Heidi Klum reveals secrets to staying radiant at 52

Heidi Klum has spent more than three decades in the spotlight, but at 52, the supermodel and television personality says her glow comes down to a mix of healthy habits, balance and love.

Speaking to Page Six, Klum revealed her simple approach to staying toned and energized.

“Keep food as real and as unprocessed as possible. You are what you eat,” she explained.

“I’d rather eat an apple or a banana as a snack instead of some pre-made bar where I don’t know what the heck is in it. Support farmers, get wholesome, good food, and try to keep it as healthy as possible.”

Klum’s philosophy is rooted in decades of experience.

Since winning Germany’s “Model 52” contest in 1992, she has graced countless magazine covers, walked in nearly a dozen Victoria’s Secret shows and became a household name as host of Project Runway.

Beyond diet, Klum emphasizes balance in her daily life.

Known for her extravagant annual Halloween parties, she says her everyday routine is far more grounded.

“I don’t overdo anything, I don’t overexercise. You have to listen to your body and not over-exhaust it. It’s important to always move, it’s important to not sit still,” she shared.

The third and perhaps the most joyful secret to her radiance is her husband, Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz.

Married since 2019 Klum says their relationship continues to be a source of strength.

“He’s really hot! There is a kind of feeling of home with him that I had from the very beginning. I feel cared for, loved, worshipped,” she said.

For the unversed, her documentary On & Off the Catwalk by Heidi Klum premieres Sunday, February 22, and Sunday, March 1, at 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben and Joyn.

It offers a behind-the-scenes look at her career and highlights the modeling journeys of her children Leni, 21, and Henry Samuel, 20. She is also mom to Johan, 19, and Lou, 16.

KSE-100 index gains 0.09% to settle at 188,380 after a volatile session marked by cautious investor activity

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) remained highly volatile on Wednesday, with the KSE-100 index ending the session almost unchanged as investors stayed cautious due to a lack of positive cues.

The benchmark index moved within a narrow range, hitting an intra-day high of 189,183.88 and a low of 188,179.51. By the close, the index recorded a thin gain of 177.53 points, or 0.09% and stayed flat at 188,380.39 points.

KTrade Securities noted trading remained largely range-bound as investors adopted a cautious stance, resulting in selective participation across the market.

Activity stayed subdued, with volumes concentrated in a few stocks. Overall market participation remained muted. Despite the absence of any fresh escalation on the Middle East front, investors largely stayed on the sidelines.

Profit-taking in cyclical stocks continued following the State Bank of Pakistan’s decision to keep the policy rate unchanged, limiting upside momentum.

Sector-wise, oil & gas, commercial banks, and cement sectors closed in positive territory, whereas fertiliser and technology stocks remained largely inactive.

Going forward, “we expect range-bound activity to persist until the rollover week concludes. The ongoing and upcoming corporate result season is likely to remain the key catalyst for near-term market direction,” KTrade mentioned.

Overall trading volume increased to 953.9 million shares versus Tuesday’s tally of 749.2m, while shares worth Rs48.8 billion were traded. Shares of 485 companies were traded. Of these, 182 rose, 253, dropped and 50 remained unchanged. K-Electric was the volume leader with trading in 196.7m shares, gaining Rs0.26 to close at Rs7.30.

MELBOURNE:

Fifth seed Elena Rybakina booked her place in the Australian Open semi-finals on Wednesday with a dominant second set display to hand six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek a 7-5 6-1 defeat at Melbourne Park.

Looking to lift the trophy for the first time, the 28-year-old will take on American Jessica Pegula for a place in Saturday’s final.

Rybakina fired 11 aces and 26 winners as she ended Swiatek’s career Grand Slam bid on Rod Laver Arena, winning eight of the last nine games to underline her authority.

“Really pleased with the win,” said Rybakina. “We know each other pretty well and I was just trying to stay aggressive.

“I feel like in the first set for both of us the first serve wasn’t working so we were trying to step in on the second serve to put pressure on each other.

“I think in the second I just started to play more free, serve better and I’m really happy with the win.”

Swiatek had made a quick start, breaking Rybakina in the opening game as she punished the Kazakh’s second serve but the number two seed failed to consolidate, immediately surrendering her advantage.

Both players held serve until the final game, when Swiatek fired into the net to give Rybakina the opening set after almost an hour’s play.

Rybakina then made the most of Swiatek’s frustrations with her service, taking the second game of the second set by crashing a forehand into the corner with the Pole rooted to the spot.

Swiatek was left questioning a marginal line call as Rybakina broke her serve again late in the set before comfortably holding to advance.

Swiatek struggled with her serve throughout the contest and the world number two said that was something she needed to improve on in the coming months.

“I didn’t serve as well as in Cincinnati, for example, against Elena. My serve was kind of normal and sometimes it could have given me a bit more,” Swiatek told reporters.

“There’s some stuff on the serve that I want to change and I already changed that in the pre-season. But then matches come and you don’t have that much time to think about this.

“You don’t want to think about these details when you play. So then it comes back to the old patterns… There’s some stuff that I can change to play better and I’ll try to do that.”

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé is on the radar of the Saudi Pro League. Sky Sports reports that league officials are “laying the groundwork” for a move to sign the 28-year-old in the summer, having already made an enquiry for him. Dembele, who holds both the men’s Ballon d’Or and FIFA the Best awards, has 2½ years left on his contract at the Parc des Princes, but talks over an extension have stalled as club president Nasser Al Khelaifi made clear that he would not break PSG’s wage structure. As you would expect, Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly prepared to offer significant salary amid hopes of tempting him away from the Parc des Princes. It is said that Dembele’s representatives have indicated that he is focusing on this season, but there could be a possibility of a transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Manchester City are set to block any potential exit for striker Omar Marmoush this month, according to Football Insider. Tottenham and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, but City are keen to keep hold of him to ensure there is strong cover for key starter Erling Haaland. Marmoush scored in the 2-0 Premier League win over Wolves on Saturday, in what was his third league start for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested in Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The two European giants are among several teams keen on the 20-year-old, who remains contracted with Juve until the summer of 2029. The Serie A club hopeful of extending his deal by “one or two” more years following an impressive run of form that has seen him register 16 goal contributions in 29 matches this season.

– A move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is being lined up by Atletico Madrid, BILD journalist Christian Falk reports. The LaLiga club have reportedly held talks with the 30-year-old’s representatives after identifying as a potential replacement for Conor Gallagher, who joined Tottenham this month. Atleti are also keen on strengthening their attack, according to Marca, who report they are looking at Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman and Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus.

– Scouts from Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the situation of Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye, according to TEAMtalk. The 25-year-old is reported to have “several” admirers within the Old Trafford hierarchy amid plans to continue signing players with Premier League experience, but any move could hinge on who they appoint as their first-team manager. The report adds that multiple clubs are tracking Ndiaye following his impressive performances at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

Scientists move Doomsday Clock to 85 seconds before midnight: Are humans near extinction | – The Times of India

Scientists move Doomsday Clock to 85 seconds before midnight: Are humans near extinction | - The Times of India

The Doomsday Clock now stands at 85 seconds before midnight. The change was announced by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. Last year, it was set at 89 seconds. The clock is updated annually. It is meant to reflect global conditions, not predict specific events. Scientists involved in the process look at security risks, environmental trends, and emerging technologies. This year’s decision followed discussions around nuclear policy, climate pressures, and the pace of technological change. The Bulletin said these factors were considered together rather than in isolation. The clock has never been set this close to midnight before.

Doomsday Clock warns of rising nuclear dangers and treaty challenges

Alexandra Bell, president of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, said recent developments offered little reassurance on nuclear risk. Several arms control agreements remain under strain, while others face expiration. According to Reuters, she referred to Russia’s war in Ukraine, military activity involving the US and Israel in Iran, and ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Issues in East Asia, including the Korean Peninsula and Taiwan, were also cited.Bell said competition among major powers has complicated cooperation. Analysts have made similar observations in recent years, pointing to reduced diplomatic engagement and limited progress on arms control. The New START treaty, which caps deployed nuclear warheads, expires in February. Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly suggested a one-year extension. The US has not publicly responded. In October, Trump ordered a review of nuclear testing procedures, a move that drew attention from policy experts.

AI and climate change adding to global danger

Nuclear weapons are not the only factors considered in the clock’s setting. Artificial intelligence and climate trends were also part of the discussion. Some experts have expressed concern about how rapidly AI systems are being adopted, particularly in areas linked to security and information sharing. Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa has spoken about the effects of technology on public discourse and trust. Climate change remains a separate but ongoing issue. Scientists continue to track rising temperatures and weather extremes. These developments are widely documented in long-term climate data.

Global leadership crisis

Bell said the clock also reflects broader challenges in international coordination. Political tensions and strategic rivalries have made collective action more difficult, according to the Bulletin. These dynamics are visible across regions, including Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Experts say the issue is not a single crisis, but the accumulation of unresolved ones.

What the Doomsday Clock has been trying to tell us

In 1947, the Doomsday Clock was created to illustrate nuclear risk during the early Cold War. Over time, it has been adjusted forward and backwards as conditions changed. Last year’s setting was already close to midnight. This year’s shift was smaller, but scientists said it reflected continuity rather than sudden change. The Bulletin has stressed that the clock is symbolic. It is intended to prompt discussion, not alarm. Researchers involved say progress remains possible through diplomacy, regulation, and international cooperation. The clock, they say, is a signal, not a countdown!

Gul Plaza blaze took 79 lives, most in mezzanine floor: report

  • Final report to be presented to Sindh CM.
  • Fire erupted around 10:15pm on Jan 17.
  • Rescue teams, fire brigade responded “promptly”.

KARACHI: Karachi’s Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has finalised the investigative report on the devastating Gul Plaza fire, which will be submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Muard Ali Shah, which revealed that 79 lives were lost in the tragedy, sources told Geo News.

The committee, comprising the commissioner and Additional IG, compiled the report, the sources said on Wednesday.

Karachi’s largest fire in more than a decade broke out on January 17 and quickly spread through the sprawling shopping complex, famous for its 1,200 family-owned stores selling wedding clothes, toys, crockery, and other goods.

According to sources, the report details the causes of the fire, actions taken by the fire brigade, rescue operations, and relief efforts. It also incorporates information from victims, eyewitnesses, and rescue officials.

The blaze broke out at 10:15pm on January 17, with the fire brigade informed at 10:26pm. The first fire tender arrived on the scene within 11 minutes, at 10:37pm, while the Deputy Commissioner South reached at 10:30pm and Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at 10:53pm.

Investigators found that the fire originated at a flowershop on the ground floor, caused by a child, and spread rapidly through air-conditioning (AC) ducts to other parts of the building. The tragic incident claimed 79 lives, with the majority of fatalities occurring on the mezzanine floor.

Meanwhile, the search operation of the deadly shopping centre fire culminated after 10 days of arduous rescue and relief efforts, and the scorched shopping centre was sealed on Tuesday.

A first information report (FIR) was later registered at the Nabi Bux Police Station with provisions relating to negligence and carelessness.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that there were concerns of sabotage or terrorism, but the matter was not clear, and anti-terror provisions would be added in the FIR if there was sufficient evidence.

Sindh CM Shah has also announced plans to rebuild shops on the site within two years, saying the remaining part of Gul Plaza would be demolished.

Yale University announced on Tuesday that new undergraduate students from families making under $200,000 a year would receive free tuition and students from families making under $100,000 a year would have all their education costs waived.

“This strategic investment is central to our mission to educate exceptional students from all backgrounds,” Provost Scott Strobel said in a statement. “The benefits are evident as these talented students enrich the Yale campus and go on to serve their communities after graduation.”

The change will go into effect for students entering the institution this fall.

The university previously waived all expected costs — including housing and meal plan — for students from families earning less than $75,000 a year. But Yale said the move to raise the limit to $100,000 means nearly half of American households with children ages 6 to 17 will qualify for all education expenses being covered.

“I am thrilled that Yale is making this important investment in affordability,” Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Jeremiah Quinlan said. “With this announcement, we reiterate and reinforce Yale’s commitment to ensuring that cost will never be a barrier between promising students and a Yale College education.”

Yale’s announcement comes after several prestigious universities made similar moves in recent years, including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Last fall, Harvard revealed a nearly identical policy while Penn announced it would make tuition-free for families making less than $200,000 a year.

As it stands now, 56% of the undergraduate class at Yale receive need-based aid and 1,000 students qualify for a no-cost degree. The average grant for all students receiving aid in the current academic year is more than the annual cost of tuition.

“Yale makes a special effort to support students with the greatest financial need,” said Kari DiFonzo, Yale’s director of undergraduate financial aid. “Beyond generous financial aid offers, Yale provides extra grants for students to purchase winter clothing, to pursue summer experiences abroad, and to respond to unexpected financial hardships.”

The total cost of attendance at Yale currently exceeds $90,000 for undergraduates.

“For more than 60 years, Yale has considered applicants without regard to their ability to pay and has provided scholarship support to meet families’ full financial needs,” Dean of Yale College Pericles Lewis said. “This approach has been instrumental in attracting the most talented, ambitious, and dynamic undergraduates to Yale.”

China’s giant pandas Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei arrived safely in Sichuan on Wednesday, China’s panda research base said in a social media post, following an emotional goodbye from fans in Tokyo, where the pair were born and raised.

Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei arrived at Chengdu’s Tianfu International Airport at 1am on Wednesday, a WeChat post by the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda showed. They reached the centre in Ya’an, Sichuan, at 6am on Wednesday, where they will undergo quarantine.

The twin pandas were born in Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo in 2021. Their parents, Shin Shin and Ri Ri, returned to China in 2024.

Since its founding in 1949, China has used panda diplomacy to boost its international image and cement ties with other countries by gifting or loaning out pandas. The pandas typically return home after the agreement ends, and pandas born overseas, like Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei, usually go to a Chinese breeding program between the ages of two and four.

Pictures on the WeChat post showed the pandas’ crates being unloaded from a Sichuan Airlines plane and then transported to a truck while workers in white protective suits look on.

Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei have “continuously put up bridges of friendship between the people of China and Japan” and “made a positive contribution to promoting friendship between the peoples of the two countries”, the research centre said.

The panda’s journey coincided with a low point in Sino-Japanese relations. In November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Japan would respond militarily in the event of a Chinese attack on democratically governed Taiwan. China, which regards Taiwan as a wayward province, reacted angrily to the comment and advised citizens against travelling to Japan.
