Paul Dano responds after Quentin Tarantino calls him a ‘weak’ actor
Paul Dano has finally addressed Quentin Tarantino’s harsh criticism of his work.
The remarks emerged in December 2025 on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast, where Tarantino called Dano the “weakest” actor in Hollywood and singled him out as the only flaw in There Will Be Blood.
The director argued that Dano’s performance paled next to Daniel Day-Lewis. He went on to dismiss Dano as uninteresting and implied he lacked presence on screen. The comments quickly went viral and sparked backlash across the industry.
However, Dano, 41, stayed silent all this time until recently, when Variety brought it up during a chat at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday.
At first, it was Toni Collette, also present there with Dano to attend the 20th anniversary of Little Miss Sunshine, who came to the actor’s defense when the topic came up.
“F*** that guy!” Collette, 53, said of Tarantino. “He must’ve been high. It was just confusing. Who does that?”
Dano responded to his fellow co-star, saying, “That was really nice. I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me, so I didn’t have to.”
Little Miss Sunshine co-director Jonathan Dayton also told the outlet that Tarantino’s comments were an “embarrassment.”
“I can only think that his rawness of his performance made Tarantino uncomfortable,” Dayton added. Director Valerie Faris also defended Dano.
Several high-profile figures echoed that support online. The Batman director Matt Reeves praised Dano’s talent and character, while Ben Stiller also called him an incredible actor.
Dano’s career includes acclaimed roles in The Batman, Prisoners, Love & Mercy, and The Fabelmans. He received a BAFTA nomination for There Will Be Blood and has earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.
Tarantino later clarified that he did not think Dano was terrible. He said he simply found his performance forgettable.

Dove Cameron spills messy proposal details: ‘oversized shirt, no makeup’
Dove Cameron is sharing some rare insights into her intimate proposal by fiancé Damiano David.
The 30-year-old actress recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and revealed some behind-the-scenes moments when the Italian singer popped the question.
The pair got engaged last year in October but kept the news under wraps until the start of 2026.
While showing off her diamond ring on camera, Dove revealed that Damiano designed her ring himself.
“He did such a beautiful job. He helped design it so I feel like, especially touched and it’s so perfect,” she praised.
Show host, Jimmy Fallon, asked if she was aware of the proposal before. Dove shared that she knew Damiano was designing her ring as he told her himself.
“He was like, ‘I’m designing the ring.’ And then he was like, ‘The ring is done.’ So, I knew,” she admitted with a laugh.
Jimmy chimmed in,” So, any day now this could happen. You let me know when you’re ready bud!”
But the actress revealed she was not aware when he was going to propose, and revealed she was not even in the best version of herself when Damiano popped the question.
“It was a day that I like never could have projected. We were packing and I’m the worst version of myself when I’m packing,” she shared the details, recalling she was wearing an oversized shirt in wet hair and had “no makeup” put on at the time.
Keurig coffee pods face recall over major labeling error
Keurig users should check their cabinets as more than 80,000 pods have been recalled.
Last month, manufacturing company Keurig Dr Pepper issued a voluntary recall on its McCafé Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods due to a labeling error. Despite being listed as decaf, the pods may contain caffeine.
Last week, the FDA elevated the recall to a class II risk classification, meaning that consuming the pods comes with a health risk.
Although the product is safe to drink, customers who have a caffeine sensitivity should be mindful of potential side effects. The FDA has advised that 400 milligrams per day of caffeine — about two to three 12-fluid-ounce cups of coffee — is a safe amount to consume for most adults without any negative effects.
The 960 cartons of affected coffee pods were distributed in California, Indiana and Nevada. Each box contains 84 individual coffee pods and can be identified by the “best-buy” date of November 17, 2026, and batch number 5101564894.
The product can be further identified by material number 5000358463 and ASIN B07GCNDL91.
It is not known if the company has received any complaints as a result of the error. Customers are encouraged to either discard the recalled pods or return them to their place of purchase in exchange for a refund or replacement.
“In cooperation with the FDA, in mid-December, we initiated a voluntary recall of a limited number of 84-count boxes of McCafe Premium Roast Decaf coffee K-Cup pods, sold exclusively through Amazon. All consumers who purchased this product were notified directly in mid-December, and all product was removed from sale at that time,” a spokesperson for Keurig Dr Pepper wrote in a statement shared with The Independent.
“We are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in the products we produce and distribute.”
Another coffee pod was recently recalled due to a similar labeling error. Gimme Coffee, Inc. announced in October that it was voluntarily recalling its Gimme! Decaf de Agua Coffee Pods, after it was discovered that the pods contained caffeine. The recall was also later elevated to Class II.
The 252 affected boxes of coffee pods can be identified by the UPC 051497457990 and an outer packaging best-by date of October 15, 2025, and an inner packaging best-by date of September 30.
Boxes of 10 coffee pods were distributed to the following states: Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
The company had not received any complaints from customers regarding the mix-up as of October 24. Any customers who do have the recalled product are advised to either contact the company for a return or replacement, or return the coffee pods to the place of purchase.
Questions can be directed to Gimme! Coffee using the phone number (607) 273-0111 or the email address orders@gimmecoffee.com.
Stephen Curry wins award at Sundance Film Festival for co-directed short film
Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry is adding award-winning director to his résumé.
“The Baddest Speechwriter of All,” a short film Curry directed with Canadian filmmaker Ben Proudfoot, took home the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival on Tuesday night.
“Stephen and I are jumping for joy [him a lot higher than I] with this extraordinary recognition,” Proudfoot said, according to Deadline.
Produced by Proudfoot’s Breakwater Studios, Curry and Unanimous Media, “The Baddest Speechwriter of All” tells the story of Clarence B. Jones, an attorney and adviser who was a key speechwriter for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It dives into Jones’ personal reflection of creating history and gives an inside perspective of the Civil Rights Movement.
Congratulations to the recipient of the Short Film Grand Jury Prize

Proudfoot, who has previously worked with Curry, said that the Golden State Warriors guard has allowed him to become a better filmmaker.
“On a personal note, to share creative duties with Stephen, one of the greatest living athletes and just [a] truly good man, has given me an opportunity to grow as a filmmaker and be part of telling a story I probably never would have learned until Stephen called me,” Proudfoot said.
Curry and Proudfoot also worked together on “The Queen of Basketball,” a 2022 Oscar-winning short film about Lusia Harris, who scored the first basket in Olympic women’s basketball history and was the first woman to officially be drafted by an NBA team. Curry and Shaquille O’Neal served as executive producers, and Proudfoot was the director.
Curry wasn’t in attendance at the Sundance Film Festival, which is taking place in Park City, Utah. According to Deadline, Proudfoot and Curry plan to celebrate the award after the Warriors’ Wednesday night matchup against the Utah Jazz.
Curry is averaging 27.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and five assists this season.
Has India’s dominance in ICC revenue model factored in Bangladesh’s dismissal from World Cup 2026? | The Express Tribune
Bangladesh’s ejection from the T20 World Cup raises questions about ICC neutrality, BCCI power

Bangladesh’s request to play the T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside India was not entertained by the International Cricket Council (ICC), leading to their ejection from the marquee event. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had refused to play their matches in India in response to the termination of Mustafizur Rahman’s contract by Kolkata Knight Riders, on the instructions of the BCCI.
There were no reasons given by the BCCI for its verdict.
The board that did not let a single Bangladeshi player compete in its biggest league wanted the entire team to assemble and play their matches in India.
The ICC dismissed the security concerns raised by the BCB, stating that “no credible or verifiable security threat to the Bangladesh national team, officials or supporters in India” was found in their elaborate assessment of the situation.
While mainstream analysis has treated this as a singular conflict between the ICC and BCB, the lack of mention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) signals that the world’s most influential cricketing board’s presence did not factor in.
This has also been the official stance of the BCCI. When Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, was asked about the conflict earlier this month, he stated that the matter falls beyond the purview of the Indian cricketing board. “It’s not our domain to talk about that,” Saikia had said.
The ICC functions not on a specific framework, but on the caprices of the BCCI, as suggested by The Wire journalist, Ravi Raj. For instance, last year, India also adopted a similar stance by not sending the team to Pakistan, which was hosting the Champions Trophy 2025.
Their request was promptly heard, and their matches were shifted to Dubai. But the same request from Bangladesh has not been given the same consideration. The ICC is now more wary of setting a “precedent that would jeopardise the sanctity of future ICC events”, and “undermine its neutrality as a global governing body.” The precedent was set a year ago by the BCCI, and the BCB was simply following the same script.
Read: Bangladesh says will not play T20 World Cup matches if in India
Jason Gillespie, the former Australian cricketer, pointed out this inconsistency when he posted on X: “Has there been an explanation from the ICC why Bangladesh could not play their games outside of India?” The tweet is deleted as of now following abuse from netizens.
“In the past, India refused to play Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan and were allowed to play those games outside the country. Can someone make this make sense?” Gillespie wrote in the post.
BCCI receives about 38.5% of ICC’s annual earnings (~US$ 230 million) in the 2024–27 revenue cycle under the new ICC finance model. According to international media, the ICC’s revenue-sharing formula hinges on the commercial value each board generates, a space dominated by the BCCI.
In August, the ICC confirmed a four-year broadcast deal with India’s Disney Star worth a reported $3 billion — far exceeding any other rights agreement for its events. A significant amount of ICC’s revenue, about 80%, is generated through India’s consumer base.
The current chair of the ICC, Jay Shah, is the youngest to hold this position. He previously served as the president of the BCCI and was elected unopposed to his current position. He is also the son of India’s home minister, BJP’s Amit Shah.
Raj says that the BCCI’s conflict with either the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or the BCB shows the fractured geopolitical relationship between these South Asian nations.
For instance, last year during the Asia Cup, the Indian team went against the prevailing sentiment by not forfeiting their match against Pakistan, despite, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack.
Perhaps Kolkata Knight Riders could have objected rather than simply obeying the diktat from the board. Not necessarily because they think the termination is unfair, but purely on sporting grounds as well, but that is not how it played out.
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt’s son Pax attends Sundance Film Festival
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Pax Jolie-Pitt made a rare public appearance this week, quietly stepping into the spotlight at the Sundance Film Festival while keeping his focus firmly behind the scenes.
The 22-year-old was photographed at a Jan. 23 screening of Self Custody in Park City, Utah, where he posed with director Garrett Patten and producer Fernando Ferro.
Wearing a red flannel layered over a black T-shirt and accessorised with a chunky silver chain, Pax appeared relaxed as he chatted with the filmmakers before later attending a TBK Productions party.
While his appearance caught attention, it does not signal a move toward acting.
In fact, Angelina Jolie has made it clear that her children have little interest in being in front of the camera.
Speaking at the 2025 Santa Barbara Film Festival, she said of Pax and his siblings, “None of them are dying to be on screen. They’re not interested.”
Jolie, who also shares children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne with Brad Pitt, explained that fame itself holds little appeal for them.
“They really don’t like any of the celebrity part of it,” she said, adding, “It’s not a normal thing. It’s a silly thing really.”
Instead, Pax has been building experience in film production.
He previously worked as a still photographer on Jolie’s 2017 film First They Killed My Father and again on her 2024 biopic Maria.
His siblings are following similar paths, with Maddox earning production credits of his own and Vivienne working as a producer’s assistant on Broadway’s The Outsiders.
Jolie has spoken warmly about Vivienne’s approach to creative work, telling E! News in 2023, “Viv reminds me of my mother, in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives.”
She added, “She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
Pax’s Sundance appearance offered a brief glimpse into his growing presence in the film world, one that mirrors his family’s creative legacy while deliberately staying out of the spotlight.
Alabama judge recused from Charles Bediako’s eligibility case
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The judge in Alabama men’s basketball player Charles Bediako‘s eligibility lawsuit against the NCAA has recused himself from the case.
Tuscaloosa Circuit Court Judge James Roberts filed the order Wednesday, according to court documents. AL.com first reported Roberts’ recusal.
The case was reassigned to Judge Daniel Pruet, an Alabama graduate who is overseeing the murder case involving former Crimson Tide player Darius Miles.
The NCAA filed a motion for recusal Tuesday, noting Roberts’ donations to the university as well as public perception that his relationship with Alabama athletics could alter his judgment in the case. Roberts was listed as a donor on the Crimson Tide Foundation’s website.
“Courts in Alabama and beyond have widely recognized that a mere appearance of partiality is sufficient to require the recusal of a trial judge,” the NCAA wrote. “This appearance can be compounded by widespread media and public scrutiny questioning the trial court’s impartiality. Despite the NCAA’s confidence that the Court can disregard his connections to the University of Alabama and its athletics programs, recusal is still necessary to protect these proceedings from an appearance of impropriety.”
Bediako’s attorneys did not oppose the motion.
Bediako is suing the NCAA in an attempt to regain college eligibility despite leaving school and entering the 2023 NBA draft. He went undrafted but signed a two-way NBA contract and played the past three seasons in the G League. Roberts granted a temporary restraining order last week that allows Bediako to play for the Crimson Tide, at least until a hearing on an injunction can be held.
No. 23 Alabama plays at No. 19 Florida on Sunday.
The NCAA and several college coaches, including Florida’s Todd Golden, have strongly opposed Bediako’s return to college basketball.
