours show many more similar patterns. Motorcycle ownership is nearly identical, with 53.4% in Pakistan and 55% in India, highlighting the shared regional necessity of two-wheelers for daily mobility.
Car ownership remains low in both nations, with India holding a marginal lead of 8% against Pakistan’s 6.4%. These findings underscore a critical takeaway: GDP per capita does not always serve as a direct mirror for household welfare.
Factors such as relative pricing, infrastructure, and cultural values play a decisive role in how income is converted into actual living standards.
Ultimately, the Gallup report suggests that while India’s economy may be larger in aggregate terms, Pakistani households appear to be investing more heavily in technologies that improve the immediate quality of domestic life.
By prioritising labour-saving devices, Pakistan is carving out a unique path in household development that offers valuable insights for social and economic policy across South Asia.
The data highlights that living standards are a product of both income and choice, revealing a resilient middle-class aspiration in Pakistan that persists despite the country’s macroeconomic volatility.
Inside long-simmering tension between Victoria Beckham, Nicola Peltz
Nicola Peltz had issues with Victoria Beckham prior to her wedding to Brooklyn Beckham.
“They can’t stand each other and don’t talk,” an insider told Page Six in August 2022. The source further shared that trouble was already “brewing” prior to Nicola and Brooklyn’s April 2022 Florida nuptials.
“The build-up to the wedding was horrendous,” the confidant said at that time.
A source close to the family further claimed that the Transformers actress didn’t want Victoria “to be any part of the planning, and she wouldn’t clue Victoria in on anything. Communication was minimal.”
Recently, Brooklyn shared a statement on social media, making it clear that he doesn’t want to reconcile with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” the eldest son of Beckham family penned on Instagram Stories.
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” the 26-year-old said of his parents.
Brooklyn alleged that his parents “have tried endlessly to ruin my relationship with Nicola before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped.”
“My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour, despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress,” he claimed.

This will be Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s ninth consecutive Union Budget, which will also be India’s 88th Budget since Independence. Here’s all you need to know:
FM Nirmala Sitharaman will present the annual budget on February 1, 2026.
The Budget 2026 will be presented in Parliament on February 1, Sunday, continuing the tradition of unveiling the government’s annual financial plan at the start of February. The Budget lays out how the government plans to raise and spend money in the coming year and is closely tracked by taxpayers, businesses, investors and state governments.
The Union Budget 2026-27 will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This will be her ninth consecutive Union Budget, which will also be India’s 88th Budget since Independence. The Budget will offer crucial signals on taxation, public spending, fiscal discipline and policy priorities at a time when the global economy remains uncertain and domestic growth expectations are closely watched.
What is the Union Budget?
The Union Budget is the government’s annual statement of receipts and expenditures. It details how much money the government expects to earn, through taxes, dividends, borrowings and other sources, and how it plans to spend that money on sectors such as infrastructure, defence, welfare, education and healthcare during the financial year starting April 1, 2026.
Under Article 112 of the Constitution, the Budget must be presented to Parliament every year.
Why is the Budget presented on February 1?
Since 2017, the Union Budget has been presented on February 1 instead of the earlier last working day of February. The shift was made to ensure that ministries and departments have sufficient time to implement Budget announcements from the start of the new financial year on April 1, avoiding delays caused by the earlier timeline.
What are the key components of the Budget?
The Union Budget typically consists of two main parts: the Revenue Budget and the Capital Budget. The Revenue Budget covers the government’s day-to-day expenses and income, including tax collections and subsidies. The Capital Budget deals with long-term expenditure such as infrastructure creation and asset building, as well as capital receipts like borrowings and disinvestment proceeds.
The Budget documents also include details of fiscal deficit, revenue deficit and primary deficit, which are closely tracked indicators of the government’s financial health.
How is the Budget prepared?
The Budget-making process begins several months in advance. Various ministries submit their expenditure estimates and policy demands to the Finance Ministry. Consultations are held with stakeholders including industry bodies, economists, farmers’ groups and social sector representatives. Based on revenue projections and fiscal targets, the Finance Ministry finalises allocations and policy proposals.
Before the Budget is presented, a traditional “Halwa Ceremony” is held, marking the start of the lock-in period during which officials involved in Budget preparation remain isolated to maintain secrecy.
What happens on Budget Day?
On February 1, the Finance Minister presents the Budget speech in the Lok Sabha. The speech outlines major policy measures, tax changes and spending priorities. After the speech, Budget documents are tabled in Parliament and made public.
In the days that follow, Parliament debates the Budget proposals. Ministries seek approval for their expenditure through demands for grants, and the Finance Bill, containing tax proposals, is discussed and passed.
Why does the Union Budget matter to individuals and businesses?
For individuals, the Budget can bring changes in income tax slabs, deductions and exemptions, directly affecting take-home income and savings decisions. For businesses, it signals the government’s stance on corporate taxation, incentives, infrastructure spending and sector-specific support.
Investors closely watch the Budget for cues on fiscal discipline, borrowing plans and capital expenditure, which can influence market sentiment.
Key FAQs
Does the Budget apply immediately?
Most tax changes come into effect from April 1, unless specified otherwise. Some measures may be implemented immediately through notifications.
Can Parliament reject the Budget?
Parliament has the power to discuss and modify Budget proposals. However, outright rejection is rare, as it would imply loss of confidence in the government.
What is the difference between the Economic Survey and the Budget?
The Economic Survey, which will be tabled on January 29, reviews the state of the economy and provides context. The Budget translates policy intent into concrete financial proposals.
As the Union Budget 2026 approaches, attention will be on how the government balances growth support with fiscal prudence, while addressing the concerns of taxpayers, industry and states in a challenging global environment.
