Cruz Beckham’s girlfriend shares pointed message for Victoria amid Brooklyn feud

Cruz Beckham’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30, has shared a pointed message for Victoria Beckham amid the matriarch’s feud with Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz.

Jackie, who’s been dating Cruz, 20, since 2024, was there to support Victoria alongside the Beckham clan when the fashion designer was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in Paris on Monday.

She later took to Instagram Stories to share a tribute for Victoria, writing, “Your drive, creativity, resilience but most importantly kindness and respect towards anyone around you are some of the many reason[s] why you deserve this and more…”

“You life us up constantly and it’s so beautiful to witness your hard work be recognised. We love you!!!”

Jackie’s praise for Victoria comes after Brooklyn claimed that his mom hijacked his and Nicola’s first dance and danced “inappropirately on him,” sending the internet into a frenzy, with people demanding to see the video of the dance.

Brooklyn and Nicola were absent from the ceremony honoring Victoria. The matriarch’s younger kids, Romeo, Cruz and Harper were present, as well as her husband David Beckham. Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull.

The Beckhams have maintained silence over Brooklyn’s lengthy statement against them. The aspiring chef claimed that his parents tried to compel him to sign away the rights to his name, controlled him and put brand Beckham above everything else.

Ryan Seacrest opens up on his ‘American Idol’ comeback

Ryan Seacrest isn’t too concerned with the notion of legacy yet, after 24 years hosting American Idol, as his focus remains on making audiences feel at ease.

Speaking to People magazine, the 51-year-old TV host said that the idea of legacy is something he hasn’t paid much attention to.

“That’s a big question. I haven’t thought about legacy yet,” said Ryan. “In terms of what I hope people expect from me, or get when I’m on any show, is that they feel comfortable watching it. They enjoy it.”

“It doesn’t seem like it’s too difficult. They can have anybody of any age watch the show. People can get together as a family and watch the show,” he continued. “And for me to make them feel comfortable, and as if we’ve known each other for a long time, even if we’ve never met. And if you were a host, that’s the idea.”

Ryan, who made his hosting debut on the long-running singing competition in 2002, said his “energy” comes from “seeing new people every year from all over the country.”

“Many of them, now, have grown up watching the show and waited all their lives for this moment to audition,” he added.

For those unversed, the first episode of season 24 of the American Idol premiered on Monday, January 26, on ABC.

Available for over a year

This week we’re looking at government plans to start sequencing the DNA of every newborn baby in England within the next decade.

Each newborn would undergo whole genome sequencing to assess their risk of hundreds of diseases, under NHS plans.

It promises a revolution in spotting disease early – but are there also risks?

And use of nicotine pouches is rising, especially among young men.

But these little sachets that fit under the top lip aren’t yet regulated – so what do we know about the potential harms?

Finally, as the cold weather continues, James gets a lesson in walking like a penguin to see if it helps avoid trips, slips and falls…

How Ashton Kutcher’s new show fails to satirize Hollywood surgery trends

How Ashton Kutcher’s new show fails to satirize Hollywood surgery trends

In the era of Ozempic, Botox and normalized surgical procedures, what magical potion will be next? That question is answered in Ryan Murphy’s new FX/Hulu body horror series The Beauty, about an experimental jab that promises complete aesthetic perfection. And it might have just predicted a dystopian future. Based on a comic book of the same name, the series follows two FBI agents as they investigate the spread of a mysterious sexually transmitted contagion that’s making people either A) explode into pieces, leaving behind only an oozing pool of guts or B) regenerate into a ludicrously hotter version of themselves.

When injected with The Beauty, patients emerge with chiseled jawlines, collagen-filled cheekbones, large sparkly eyes, perky bottoms and ripped abs; an archetype of Western beauty standards. There’s Jeremy (played by Jaquel Spivey and later Jeremy Pope), an isolated, depressed incel, who turns to surgery in his quest to look like a Chad and is given the drug instead. His bones crack. Steam rises from his skin. But he survives, hatching into an unrecognizable new man.

For all intents and purposes, this show is a chilling satire on the beauty industry and the lengths we will go to achieve perfection. There is plenty to be enjoyed and believed: Isabella Rosselini as the eccentrically dressed wife to Ashton Kutcher’s tech mogul, Anthony Ramos as a one-eyed villain, plus a brilliant episode about a clandestine network of billionaires who have exclusive first access to the drug. It’s a real shame, though, that in trying to criticize modern beauty standards, The Beauty relies on us ignoring the sheer irony of its guest star casting. Representing the results of the beautifying drug are none other than real-life supermodel Bella Hadid and heiress Nicola Peltz Beckham (talk about timing?). Hadid opens the series strutting down a catwalk in Paris, before becoming possessed by the side effects of The Beauty and disintegrating. Meanwhile, without giving too much away, Peltz crops up at the end of the series as a yassified – much younger and conventionally hotter – version of another character post-injection, looking as if she’s been plucked from one of her latest Instagram pictures.

Now, I don’t know about you, but intentionally casting some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood in a show satirizing the very standard of beauty they represent sends some very mixed messages. The Beauty tells its audience to be cautious of what the beauty industry is selling, and of the rich and powerful people who exploit normal people (particularly young girls) who will do almost anything to achieve that hegemonic Instagram face. And while I don’t have anything against Peltz and Hadid — and both do a great job in the show — there’s no denying that these familiar faces are part of a culture that sets the very standard of how we should look, through Instagram posts to their millions of followers, makeup tutorials and their famous skincare routines. After all, beauty trends begin in Hollywood before the rest of us try to catch up. If The Beauty is suggesting that the trending aesthetic dogma — poisonous ideals that make many feel unworthy – are simply unattainable, then how does this shiny guest cast serve the entire point of the show?

Some moments in The Beauty do feel real, eerily so. Later on in the series, high schoolers scramble to get their hands on the drug. These boys and girls might be young, but they’ve already been told they’re not good enough. In real life, it’s not so far from the truth: teenage girls as young as 16 are getting lip fillers and more. There is also a particularly omnipresent injectable that reached the mass market only recently; restaurants have introduced smaller dishes aimed at people with reduced appetites on weight loss drugs, Mounjaro or Wegovy.

Given how things are panning out in real-life, it’s not unfathomable that people would spend their life savings on a one-off injection that completely transforms their appearance. This series should be a forewarning. But when Peltz’s character delivers her passionate monologue about resisting beauty standards, I can’t help but wonder if The Beauty was playing me all along.

King Charles prepares new ‘secret weapon’ for monarchy

King Charles, ever since his ascension to the throne, faced some troublesome circumstances as he handled the reins of the monarchy even with his exceptionally long waiting period for the position.

There had been the growing anti-monarchy protests gaining momentum, the ongoing family drama between the royals and the Sussexes, and the slimmed down roster for royal duties. Charles was only beginning to finally implement his plans when the cancer announcement came just two years into his reign.

At that time, the king had relied on his trusted senior working royals, previously underrated but dutifully loyal, which included the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. Among them, Duchess Sophie emerged as a rising star, taking on crucial diplomatic mission, including visit to war-torn Ukraine.

She was quickly dubbed as the ‘secret weapon’ for King Charles, as she garnered praise for her work from the public and media alike. With the exit of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Firm had been concerned about not having enough young royal members to relate with the youth.

While Prince William and Kate Middleton hold a popularity with the youth, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been entrusted with an important task to have more ‘secret weapons’ like Duchess Sophie.

One young royal has already shown clear signs of excellence and royal expert Chris Riches believes she can be “a natural, compassionate leader”.

He believes that “age is no barrier to competency” highlighting Princess Charlotte is destined for greatness. The expert noted that William and Kate have “a hands-on approach, and this is certainly paying off with the blossoming-in-confidence Charlotte”, adding that she is unlikely to become the “bitter spare” like Prince Harry.

Royal historian and member of the advisory board of the Institute for the Study of the Crown in Canada, Justin Vovk, said, “We are seeing signs of Charlotte becoming more independent, but also reminders that she is still just supposed to be a normal 10-year-old girl.”

Charlotte has shown signs indicating that she is completely at ease while handling crowds and the attention, all the while maintaining the royal protocols.

India needs USD 145 billion in annual investments to meet energy transition goals: Report

India needs USD 145 billion in annual investments to meet energy transition goals: Report

New Delhi: India’s energy sector must mobilise about USD 145 billion a year to bridge the gap between its robust economic expansion and ambitious net‑zero pathways, with the investments concentrated in power generation, storage and urgent grid modernisation, a report said on Tuesday.

The report from energy and natural resources data analytics firm, Wood Mackenzie, said India remains on track to reach its 1.5 billion tonnes coal production target by 2030 with increasing emphasis on coal gasification to diversify the energy mix, the report said.

The data analytics firm forecasted natural gas demand to double from 72 billion cubic metres in 2024 to over 140 billion cubic metres by 2050, with industry accounting for over two‑thirds of demand through 2030 and above 55 per cent until 2050, the report said.

Though the report cited many gaps between India’s growth and climate, it maintained that “India is uniquely positioned to become one of the world’s most credible, large-scale alternatives to the Chinese solar and battery supply chain.”

As global markets seek to diversify their procurement, India’s maturing manufacturers ring ecosystem offers a distinct competitive edge, the report said.

Joshua Ngu, Vice Chairman, Asia Pacific at Wood Mackenzie, urged that India must de-risk its immediate energy security while simultaneously building the low-carbon architecture required to support a top-tier global economy.

“The USD 1.5 trillion investment between 2026 and 2035 for energy transition is not just about adding megawatts; it is about the wires,” said Rashika Gupta, Vice President, Power and Renewables Research at Wood Mackenzie.

Success hinges on the pace of market reforms, specifically the Electricity Amendment Bill to improve distribution competition and provide the transparent investment signals needed to unlock private capital for grid modernisation, Gupta added.

Despite the acceleration of the energy transition, the firm noted that hydrocarbon fuels remain fundamental to near-term stability.

The firm forecasted that India’s crude oil import reliance could reach 87 per cent by 2035 and urged revitalisation of the upstream sector and attract international oil companies to Indian exploration and production (E&P).

From RERA to Carpet Area; 6 essential Real Estate terms every homebuyer in India must know

Carpet area is among the commonly used or heard words in the world of real estate. Many often get confused whether it’s the actual area of the home or something else. So according to the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA), carpet area is the net usable floor area inside the apartment. It is the space where you can actually lay a carpet. Carpet Area includes living area, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. But it does not include balconies, terraces, walls, and common areas such as staircases or lifts. It is important to know the property’s carpet area because under RERA, builders are needed to sell property based on carpet area, not super built-up area.

Napoli staring at Champions League elimination | The Express Tribune

LONDON:

Napoli are on the brink of being eliminated from the Champions League as the troubled Italian club face Chelsea on Wednesday racked by a deep injury crisis and a faltering Serie A title defence.

Sat just inside the elimination zone on only eight points from seven matches after last week’s miserable 1-1 draw at FC Copenhagen, Napoli must beat Chelsea to scrape a place in next month’s play-offs.

That will be no easy task with the Blues, Antonio Conte’s former club, needing a win to stay in the top eight and bag direct qualification for the last 16.

And Napoli come into the game still stinging from a 3-0 defeat at Juventus which left the Italian champions nine points behind current Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

Sunday’s loss in Turin was a big slap in the face for Napoli and Juve icon Conte, who was full of praise for his players who have had to dig deep in the face of a host injuries.

“Before today the last match we’d lost was against Udinese (on December 14). We even won the Italian Super Cup in an emergency, an emergency which has got even worse,” Conte told DAZN on Sunday.

“The boys need big support from the fans… We’re going through a difficult period and I expect the fans to get behind the team.”

Conte’s bid to become the first Napoli coach to win back-to-back Serie A titles has been hampered by physical problems in his squad right from the start of the season.

It started with Romelu Lukaku suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season which kept him out of action until the 79th minute of Sunday’s loss.

High seas

Lukaku replaced academy graduate Antonio Vergara who played in place of Italy international Matteo Politano, while new signing Giovane made his debut as a substitute, with Conte later saying he hadn’t even seen him train.

Conte has also lost giant goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to a hamstring knock while winger David Neres flew to London for ankle surgery on Monday which will likely keep the Brazilian out until April.

Kevin De Bruyne has been out since October and won’t be back until the Spring after surgery on his right hamstring, while another key midfielder in Andre-Frank Anguissa was supposed to be back on Sunday from another hamstring injury but was left out due to back problems.

“We know that we’re navigating in open waters with very high waves but we’re not getting off the boat,” said Conte.

“We’re still here, made stronger by the fact that we want to keep fighting with all our might even with the absurd situation that we’re in.

“These boys are serious, they’re giving everything and I see what they’re doing, what they have to put up with, what they’re risking, because let’s be clear here, they’re jeopardising their physical health.

“They’re playing every three days, not training, and the same players have to play high-intensity football because we don’t have any chance to rotate.”

The only good news for Conte is the return of Lukaku who has replaced De Bruyne in Napoli’s European squad, giving the Belgium striker the chance to get back at Chelsea where he failed so miserably four years ago.

Last season 11 points was enough to avoid elimination so a win will almost certainly get Napoli through and provide some relief to a creaking team.

MELBOURNE:

Alexander Zverev said he was playing without pain for the first time in 12 months after last year’s runner-up crushed young American Learner Tien to blast into the Australian Open semi-finals on Tuesday.

Zverev sent down 24 aces in a 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-1, 7-6 (7/3) victory and faces world number one Carlos Alcaraz or home hope Alex de Minaur for a place in the Melbourne final.

World number three Zverev is desperate to finally win a Grand Slam at age 28, having lost three major finals including being well beaten in last year’s title decider by Jannik Sinner.

The German’s 2025 season fell away after that, winning just one title in an injury-hit campaign and he also struggled with his mental health, taking a one-month break after losing in the first round at Wimbledon.

“The last 10 days I felt healthy, which is very nice, and pain-free, which I haven’t felt in a long time. Probably in 12 months,” he said after dismantling Tien.

“I feel like I’m happy on the court because I am playing pain-free and I’m playing a good level.”

The quarter-final took place under a closed roof at Rod Laver Arena to fend off temperatures forecast to hit 45C outside.

At 29 in the world, the Californian Tien was the lowest-ranked player left in the men’s draw.

He was also the youngest at age 20 and was playing in the biggest match of his life, having never reached the last eight at a major before.

In contrast, Zverev is an experienced campaigner at the deep end of Grand Slams, but has famously never captured one of the four biggest tournaments.

He was also a runner-up at the US Open in 2020 and again at the French Open in 2024.

‘Incredible’

The more experienced man made the better start, breaking Tien for a 4-2 lead on the way to clinching the first set.

Tien, who won his first ATP title in November and is coached by the 1989 French Open champion Michael Chang, went toe-to-toe with Zverev in the second set.

With serve dominating they went to a tiebreak, where Zverev upped the ante to go 5-3 up.

But Tien refused to buckle and defended brilliantly, clawing back and then overhauling the deficit to level the match.

The American had the crowd on his side but Zverev’s serve was unrelenting and he barrelled into a 5-1 lead in the third set.

Zverev romped through the set in 28 minutes as Tien’s unforced error count mounted.

“I don’t think I’ve played anyone who plays that well from the baseline for a very, very long time. I don’t know what (Tien’s coach) Michael Chang has done with him in the off-season, but the way he’s playing it’s incredible.

“Without my 20 aces, or something like that, I probably wouldn’t have won today, so obviously very happy with my serve. And just generally happy to be back in the semis.”

With Chang a vocal presence, Tien regathered in the fourth and had a set point at 6-5, only for Zverev to dig himself out of trouble and force the tiebreak.

With his serve blazing, the German raced through the tiebreak to wrap up victory in just three hours and 10 minutes.

“Without my aces I probably would not have won today,” said Zverev, who only had one double fault, on a match point. “Obviously very happy with my serve.

“Learner off the baseline was playing unbelievable,” he added. “The way he is playing is incredible.”
