After Budget and India-US trade deal, all eyes on RBI’s repo rate decision

New Delhi: After the Union Budget 2026 and the historic India-US trade deal, all eyes are now on the three-day Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting that begins from Wednesday, with the key repo rate decision on Friday.

Economists believe RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra-led MPC is likely to pause any further policy rate cut. The Central Bank is rather set to undertake direct measures to tackle liquidity, bond stability and currency-related risks.

The RBI has already lowered the repo rate by 125 basis points since February 2025 to 5.25 per cent.

With inflation likely to move higher (even in the new base year series to be published starting February 12, there is little reason for moving in with further cuts, said analysts.

“With the current repo rate at 5.25 per cent, and with inflation anticipated at around 4 per cent (will wait to see if the new series changes the inflation view), the current real rate of 125 bps seems reasonable,” according to a note by Yes Bank.

The RBI should stay on a pause and keep stance at “neutral” and retain its fire power in the event of any growth slump, it added.

“We expect bond purchases to continue this quarter and in April-June 2026. With the FY27 Budget outlining a record high of borrowings, the central bank might prefer to be agile and nimble its money market related operations and keep borrowing costs in check,” according to Radhika Rao, Executive Director and Senior Economist at DBS Bank.

The RBI recently announced a series of liquidity-enhancing measures that will pump in more than Rs 2 lakh crore into the banking system to ease liquidity pressure. The Central Bank said it will use a combination of open market bond purchases, a foreign exchange swap, and a variable rate repo operation to ease liquidity conditions in the financial system. The steps are being undertaken following a review of current liquidity and financial conditions.

Shaboozey finally addresses backlash over his Grammy acceptance speech

Shaboozey has finally addressed the backlash over his Grammy acceptance speech.

While accepting the trophy for Best Country Performance on Sunday, the Let It Burn musician gave an emotional speech.

Recognizing the sacrifices of immigrants, Shaboozey said, “Immigrants built this country, literally. For all children of immigrants, this is also for those who came to this country in search of better opportunities, to be part of a nation that promised freedom for all and equal opportunity to everyone willing to work for it.”

“Thank you for bringing your culture, your music, your stories and your traditions. You give America color, I love y’all so much. Thank you,” he added.

After the 30-year-old rapper’s speech made headlines, several social media users claimed that it was actually enslaved Black people, rather than immigrants.

Responding to the backlash, Shaboozey posted a lengthy note on his Instagram handle on Tuesday, February 3.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has supported and celebrated my journey as an artist,” he began. “I also want to acknowledge the conversation surrounding my acceptance speech.”

Shaboozey further penned, “To be clear, I know and believe that we—Black people, have also built this country. My words were never intended to dismiss that truth. I am both a Black man and the son of Nigerian immigrants and in the overwhelming moment of winning my first Grammy my focus was on honoring the sacrifices my parents made by coming to this country to give me and my siblings opportunities they never had.”

“At the same time, winning this award on the first day of Black History Month and becoming the first Black man to win Best Country Duo is Black history. It stands on the foundation laid by generations of Black people who fought, sacrificed, and succeeded long before me. This moment belongs to all of us,” continued the Finally Over hitmaker.

Concluding his lengthy note, Shaboozey wrote, “My entire career has been rooted in lifting people up, honoring where we come from, and expanding what’s possible. I am proud to be part of this legacy, and I intend to continue doing that work for the rest of my life.”

A jaw-dropping video captured the traumatic moment a 12-year-old girl plunged to the ground after dangling momentarily from a ski chairlift in California.

The frightening incident happened Saturday at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, when the visiting snowboarder appeared to be unsecured on the chairlift.

In a video that went viral on social media, the girl appeared to grip the chairlift in a desperate struggle as her feet flailed in the air, still strapped to her snowboard.

Several mountain staff members were then seen rushing over to help, placing padding and a safety net below in an attempt to catch her fall.

The girl then crashed to the ground, tragically missing most of the safety net, according to the footage. Rescuers appeared briefly in shock before scrambling over in alarm.

A woman claiming to be the girl’s mother commented on the post, saying her daughter “miraculously walked away with no broken bones or major injuries.”

“As the mother of my 12 yo daughter that fell today I really want to thank everyone who came out to help her,” she said. “The mammoth team did their best to get to her as quickly as possible. It was an incredibly traumatic experience and everyone supported us.”

Addressing questions about why the chair’s safety bar was not lowered, the mother emphasized that no one was at fault. She indicated that the chair slipped almost immediately after her daughter got on, leaving no time to secure it.

“As to the bar – we had no chance,” she added. “She slipped down right away. There was nothing that anyone did wrong. It was a series of small choices that happened quickly that led to a fluke accident.”

In the video, the girl appeared to be sitting next to two other people before falling. According to her mother, the group held onto her as long as possible, which gave rescuers time to respond.

“As a mother I know it is my job to protect my child,” she said. “We held on as long as we could. Long enough to have people get into position to allow her to walk away.”

Despite the traumatic experience, she said the family will not be deterred from skiing and “will be riding again when she’s ready.”

Nelson Peltz shares his advice for daughter Nicola amid Beckham family drama

Nelson Peltz, the father of Nicola Peltz, has spoken publicly for the first time about his family ending up “in the press” amid his son-in-law Brooklyn Beckham’s feud with his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham.

Earlier this month, Brooklyn shared an explosive online statement aimed at former Spice Girl Victoria and soccer icon David, where he accused them of “trying endlessly to ruin” his relationship with his wife Nicola since their 2022 wedding.

During a WSJ Invest Live event Tuesday, reporter Lauren Thomas asked Nelson about “negotiating high-stakes situations, particularly playing out in public view,” as his daughter has recently been in the spotlight.

“Has my family been in the press lately?” Nelson jokingly responded. “I haven’t noticed that at all.”

He then shared the advice he’s offered his family for navigating being heavily scrutinized online.

“My advice is to stay the hell out of the press. How much good did that do?” the billionaire investor said. “My daughter and the Beckhams are a whole other story. That’s not for coverage here today, but I’ll tell you my daughter’s great, my son-law Brooklyn is great, and I look forward to them having a long, happy marriage together.”

Brooklyn first broke his silence on the long-standing family feud January 19, saying he did not want to reconcile with his family. Instead, he was “standing up” for himself “for the first time” in his life.

“Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.”

He also confirmed previous reports that his mother “hijacked” the first dance at the wedding. He claimed that during the ceremony, he was “humiliated” when Victoria “danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.”

DJ Fat Tony, who was at the wedding, has agreed with Brooklyn’s claim that Victoria’s behaviour was “inappropriate”, solely due to “the timing.”

He said that singer Mark Anthony called Victoria to the stage in place of Peltz, and said the former Spice girl was “the most beautiful woman in the room,” which “devastated” Brooklyn and sent Peltz out of the room in tears.

In his first public response to his son’s statement, David told CNBC’s Squawk Box that “you have to let your children make mistakes” while speaking about the power of social media.

“They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn,” he said. “That is what I try to teach my kids, you sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

Days after Brooklyn made the bombshell statement, David and Victoria put on a united front at a fashion event during Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris. While Brooklyn wasn’t in attendance, his three siblings, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, appeared alongside their parents.

At a subsequent event at the French Ministry of Culture, Victoria Beckham was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for her work as a fashion designer.

Curiosity Corner: Who invented school? – The Times of India

Curiosity Corner: Who invented school?

Every child (even we in our times) has wondered about school at some point. Who started it. Why do classrooms exist. Was there homework long ago. The story of school is older than notebooks and bells. It is a journey that began with stories, not blackboards.

Before schools had buildings

Long before schools had walls, learning happened anywhere. Children learned from elders at home, in farms, and in workshops. Skills passed through stories, songs, and daily work. A potter taught clay by touch. A farmer taught seasons by watching the sky. Learning was slow, personal, and tied to life.

Social Media and Parenting: How to Ensure Safety of Children

Ancient schools without desks

As cities grew, learning needed space and order. In ancient India, gurukuls existed. Children lived with a teacher and learned under trees. In Mesopotamia, children went to edubbas, or tablet houses, to learn writing. In Egypt, scribes trained students for record keeping. These were early schools, but they felt more like homes of learning.

When thinking became the lesson

Schools underwent another transformation in ancient Greece. Teachers like Plato opened places to ask questions. His Academy focused on thinking, not just facts. Students discussed ideas, nature, and numbers. Curiosity replaced memorisation as the primary factor in learning. Even now, teaching is still shaped by this change.

So who invented modern school

No single person invented school. But modern public schooling has a clear name. Horace Mann, in the 1800s, helped build the public school system in the United States. He believed all children deserved education, not just the rich. Timetables, subjects, and classrooms became common almost everywhere because of this idea.

How school keeps changing

School did not stop evolving. Books became lighter. Classrooms became smarter. Today, screens share space with chalk. Learning now happens online, at home, and in schools together. The heart of school remains the same. It exists to help children think, ask, and grow.Disclaimer: This article is written for learning and curiosity. It uses well-known historical records and simplified explanations for children. Details may vary across cultures and time periods, and the topic continues to be studied by historians.

Lions fan files $100M lawsuit after DK Metcalf clash, denies racial slur claims

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Ryan Kennedy, a Michigan resident and self-described Detroit Lions fan, is taking legal action following a December altercation with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf at Ford Field.

Kennedy and his legal team held a news conference in Farmington Hills, Michigan, on Dec. 26. On Tuesday, attorneys representing Kennedy announced that a lawsuit had been filed in Wayne County Court. The lawsuit seeks $100 million in damages stemming from the Dec. 21 incident and names DK Metcalf, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ford Field, the Lions’ longtime home stadium.

Former NFL player Chad Johnson, Ford Field management and multiple media platforms were also listed in the lawsuit, alleging that they played a role in making “defamatory and life-altering statements” against Kennedy in the aftermath of the incident.

The filing outlines nine counts, including negligence against Ford Field and multiple defamation claims against Metcalf, Johnson and former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe’s Shay Shay Media.

During the first half of the Lions–Steelers game on Dec. 21, Metcalf appeared to take a swing at Kennedy, who was seated in the Ford Field stands. The NFL later disciplined Metcalf with a two-game suspension to close the regular season.

STEELERS MAKE MAJOR CONTRACT DECISION ON DK METCALF AFTER SUSPENSION

On an episode of Shay Shay Media’s “Nightcap” podcast released the day after the incident, co-host Chad Johnson said Metcalf told him Kennedy directed a racial slur at the Steelers receiver and used a derogatory term toward Metcalf’s mother.

Kennedy denied using any slurs at a December press conference, a claim reiterated in the lawsuit.

“The statements were false and reckless,” the lawsuit states. “Plaintiff Kennedy did not call Defendant Metcalf the ‘N-word’; did not call Defendant Metcalf’s mother a ‘c—‘; and did not ever use any racial slurs or hate speech whatsoever … Defendant Metcalf provided false information to Defendant Johnson about what Plaintiff Kennedy allegedly said, thereby instigating and authorizing the publication of the defamatory and reckless statements, which were intended to harm Plaintiff Kennedy.”

Kennedy is also taking legal action against the Steelers for the team’s alleged liability in the incident, while Metcalf is accused of committing assault and battery in the lawsuit. The claims against Ford Field management are also based on liability.

“Defendant Ford Field Management, LLC breached its duty by failing to establish or enforce adequate barriers, protocols, or security measures to prevent players from reaching into the stands and making physical contact with patrons,” the lawsuit reads.

Fox News Digital contacted the Lions requesting comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Metcalf recorded 850 receiving yards in his first season with the Steelers.

Nelson’s son-in-law Brooklyn released a bombshell statement last week

Nicola Peltz’s billionaire father, Nelson, has weighed in on the Beckham feud.

Nelson’s son-in-law Brooklyn, 26, released a bombshell statement last week in which he criticised his parents, Sir David 51, and Lady Victoria Beckham 50, and accused them of mistreating his wife, 30.

Now, the business magnate, 83, who was previously reported to give his daughter $1 million a-month allowance spoke about the family drama during a Q and A at WSJD’s Invest Live in West Beach event on Tuesday.

Nelson said: ‘My daughter and the Beckhams are a whole other story and that’s not for coverage here today. But I’ll tell you my daughter is great, my son-in-law Brooklyn is great and I look forward to them having a long, happy marriage together.’

Nelson was also asked if he gave the couple advice in how to navigate a difficult situation.

He replied: ‘I do. Sometimes they give me advice.’

For context, Nicola’s father is a businessman with an estimated net worth of $1.6billion, compared with the Beckhams’ reported $680million.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn’s family have maintained silence since the aspiring chef penned his frustrations about his parents, sharing his reasons for cutting ties with them.

Brooklyn’s parents Sir David and Victoria and his siblings Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, instead put on their own show of unity at Haute Couture Fashion Week last week.

Katie also wishes for her children to participate on her big day

Katie Price is said to be thoroughly enjoying her new marriage as she looks forward to fresh beginnings.

The former model, 47, shocked the showbiz world when she announced her fourth marriage to entrepreneur Lee Andrews, just days after her split from reality star JJ Slater, 32.

The wedding reportedly took place only days after the engagement, with sources claiming that even her family were unaware of the star’s new relationship with ‘businessman’ Lee, 43.

After it emerged the nuptials might not be legally binding, Lee, 43, hit back, saying, ‘Myself and Katie are legally married.’

He added, ‘We’ve had the most wonderful wedding. We are married. It’s official and I’m the happiest man in the world.’

Last week a source told new Katie, 47, is now planning a wedding extravaganza here in the UK to ‘prove to her family it’s real love. She wants the big dress, the bridesmaids, flower girls, huge bouquet, the works, the source claimed.

‘She wants it to be as big as her wedding to Peter Andre, a complete spectacle.’

Katie also wishes for her children to participate on her big day.

‘She’d love to have Princess as one of her bridesmaids, and maybe Junior or Harvey to give her away,’ the source said.

It comes after reports that Katie Price’s son Junior is reportedly annoyed by his mother’s ongoing dramas and wants no part in it,’ following her shotgun marriage to businessman Lee Andrews.

Chris Hemsworth shares how father

Chris Hemsworth opened up about how his dad’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis made him understand the “fragility” of life.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Thor star shared that after Craig’s health scare, he has slowed down in life.

My appetite for racing forward has really been reined in,” Chris noted. “I’m getting better at relaxing, making more curated decisions, working with people I admire.”

The thought, “My dad won’t be here forever,” has made him “more aware of the fragility of things” and to cherish every moment.

It has even shifted his parenting. “My kids are now 11 and 13. Those nights where they’d fight over sleeping in our bed — suddenly they’re not happening anymore,” Chris, who shares three kids with wife Elsa Pataky, said.

Now Chris is reassessing his definition of success.

The Crime 101 star explained, “I used to think maybe if I was nominated for something, I’d feel good about myself. Or maybe if I had the biggest film of all time, or launched another franchise, then I’d feel fulfilled.”

“It’s absurd. My self-worth doesn’t rest upon all of those exterior things anymore – though I still have to remind myself,” he added.
