Amazon accidentally sends email confirming layoffs

US technology giant Amazon has informed employees of a new round of global layoffs in an email apparently sent in error.

A draft email written by Colleen Aubrey, a senior vice president at Amazon Web Services (AWS), was included as part of a calendar invite sent by an executive assistant to a number of Amazon workers late on Tuesday.

In the email, Aubrey refers to a swathe of employees in the US, Canada and Costa Rica having been laid off as part of an effort to “strengthen the company.”

The message, which has been seen by the BBC, was apparently shared by mistake, as it was quickly cancelled. An Amazon spokesman declined to comment.

The title of the invite was “Send project Dawn email,” an apparent reference to Amazon’s code name for the job cuts.

While the email made clear that layoffs were happening at Amazon, employees had not yet been officially informed.

“This is a continuation of the work we’ve been doing for more than a year to strengthen the company by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy, so that we can move faster for customers,” the email said.

“Changes like this are hard on everyone. These decisions are difficult and made thoughtfully as we position our organization and AWS for future success,” it added.

Amazon announced 14,000 job cuts in late October.

This second round of layoffs had been expected by Amazon employees for weeks, according to a former employee who asked not be identified.

The broad understanding among employees had been that bosses intended to cut a total of around 30,000 roles, added the former employee, who left the company as part of the cuts in October.

The firm was expected to reach that number of job cuts with another major round of layoffs this month, followed by further redundancies until the end of May.

While laid-off workers were invited to reapply for open positions at Amazon, the number of such roles was limited. People who did not move to another role received severance pay based on how long they had worked at the company.

Since 2022, major tech companies like Amazon, Meta, Google, Microsoft and others have slashed their workforces by laying off tens of thousands of people each year.

Across the entire tech industry, an estimated 700,000 people have been laid off over the last four years, according to Layoffs.fyi, which tracks job cuts.

So far this year, Facebook owner Meta has cut more roles, impacting several hundred employees. As has Pinterest, which this week cut around 700 jobs.

Since Amazon founder Jeff Bezos stood down as its chief executive four years ago, his successor Andy Jassy has led the company through several rounds of layoffs in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Jassy has also attempted to bring a more strict work culture to the firm.

In-office work is now mandatory five-days a week, making Amazon one of the only major tech companies to require its employees to be in the office full-time.

Amazon is also focused on reducing costs, even monitoring corporate mobile phone use by AWS employees, according to a report in Business Insider, in an effort to limit a long-standing $50 per month reimbursement.

In an email Jassy sent to employees before the Thanksgiving holiday viewed by the BBC, the CEO said he was thankful for the “challenges at opportunities at work” as “the world is changing at a very rapid rate.”

Jassy called this era at Amazon “a time to rethink everything we’ve ever done.”

Hailey Bieber’s sister, Alaia Baldwin Aronow gets arrested

Hailey Bieber’s sister, Alaia Baldwin Aronow, is facing the possibility of jail time after prosecutors formally filed misdemeanor charges connected to her 2024 arrest in Georgia.

Court documents filed on January 26 show that Georgia prosecutors have charged Aronow with four misdemeanors: simple battery, simple assault, battery and criminal trespass.

The charges stem from an incident that allegedly took place on February 24, 2024, at Club Elan, where prosecutors claim Aronow caused physical harm to multiple people and refused to leave the venue when asked.

According to the filing, Aronow is accused of intentionally striking a person identified as Jacinto Hills “in the [private area].”

Prosecutors further allege that she threw an [inappropriate object] at another individual, an act they classified as simple assault.

The documents also state that Aronow allegedly pulled hair from the scalp of a person named Ian O’Neill during the confrontation.

The incident reportedly unfolded inside Club Elan, where staff members said Aronow refused to exit the premises despite being instructed to do so.

While the case saw little movement for more than a year, an arraignment has now been scheduled for April 23. Records suggest Aronow may have previously entered a pretrial diversion program, though the newly filed charges have pushed the case forward.

Aronow, who is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and Kennya Baldwin, was arrested the night of the incident.

According to a police report, the bar owner contacted law enforcement after reporting that a woman was attacking staff and would not leave. When officers arrived, employees identified Aronow as the person involved.

Staff members told police that the situation escalated after Aronow was told she could not use an employee-only bathroom.

According to the bartender’s account, Aronow said she needed time “to change her “[personal object]” and was briefly allowed to remain. When the bartender later returned, she claimed Aronow “removed her [personal object] and threw it” at her.

Security footage was cited in the police report, which stated, “Aronow can be seen fighting and resisting the entire way outside. The video clearly shows Ms. Aronow grabbing and pulling Mr. O’Neill’s hair and her hitting Mr. Hills.”

The report added, “This is when security stepped in and removed the female from the club.”

Aronow reportedly told police she was acting in self-defense and claimed she was “forcefully removed from the club.”

According to the report, she initially denied throwing anything but later admitted that she did.

When questioned about pulling hair and striking one of the alleged victims, officers wrote that she “attempted to justify her action by stating she was defending herself.”

With the charges now officially filed, Aronow could face penalties that include possible jail time if convicted. The case is set to continue later this year as she prepares to appear in court for her arraignment.

Steelers usher in new coaching era; Mike McCarthy-Aaron Rodgers reunion talk builds

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Earlier this month, the Pittsburgh Steelers entered a head coaching search for just the third time since hiring Chuck Noll in 1969.

On Jan. 13, Mike Tomlin announced he would step down after 19 seasons as the franchise’s head coach.

During the search for their next head coach, the Steelers interviewed a number of candidates, many of them young assistants in the vein of Noll, Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher, all of whom arrived in Pittsburgh as relative unknowns and left with Super Bowl rings and Hall of Fame-worthy resumes.

During an introductory press conference with the Steelers that got emotional at times, McCarthy, a Pittsburgh native, beamed with pride about his third head coaching opportunity.

“I thought I’d at least be able to get started,” the new Steelers head coach said, trying unsuccessfully to choke back his emotions while looking out at members of the McCarthy family inside Acrisure Stadium.

McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers spent several years together when both were part of the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy coached the Packers to a 125-77-2 record from 2006-18. Rodgers left the Packers after the 2022 season. He spent two seasons with the New York Jets before signing a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason.

While Rodgers had a relatively productive first season with the Steelers, the 42-year-old quarterback is undoubtedly much closer to the sunset of his storied career than the onset. It is unclear whether Rodgers will return to the Steelers in 2026, pursue an opportunity with another team or simply step away from the game.

The possibility of a reunion between Rodgers and McCarthy was brought up during Tuesday’s news conference. McCarthy expressed optimism about potentially getting another shot at coaching Rodgers.

“Definitely, I don’t see why you wouldn’t,” McCarthy replied to reporters’ questions about possibly working with the four-time MVP.

In 2022, ahead of Dallas Cowboys coach McCarthy’s return to Lambeau Field, Rodgers said the passage of time had given him a greater appreciation of the seasons he spent with his former coach.

“It’s probably normal in any relationship you have,” Rodgers said at the time. “When you’re able to take time away, and you have that separation, it’s natural to look back and have a greater sense of appreciation and gratitude and thankfulness for that time.”

McCarthy oversaw the Packers’ 2010 season when the franchise won its lone Super Bowl title during Rodgers’ career, but the relationship between the quarterback and coach eventually soured. McCarthy was fired late in the 2018 season.

Neither McCarthy nor his hometown Steelers have been back to the big game since. He knows the clock is ticking.

“It’s time to bring another championship back to this great city,” McCarthy said Tuesday.

Ted Cruz urges US to arm Iranian protesters as militias threaten ‘total war’ against America

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Sen. Ted Cruz called for the U.S. to arm Iranian protesters Tuesday as unrest continues inside the nation and Iran-backed militias issued threats against Washington.

“We should be arming the protesters in Iran. NOW,” Cruz wrote in a post on X.

“For the Iranian people to overthrow the Ayatollah — a tyrant who routinely chants ‘death to America’ — would make America much, much safer,” the Texas Republican added.

Cruz was responding to another post from Tehran Bureau, which cited a source inside Iran detailing what was described as a rapidly deteriorating situation on the ground as security forces continued to crack down on demonstrations.

IRAN WILL RETALIATE ‘WITH EVERYTHING WE HAVE’ IF US ATTACKS, SENIOR DIPLOMAT WARNS

“From trusted source in Tehran: Tell all of your friends [abroad] — everyone you know: there is absolutely nothing else we can do here inside Iran,” the post read.

“They are killing people in such ways, they’ve descended upon people so brutally, they’re attacking us in such ways… We’ve lost so many lives that no one dares go out anymore. They shoot directly with bullets. They kill outright. And even after killing, they come and behead you, and do countless other violent things to you,” it continued.

“Going out into the streets is literally suicide. It’s not about bravery anymore. It’s madness. You go out and they shoot you point-blank. They don’t even ask why you came. They just kill you,” the post continued. “There is absolutely no way for us to gather unless we had weapons, unless we were armed like them. Otherwise they have weapons everywhere.”

According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, activist groups estimate that more than 6,000 people have been killed in Iran, with additional cases still under review.

The protests began in late December amid widespread anger over economic hardship, political repression and corruption, according to reports.

Cruz’s post came after armed militias aligned with Iran warned the U.S. they would retaliate against any American attack on the Islamic Republic, as the Trump administration moved forces into the region.

Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq said it was prepared for “total war” if the U.S. attacked Iran, according to The Associated Press.

Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi, the group’s leader, said the “enemies” of the Islamic Republic would face “the bitterest forms of death.”

Stephen Colbert is getting honest about the end of The Late Show, which is only a few months away.

During the upcoming episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Colbert revealed his emotions as his own late-night talk show is slated to end in four months.

“It feels real now,” Colbert told Seth Meyers, in a teaser clip posted on the show’s Instagram account. “It did not feel… I mean, I know it was real, but now, there’s four months left.”

He went on to explain to Meyers that he enjoys doing the show with the staffer on his program as some coworkers have been linked with him since the beginning of his career.

“Listen, you can do comedy in a lot of different places, [but] there’s no place like the Ed Sullivan Theater,” Colbert said, referring to the set where his show is filmed. “But it’s really the people. That’s really what I care about. That’s really what I’m going to miss more than anything.”

As Deadline reported, the final show of the late-night talk show will air on Thursday, May 21.

He announced the show’s end news during a July 17 episode.

Kristen Stewart gets honest about staying in US after Trump tariff plans

Kristen Stewart admitted she might leave the United States soon.

In a recent chat with The Times, the actor-director opened up about filming in her home country after recent tariff plans on the film industry by Donald Trump.

She shared that she shot her new film, The Chronology of Water, in Latvia, as it “would have been impossible to do in the [U.S.]” as “reality is breaking completely under [President Donald] Trump.”

Kristen admitted that she is terrified by the tariffs that are yet to be imposed.

However, she considered moving out to another country.

“But we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in.”

Kristen resides in Los Angeles and New York. When asked about continuing to live in the US, the actress replied, “Probably not.”

“I can’t work freely there. But I don’t want to give up completely,” she added. “I’d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people.”

“It’s how I relate to the world. I’m always going, ‘How are we going to make that into a movie?’ “

As reported by The New York Post, Trump said, “I’m going to be putting tariffs on movies from outside of the country — if they’re made in Canada, if they’re made in all these places, because Los Angeles has lost the movie industry.”

Intrusive thoughts: 'What if I just started shouting right now?'

Research suggests most of us will have unsettling scenarios flash into our mind from time to time

Have you ever sat in a boring meeting and wondered: “What if I just started shouting?” Or you’re driving along and you think: “What if I crash?”

These unsettling scenarios are known as “intrusive thoughts” which the majority of us will experience from time to time and feel able to shrug off.

But for some they can become overwhelming obsessions which lead to compulsive behaviours.

When Dr Nina Higson-Sweeney was a child, she was convinced that unless she only had “good” thoughts the whole way home from school, her family would be harmed.

“If I had an intrusive thought, I’d restart the walk from the bus stop,” she says. “I was genuinely terrified that if I didn’t redo it and something happened, it would be my fault”.

Nina was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) aged 10 and now works as a psychology researcher at the University of Oxford where she specialises in child and adolescent mental health.

Nina still lives with OCD but has learned how to manage it better

“Obsessions are intrusive and unwanted thoughts, feelings and sensations while compulsions are repeated, ritualised acts that are done to neutralise or alleviate the anxiety caused by the obsessions,” Nina tells the BBC’s Complex podcast.

Around 1- 4% of the population is thought to live with OCD but the number of 16-24 year olds in England reporting symptoms of it has more than tripled in a decade.

The condition is now the second-most widespread mental health disorder for young adults, a major NHS England survey suggests.

Intrusive thoughts can be extremely distressing and often focus on topics that feel completely at odds with a person’s values or identity.

“You might have thoughts about harm coming to loved ones,” says Nina.

“It could be questioning one’s sexual attraction, thinking are you homosexual? Are you heterosexual? It can even be as extreme as worrying are you a paedophile?

“A really common one is intrusive thoughts about contamination and worries about getting ill or spreading sickness,” she says.

OCD most commonly begins in puberty or early adolescence, but some people are diagnosed later in life as they can “go years masking or covering up the distress,” she says.

Research suggests there may be a genetic component to developing OCD as well as links to early life stress such as bullying, bereavement or family breakdown, she says.

Chartered psychologist Kimberley Wilson says almost everyone experiences intrusive thoughts at some point.

“Research suggests around 80% of us have these thoughts,” she explains.

For most people, those thoughts pass quickly.

“We can look at them, think they’re weird, and put them aside,” she says.

If you’re unable to dismiss the thoughts, that’s when you may need to seek help, she suggests.

“OCD-related thoughts don’t pass on, they take up residence and they’re never positive thoughts – they’re aggressive, hostile and not easy to deal with. That’s when it becomes all-consuming and leads to compulsions.”

Signs of compulsions can be mental, like counting to a certain number, or visible, such as repeatedly checking car tyres even when you know they’re fine.

How to manage OCD

In these cases “a professional or specialist can work out what’s best for you,” says Nina.

Alongside professional help, Nina says there are techniques people can use day-to-day to reduce distress.

One is learning to label thoughts. “Recognising ‘I’m having an intrusive thought’ creates distance and remind me that it’s not me,” she explains.

Some people also find it helpful to visualise OCD as something separate.

“Drawing what OCD looks like can help – there’s me and there’s OCD, and those are two different things.”

Self-care also matters. “Eating well, resting and physical activity can help as my OCD is always worse when I’m stressed and not looking after myself,” she says.

Today, Nina still lives with OCD but has learned how to manage it.

“I’ve never got over OCD, but I can function with it. I now have mild intrusive thoughts and a lot of insight into how I manage it. When I’m stressed though they’re harder to dismiss and can still lead to compulsions.”

Khloe, Kim Kardashian get real about airing family drama: ‘Good, put it on’

Kardashian sisters, Khloe and Kim, recently opened up about what it’s like to have their lives filmed for years.

During Kim’s special appearance on Khloe’s podcast Khloé in Wonder Land, the duo talked about some wild moments caught on camera.

“Think about having literally every single day of your life filmed for like 15 years, and it’s just there,” Khloe said. “I don’t even want to know what’s on the editing floor.”

While looking back at their fighting scene which they initially worried would air later, became fans favorite.

While recalling an altercation between her and Kim during a season 7 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Khloe recalled Kim accused her of being unsupportive and jealous over a Bentley and hit her with a bag.

Kim shared that not everyone was open about letting go of their family drama on TV screens, saying mom Kris Jenner and sister Kourtney Kardashian “pull back a lot.”

“I’m just like, ‘Why?’ ” Kim said, while Khloé added, “Let it go!”

Kim also recalled Kourtney warning her about a comment involving their Italy weddings.

“Kourtney, when I said, ‘I got married in Italy, she got married in Italy,’ ” Kim recalled. “When I said that whole thing, she’s like, ‘You look like a lunatic. You have to take this out. You look insane.’ I go, ‘Perfect. Put it on. It’s making it.’ She was like, ‘No, no, I’m telling you, sister to sister, you look crazy.’ And I was like, ‘Good. I love it.’ ”

Kim added, “I can really step back and look from a producer’s eye.”

Broncos fire OC Joe Lombardi after AFC title game loss

Broncos fire OC Joe Lombardi after AFC title game loss

The Denver Broncos fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi on Tuesday, just two days after head coach Sean Payton said the team’s offense “didn’t do enough” to earn a Super Bowl trip.

Wide receivers coach Keary Colbert and cornerbacks coach Addison Lynch also were fired.

“I want to thank these coaches for playing an important role in elevating our program over the last three seasons,” Payton said in a prepared statement. “I’ve been fortunate to work with Joe Lombardi for 15 years and am particularly grateful for his many contributions to our success as offensive coordinator. We sincerely appreciate Joe, Keary and Addison’s hard work and wish them all the best in the future.”

With backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the lineup for an injured Bo Nix, the Broncos gained just 32 yards in the second half of Sunday’s 10-7 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, had only one first down after halftime and didn’t have a possession in the third or fourth quarters longer than 17 yards.

After the loss, Payton was asked what he would be most critical of in the aftermath, and he said he would start with himself, adding: “I think the big thing, that first half, momentum and field position didn’t yield what it needed to yield, we needed more than that. It’ll start there.”

Lombardi spent 12 years, over two different stints, on Payton’s staff with the New Orleans Saints and had been the Broncos’ offensive coordinator since Payton was hired in 2023. Payton, however, is the team’s playcaller on game days. As the Broncos’ offensive coordinator, Lombardi was in the coaches’ booth and among those on the headset with Payton during games, but Payton was the voice in Nix’s helmet.

The Broncos sported one of the league’s best defenses this season — No. 1 in sacks and in the red zone in the regular season, second on third down and third in scoring defense and best in yards surrendered per play overall (4.46). Fueled by that defense, the Broncos also went 11-2 in one-score games in the regular season, the most one-score wins in NFL history, before winning another one-score game, in overtime, over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round.

But Payton had expressed his frustrations about the offense at various times this season, including Sunday night following the loss to the Patriots when the Broncos, as the snow swirled in the second half, made it into Patriots territory just once after halftime only to have a potential tying field goal blocked.

The Broncos were 14th in the regular season in scoring — 23.6 points per game — 10th in offensive EPA and 12th in QBR, but they finished 29th in three-and-outs (25% of drives). In his end-of-season news conference Tuesday, Payton expressed particular frustration with the team’s run game and said he had already met Monday with run game coordinator/assistant head coach Zach Strief, who also coaches the offensive line, about a plan for improvement.

“That’ll be an important study and with urgency,” Payton said in Denver. “I want to play from the gun, but I also will always want to play with a two-back or multiple-tight end mindset [and] have that flexibility. … I think it’s one of the key things that we have to do this offseason.”

J.K. Dobbins suffered what turned out to be a season-ending foot injury in the Broncos’ Nov. 6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, yet he still finished as the team’s leading rusher — by 232 yards — and had the team’s most runs of 10 yards or more (21), seven more than the next running back (rookie RJ Harvey).

Internally, the two most likely candidates to fill the OC job would be Strief, whom Payton promoted to assistant head coach last offseason, and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb, who is still a candidate in the Raiders’ search for a head coach. Broncos senior offensive assistant Pete Carmichael was also the Saints’ offensive coordinator for much of Payton’s tenure.

However, Payton has consistently said he will not surrender playcalling duties, so unless he has a major change of heart in that regard, the Broncos’ offensive coordinator will be a prominent voice in the weekly planning as well as in Payton’s ear on game day, but Payton will still call plays. Many inside the Broncos’ complex believe that will make it difficult to keep Webb long term even if he doesn’t get a head coaching job in this hiring cycle.
