MILAN:

Inter Milan moved eight points clear at the top of Serie A after a comfortable 2-0 victory over hosts Cremonese on Sunday, but the victory was marred by a flare thrown on to the pitch from the away end that narrowly missed home goalkeeper Emil Audero.

The win takes Inter to 55 points from 23 games, eight ahead of city rivals AC Milan, who have a game in hand. Cremonese lie in 16th with 23 points from the same number of games.

Lautaro Martinez and Piotr Zielinski scored first-half goals as the visitors took control of the contest and despite not finding the back of the net again, they never looked unduly troubled by their hosts.

“There’s a long way to go,” Martinez told DAZN. “We made mistakes, especially in the first half, but there’s also a lot to enjoy because the championship is very balanced.”

Early in the second half a flare was thrown from the stands and landed near Audero, who dropped to the floor but did not appear to be injured. The match continued following a short delay.

“These things must not happen, there’s a risk to a person,” Martinez said. “We’re putting on a show that can be seen all over the world. I apologise to Audero and all the Cremonese fans.”

Inter have won 10 of their last 11 Serie A games since losing to AC Milan in November, their only blemish in that run a 2-2 home draw with Napoli.

By contrast, Cremonese are winless in eight, with five defeats in that sequence, which leaves them six points above the relegation zone.

The visitors might have won by a greater margin given their dominance of possession and chances, but did more than enough to secure another three points.

Inter hit the front on 16 minutes thanks to a header from Martinez, who steered Federico Dimarco’s corner into the net. It was just reward for a bright start.

Cremonese had an excellent chance to equalise when Jamie Vardy was sent through on goal. However, a heavy touch allowed Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer to get to the ball ahead of him.

The ball swerved past Audero, who will feel he should have made the save, but the power and the movement through the air left him floundering.

Lightning stun Bruins with historic four-goal comeback

TAMPA, Fla. — Nikita Kucherov scored the tying goal in the third period, Jake Guentzel scored the only goal in the shootout and the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied from a four-goal deficit to beat the Boston Bruins 6-5 in front of 64,617 fans at an NHL Stadium Series game at Raymond James Stadium.

Kucherov finished with a goal and three assists, Brandon Hagel had a goal and two assists, and Oliver Bjorkstrand, Darren Raddysh and Nick Paul all scored power-play goals after Tampa Bay fell behind 5-1 in the second period.

Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 29 saves.

Tampa Bay’s four-goal comeback is the largest in NHL outdoor game history and the largest comeback victory in franchise history.

Morgan Geekie had a pair of goals and three points, and Viktor Arvidsson, Alex Steeves and Matthew Poitras also scored for the Bruins, which improved to 10-1-2 in the past 13 games. Charlie McAvoy had a pair of assists, and Jeremy Swayman finished with 41 saves.

Kucherov completed Tampa Bay’s comeback with a one-timer from the left circle with 8:10 left in the third period.

The game featured the first goalie fight in outdoor game history when Vasilevskiy and Swayman exchanged blows at center ice in the second period. The Lightning pointed to the goalie fight as a spark to their comeback when they were down 5-2.

“That was a game-changing moment for our team, and that’s what we needed,” Guentzel said. “That was definitely cool to watch.”

With an opening puck drop temperature of 41.8 degrees Fahrenheit (5.44 Celsius), Hagel fired up the crowd with a goal just 11 seconds in — the fastest goal in NHL outdoor game history and tying a franchise record for fastest goal to start a game.

The Bruins scored the next five goals as Steeves, Geekie and Arvidsson all scored within 7:39 to give Boston a 3-1 lead after the first. Poitras scored on a backhander at 2:22 of the second period, and Geekie notched his second of the game at 8:18.

“We came out strong, obviously they scored right away but we got to our game right after,” Geekie said.

Bjorkstrand scored at 10:28 to make it 5-2.

The Lightning scored a pair of five-on-three power-play goals 23 seconds apart. Raddysh tallied a goal for the fourth consecutive game to set a franchise record for a defenseman. Paul then tapped in a pass from Guentzel to make it 5-4.

“It was the game had everything,” Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. “It had the weather in a state which doesn’t usually get weather like this. It was a phenomenal atmosphere, perfect ice hockey playing conditions. You had goalie fights, you had 11 goals, you had a shootout. It had everything. That one’s going to go in the memory bank. It was a special occasion.”

Trump hopeful of Iran deal after Tehran warnings of regional war – SUCH TV

Trump hopeful of Iran deal after Tehran warnings of regional war - SUCH TV

Following the Iranian authorities’ deadly response to anti-government protests that peaked last month, Trump has threatened military action and ordered the dispatch of an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.

Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday likened the recent protests to a “coup”, warning that a US attack would trigger a broad conflict.

“The Americans should know that if they start a war, this time it will be a regional war,” he said, telling Iranians they “should not be scared” of Trump’s rhetoric.

“They (rioters) attacked the police, government centres, IRGC centres, banks, and mosques, and burned the Holy Quran… It was like a coup,” Khamenei said, adding that “the coup was suppressed”.

Asked about the Iranian leader’s warning, Trump told reporters on Sunday: “Of course he is going to say that.

“Hopefully we’ll make a deal. If we don’t make a deal, then we’ll find out whether or not he was right,” he said.

The demonstrations in Iran began as an expression of discontent at the high cost of living, but grew into a mass anti-government movement that the country’s leaders have described as “riots” stoked by the United States and Israel.

Iranian authorities nonetheless ordered the release of detained 26-year-old protester Erfan Soltani on bail, his lawyer said on Sunday, after Washington warned he was on death row and threatened an attack if any anti-government demonstrators were executed.

He was arrested in January for what Iran’s judiciary said were charges of propaganda against Iran’s Islamic system and acting against national security.

Washington had warned he was due to be executed, though Tehran said he had never been sentenced to death and that the charges against him did not carry the death penalty.

As tensions heightened between Iran and the United States, Tehran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday said he was concerned about “miscalculations” but said he believed Trump was “wise enough to make the correct decision”.

He said Iran has lost trust in the United States as a negotiating partner, adding that some countries in the region were acting as intermediaries to rebuild trust.

“So I see the possibility of another talk if the US negotiation team follows what President Trump said: to come to a fair and equitable deal to ensure that there is no nuclear weapons,” he said in an interview with CNN.

‘Terrorist’ designations

Tehran has acknowledged thousands of deaths during the protests, and on Sunday the presidency published a list of 2,986 names out of the 3,117 that authorities said were killed in the unrest.

Of the total, 131 have yet to be identified but their details will be released soon, it said in a statement.

Authorities insist most were members of the security forces and innocent bystanders, attributing the violence to “terrorist acts”.

However, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said it has confirmed 6,842 deaths, mostly protesters.

The response prompted the European Union to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, with Iranian lawmakers retaliating on Sunday by slapping the same designation on European armies.

Lawmakers wore the green uniform of the Guards in a display of solidarity at the legislative session, where they chanted “Death to America”, “Death to Israel” and “Shame on you, Europe”, state television footage showed.

It remained unclear what immediate impact the decision would have.

The step matched similar classifications enacted by the United States, Canada and Australia.

Threats and dialogue

Firouzeh, a 43-year-old homemaker who declined to give her full name, said the recent tensions had left her “very worried and scared”.

“Lately, all I do is watch the news until I fall asleep. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to check the updates,” she said.

IRGC official Ahmad Vahidi was quoted by the Mehr news agency as saying “enemies” sought to create a “war atmosphere”.

But Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on Saturday: “Contrary to the hype of the contrived media war, structural arrangements for negotiations are progressing.”

Trump also confirmed that dialogue was taking place, but without withdrawing his earlier threats, adding “we’ll see what happens”.

The US president previously said he believed Iran would make a deal over its nuclear and missile programmes rather than face military action.

Tehran, meanwhile, has said it is ready for nuclear talks if its missile and defence capabilities are not on the agenda.

King Charles receives delightful message as crucial mission gets update

King Charles is finally beginning to see the fruits of his hard work as his life-long mission is getting the attention and praise it deserves.

The topic of sustainability and protecting the natural environment had been a tricky to talk about and Charles had received plenty of criticism for it. However, it was his forward-thinking which brought him to a point, where he can make a significant difference in the matter.

The monarch received high-praise from Leonard Russell, the managing director and chairman of family-owned firm Ian Macleod Distillers, after being “awarded” for having the best whisky.

Leonard stressed on how important it was for someone like the King to talk about it. He shared it that it was a “pleasure and a privilege to meet” Charles.

“I know how supportive he is of supporting the environment,” he told GB News. “With sustainability and good quality architecture, but particularly supporting the rural city, because he spends a lot of time in Scotland at Balmoral during the summer.

He noted, “I know that he enjoys that walk around in the hills, and how he is genuinely concerned about nature.”

The update comes just days after the King marked the premiere of the documentary that sheds light on Charles’s lifelong commitment to the environment.

He reaffirmed his resolve to keep fighting for not just his future for his children and grandchildren. He asserted that he “wasn’t going to be diverted” from his environmental campaign, despite the continued criticism.

Govt to permit sale of goods from SEZs in domestic market - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Amid trade tensions, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday sought to address a long pending demand of the commerce department by allowing the sale of goods by eligible manufacturers in special economic zones (SEZs) to domestic tariff area on payment of duty at concessional rates.Sitharaman said that only a prescribed share of production can be sold in the Indian market outside SEZs at lower rates instead of paying the specified import duty.Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said that the move will help in reducing the imports from overseas as several units have spare capacity, leading to availability of these goods at competitive prices in the country. “We will keep in mind that domestic industry should not suffer from this… we may keep some sectors out of this such as oil refineries,” Goyal told a news agency. The norms are expected to be announced over the next month or two.In 2024-25, oil accounted for nearly 40% of the goods exported from these zones with Reliance’s Jamnagar being the source. It was followed by engineering (19%) and gems and jewellery. Last year, goods exports from SEZs were pegged at $69 billion. “The relief to SEZ units for limited access to the domestic market will enable units to achieve economies of scale and help in import substitution,” said commerce secretary Rajesh Agrawal.

South Korea stocks fall more than 4%, triggering temporary halt on Kospi index

A study of affluent Chinese released this month by consulting firm Oliver Wyman found that 22% of respondents were negative about the economy when surveyed in May. It just exceeds the 21% seen in October 2022, just before Beijing announced plans to ease its stringent zero-Covid policy.

South Korean benchmarks tumbled Monday, leading wider declines in the region.

The Kospi index fell more than 4%, while the Kospi 200 futures dropped as much as 5%, prompting authorities to temporarily halt trading, according to an official note. Index heavyweights SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics were down 6.66% and 5.55%, respectively.

The small-cap Kosdaq lost 4.45%.

Asia-Pacific markets fell Monday as investors assessed private data for China’s factory activity in January, while gold extended losses from Friday.

China’s factory activity gathered speed in January, according to a private survey released Monday, as manufacturers accelerated production and loaded cargoes ahead of the extended Lunar New Year holiday.

The RatingDog China General Manufacturing PMI, conducted by S&P Global, rose to 50.3 in January from 50.1 the previous month, in line with analysts’ expectations of 50.3 in a Reuters poll. A reading above the 50 benchmark indicates an expansion, while one below that suggests contraction.

That marked the strongest level since October, when the private-surveyed PMI came in at 50.6.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.13%, while the Topix added 0.52%.

Hong Kong Hang Seng index declined 1.64%, while the mainland CSI 300 is down 0.68%.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 1%.

Gold and silver are in focus after Friday’s sharp declines. Spot gold was trading 5% lower at $4,612 per ounce, while silver slid around 4% to $81.189 per ounce.

Silver prices, which had more than doubled over the past 12 months, plunged around 30% last Friday, marking the metal’s worst one-day performance since 1980. Gold also dropped around 9%.

Futures tied to the main U.S. benchmarks fell during early Asia hours as Wall Street begins a new month of trading, with traders keeping an eye on bitcoin after a weekend sell-off.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures lost 143 points, or 0.3%. S&P 500 futures dipped 0.6%, while Nasdaq-100 futures shed nearly 1%.

Bitcoin dropped below $80,000 for the first time since April, a sign investors were taking more risk off the table following the sharp declines in gold and silver.

Bitcoin last traded around $76,700.

Last Friday, U.S. stocks retreated as technology shares remained in a funk, even as investors largely approved of U.S. President Donald Trump’s pick of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve.

Still, the S&P 500 squeaked out a January gain, despite Friday’s losses and volatile trading this month. The broad index fell 0.43% to finish at 6,939.03, its third straight down day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average pulled back 0.36%, to settle at 48,892.47. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite underperformed, dropping 0.94%, to end the day at 23,461.82. All three indexes fell more than 1% at session lows.

Lauryn Hill leads star tribute celebrating Roberta Flack’s legacy at the Grammys

Lauryn Hill led a special tribute performance honouring the late Roberta Flack and D’Angelo at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

The tribute was met with widespread praise, with many saying Hill is uniquely positioned to honour two artists who helped shape soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

Following Flack’s death last February, Hill reflected on the singer’s impact in an Instagram post, writing that Flack “moved me and showed me through her own creative choices and standards what else was possible within the idiom of Soul.”

Hill also credited Flack’s version of Killing Me Softly With His Song as a direct influence on her own career.

The Fugees’ 1996 reinterpretation of the song became a global hit and introduced Flack’s work to a new generation of listeners.

Flack’s icatalog has been widely sampled and referenced by artists across hip-hop, including Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, Lil’ Kim, Scarface, and Jadakiss.

Hill’s role in the GRAMMYs tribute highlights the enduring influence of Flack and D’Angelo.
