NBC host Savannah Guthrie’s mother taken from home as expert raises alarming new theories amid lack of leads

Arizona officials are providing few updates on the disappearance of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother after she vanished from her home over the weekend in an apparent abduction.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Tucson residence at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. While the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have not been elaborated upon, Sheriff Chris Nanos said on Monday that “we do, in fact, have a crime.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Nanos offered sparse information regarding the search for Nancy Guthrie.

“We don’t know where she is,” Nanos said, adding investigators are starting from the point where Nancy Guthrie was last seen and fanning out from there.

Nanos previously said Nancy Guthrie did not leave the home by herself, pointing to her limited mobility and a health condition that could prove to be fatal if the necessary medication was not taken within 24 hours.

Additionally, blood was later found inside Nancy Guthrie’s home, according to the Los Angeles Times. A law enforcement source told Fox News Digital that there were “blood drops” leading from the entryway outside down the house’s pathway towards the driveway.

When asked about the blood on Tuesday, however, Nanos told reporters that evidence from inside the house was still being tested and nothing found had pointed to a suspect. Investigators also found signs of forced entry into the home.

“I’m not saying there’s blood inside that house or outside that house,” Nanos said while declining to elaborate on what evidence was collected from the home.

Tuesday’s press conference ended with more questions than answers about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, a development that is concerning to experts who emphasize that the public can be one of law enforcement’s most valuable tools in finding missing persons.

“It’s really unfortunate that very little has been provided to the public,” Callahan Walsh, “America’s Most Wanted” co-host, told Fox News Digital. “I was hoping at this press conference that something would be released – a break in the investigation, a direction that they’re headed, some hope for the family or actionable information for the public to assist. There just wasn’t any of that. It was mostly questions that were being asked by the media, and pretty vague or no answers provided.”

During Tuesday’s press conference, Nanos did not offer a clear answer when asked if Nancy Guthrie had been targeted due to her daughter’s fame.

“We’re looking at all the leads, and we don’t know,” Nanos said. “We’re going to assume both sides of that.”

The possibility is one that Walsh believes is not entirely unfounded.

“It’s very possible that she was targeted because of who her daughter is,” Walsh said. “Her daughter’s a high-profile television personality on the ‘Today’ show somebody that people see in their homes and on their television screens regularly. There absolutely could be somebody out there that has a grudge against Savannah and has taken it out on her mother, and let’s hope that’s not the case.”

AUTHORITIES ‘AWARE’ OF REPORTS OF POSSIBLE RANSOM NOTE IN NANCY GUTHRIE DISAPPEARANCE

During an interview on MSNOW on Tuesday, Nanos said Nancy Guthrie was “physically removed from that home against her will,” but declined to say whether she was harmed. The sheriff also said it’s unknown if the individual who took Nancy Guthrie is familiar or a stranger.

Nancy Guthrie’s cell phone, Apple Watch, wallet and car keys were also found inside the home following her disappearance.

Walsh points to several key details that could indicate whether the kidnapper was known to Nancy Guthrie, given the current publicized facts surrounding her disappearance and the fact that she was taken from the home.

“That could indicate she was compliant,” Walsh told Fox News Digital. “And that means either she possibly knew the abductor, or that the abductor used some sort of threatening tactic – a weapon of some sort that brought her into compliance, and she thought she was safer going with them.”

MOM OF NBC’S SAVANNAH GUTHRIE REPORTED MISSING IN ARIZONA, SHERIFF SAYS THERE IS A ‘CRIME’

Shortly after Tuesday’s press conference, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department revealed it is “aware” of reports of an alleged ransom note after TMZ reportedly received written correspondence demanding a “substantial amount” of money in exchange for Guthrie’s return.

“We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie,” the officials wrote in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

“Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI,” officials wrote.

As officials continue to investigate and search for Nancy Guthrie, Walsh emphasizes the important role the public can play in missing persons cases when every second counts.

“I think they really need to lean into the power of the public and harness whatever evidence, or share whatever information that they have so that the public can assist,” Walsh said, adding, “My biggest hope is that once they do start finding information that the public can assist with, that they release that information and that information can acted upon.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is providing a reward up to $2,500 for information relating to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

People with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are asked to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.

Tyran Stokes headlines McDonald's All American boys' roster

Top-ranked senior Tyran Stokes headlines the boys’ roster for the 49th annual McDonald’s All American game, which features a deep mix of blue-chip talent and several uncommitted five-stars from the 2026 SC Next 100 class.

The rosters, announced Monday on ESPN’s “NBA Today,” include 17 of the top 20 prospects.

Five of the top seven players in the game remain uncommitted, led by Stokes, who is in the midst of a dominant senior season at Rainier Beach High School (WA). The group also includes Jordan Smith Jr. (No. 3), Caleb Holt (No. 5), Bruce Branch III (No. 6) and Christian Collins (No. 8).

Duke is one of three schools with multiple commits represented, led by No. 2 prospect Cameron Williams, a 6-foot-11 forward. The Blue Devils also landed five-star Deron Rippey Jr. (No. 16) and continue to pursue Smith, who will play alongside Rippey on the East roster. Stokes and Williams, the top two players in the class, are teammates on the West roster.

Missouri and USC each have a pair of commits represented in the game. Jason Crowe Jr. (No. 4) and Toni Bryant (No. 14) are pledged to the Tigers, while USC signed both Adonis and Darius Ratliff. Their father, Theo Ratliff, played parts of 16 seasons in the NBA. They are not the only NBA legacies set to take part in the game, either. Jason Richardson’s son, Jaxon, was named to the East roster. The Ratliff brothers are joined by high school teammate Jasiah Jervis, giving Archbishop Stepinac (NY) three McDonald’s All Americans — the most of any high school.

The 2026 game could again feature a future No. 1 NBA draft pick. The McDonald’s All American game has produced 33 top overall selections, including Cooper Flagg in 2025. The top three players in the 2025 class, AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer, all played in last year’s game, with Peterson and Boozer sharing MVP honors.

The McDonald’s All American boys’ game will take place in Glendale, Arizona, on March 31, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN at the Desert Diamond Arena. ESPN 2 will also air the Sprite Jam Fest, a dunk contest featuring All Americans, on March 30, at 9:30 p.m. ET.

World Cancer Day 2026: Why non-smokers, women and young Indians are increasingly being diagnosed with Lung Cancer

World Cancer Day 2026: Why non-smokers, women and young Indians are increasingly being diagnosed with Lung Cancer

World Cancer Day 2026, observed on February 4, serves as a powerful reminder of one of the biggest health challenges facing India and the world. Cancer is no longer a disease limited to old age, and doctors across India are raising red flags over its alarming rise among younger adults. OPDs are increasingly seeing patients in their 30s and early 40s with cancers once considered age-related.

Dr Dewesh Kishan, Consultant, Medical Oncology, Yatharth Hospital 110 Unit, says, “In recent years, the most common cancers that people have gone to OPDs for are lung cancer, oral cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and other solid tumors. There is a clear increase among younger patients, notably those aged 30 to 45. Before, most cases were seen in those over 50, but now about 15 to 18 percent of people with cancer are under 40. More and more women are getting breast cancer in their early 30s. In fact, men are getting oral and colorectal cancers even when they are 35 to 45 years old. This change is worrying and shows how important it is to get screened early.”

Some less spoken elements, outside lifestyle are:

1. A lot of stress and long hours at work

2. Pollution of the environment and bad air quality

3. Hormonal imbalance and delayed pregnancies

4. Family history and genetic risk, which many people still don’t know about; not getting regular health check-ups is also a big problem.

Dr Rajat Bajaj, Director, Medical Oncology, Fortis, Noida, says, “Cancer is now occurring in younger age groups as well. 30% of breast cancer is now found in people under 40 years of age. This is more aggressive and likely worse outcome. Prostate cancer in males is also found in the sixth decade in Indian males, 10 years earlier than their Western counterparts.” Talking about causes, he said, “Genetic causes have always played a role in 10 to 20% cancer cases. Addiction to tobacco, pollution in urban cities, and unawareness about screening are very important contributing causes of rising cancer cases.”

Talking about Cancer myths, he said, Cancer is still considered a communicable disease in society, which is an absolute myth. Some people believe doing a biopsy will lead to the spread of cancer cells in the body, but it’s far from true. Also, sugar and wheat don’t lead to the growth of cancer cells, instead they provide essential nutrition to the patient.

Dr Abhishek Raj, HOD & Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, Yatharth Hospital, Noida Extension, says, “The incidence of cancer in India has been towards more younger patients getting afflicted with various cancer subtypes for the last 2-3 decades. This situation is even more alarming in the last 10 years, where we have seen a lot of younger cases being diagnosed with cancer. It is partly related to changing lifestyle, like early onset of smoking and alcohol intake among youths, prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome, sedentary lifestyle, and pollution.”

Dr Abhishek Raj highlighted a case study. He said, “A lady visited me just 2 months after delivering her baby. She felt a lump in her breast. She discussed this with her family members, who suggested that breast lump formation is common in the postpartum period and that it is probably due to lactation. She was not convinced and decided to come for a checkup. An ultrasonography of her breast revealed a suspicious lump, which was biopsied, and it was diagnosed to be triple-negative breast cancer, which is often a very aggressive variant of cancer.”

“Due to the lady’s early readiness to seek medical help, thankfully, the lump was located only in her breast and not spread elsewhere. After a few rounds of chemotherapy, she underwent surgery and radiation, and she was cured of her cancer. If she had delayed seeking medical help, the results and outcomes would have been different.”

India will take on England in Friday’s ICC U19 World Cup final after a dominant seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the second semi-final at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe, on Wednesday.

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan registered a formidable total of 310-4 in 50 overs, courtesy of centuries from Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai, who shared a 148-run partnership for the third wicket.

Shinozada remained the top-scorer with a 93-ball 110, laced with 15 fours, while Niazai made an unbeaten 101 off 86 deliveries, hitting 12 fours and two sixes.

The duo was provided a decent platform by openers Osman Sadat and Khalid Ahmadzai, who made 39 and 31, respectively.

For India, Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chohan bagged two wickets each.

Set to chase a daunting 311-run target, the former champions comfortably amassed the total for the loss of just three wickets and 53 balls to spare.

Leading the way for India was opener Aaron George, who top-scored with a blazing century, making 115 off 104 deliveries, studded with 15 fours and two sixes.

His opening partner, Vaibhav Sooriyavanshi, however, gave India a flamboyant start with a swashbuckling 68 off 33 deliveries, smashing nine fours and four sixes.

Captain Ayush Mhatre played an anchoring role after Sooriyvanshi’s dismissal with a 59-ball 62, featuring five fours and four sixes, until falling victim to Nooristani Omarzai in the 27th over.

Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, taking two wickets for 64 runs in his 10 overs, while Wahidullah Zadran could claim one.

Could humans live to be 150 years old? Geneticist shares why it may be possible

Could humans live to be 150 years old? Geneticist shares why it may be possible

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Humans are already living longer than in past generations, according to global statistics.

In the U.S., life expectancy rose to 79 years in 2024, marking an all-time high, according to CDC data, with 2025 lifespan numbers expected to improve further.

This is likely the result of a decline in deaths from COVID, unintentional injuries like drug overdoses, heart disease and cancer, the data suggests.

SCIENTISTS REVEAL THE ONE PRACTICE THAT COULD PREVENT DEMENTIA AS YOU AGE

If this trend continues, one geneticist predicts that humans could someday live as long as 150 years, based on growing research in biological aging and rejuvenation.

Dr. Steve Horvath, a principal investigator at the Altos Labs Cambridge Institute of Science in the U.K., made the prediction in a feature with Time, although he did not offer a timeline on when it might occur.

“150 is a very fashionable number now,” the doctor said. “I have no doubt it will happen. No question.”

One geneticist said he has “no doubt” that humans will live to be 150 years old in the future. (iStock)

Measuring aging

As a longevity expert and former professor of human genetics and biostatistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, Horvath has devoted his research to understanding age-related biological markers in the body.

DICK VAN DYKE SAYS LIVING LONGER LINKED TO HIS LACK OF HATE AND ANGER

In the early 2010s, he created the first widely used “aging clock,” a method for estimating biological age by measuring molecular changes in cells, according to Time. While the clock incorporated saliva data, it proved reliable across multiple tissues, including blood, skin and other organs.

The aging expert later developed other biological aging clocks, including models shown in studies to be strong predictors of mortality risk.

“I felt we needed exact measurements of aging before we could really study it.” (iStock)

“I felt that it was important to develop [an aging] clock to advance scientific inquiry in the field of longevity,” he told Time. “I felt we needed exact measurements of aging before we could really study it, and then hopefully one day find interventions that can reverse aging.”

Pushing limits

While Horvath said he doesn’t think humans will ever live for 1,000 years, as he once hoped as a child, he shared his optimism for “drastic extensions of lifespan” in the future.

“Imagine we have 100 more years of biomedical innovations — what will that do for health?” he asked. “Of course, we would expect major breakthroughs.”

“So, in an abstract sense … if we can avoid wars and pandemics, I think our species at some point will find ways to extend lifespan drastically.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Horvath and Altos Labs for comment.

“I think our species at some point will find ways to extend lifespan drastically,” the longevity expert predicted. (iStock)

Quality matters

Dr. Eve Henry, chief medical officer at the personalized health platform Hundred Health, told Fox News Digital that Horvath’s prediction is “not an impossible take,” adding that the research is “very optimistic.”

“The research is correct. The first step in this process is to accurately measure biological age and the speed of aging in real time,” said the California-based doctor.

“This will allow us to test interventions for improved longevity quickly, rather than set up aging experiments that would take decades to complete,” she went on. “In science, once you can truly measure something, it gives you new power to study it.”

However, achieving longevity to the degree that Horvath suggests would require “game-changing intervention that resets a lot of our physiology,” according to Henry.

“While I haven’t seen that intervention yet, I’m excited to be alive in an era when this kind of research is possible.”

Humans living 50 to 70 years longer would involve risks dependent on quality of life, one doctor noted. (iStock)

‘Only time can tell’

Henry noted that if humans do eventually live 50 to 70 years longer, the risks would largely depend on the quality of life made possible by available interventions.

“There’s a key difference in living 50 to 70 years longer if independence can be sustained with the longevity tools and care available, compared to the idea of even living 10 years beyond the average life span today, which requires extensive health and community assistance,” she said.

“This research is certainly promising, but the reality is that only time can tell what the future of human lifespan could really look like.”

US weapons left in Afghanistan are being used by terrorists in Pakistan, CNN - SUCH TV

The American broadcasting company CNN has said that US weapons left in Afghanistan are being used for terrorism in Pakistan. According to a CNN report, US weapons have become a major obstacle in counter-terrorism operations. TTP and BLA terrorists are using US-made rifles, machine guns and sniper weapons. The report says that the availability of US weapons has significantly increased the nature and intensity of terrorist attacks. According to SIGAR chief John Sopko, 300,000 US weapons were left in Afghanistan at the time of withdrawal, and modern weapons left by the US in Afghanistan were used during terrorist attacks in South Waziristan and Balochistan.

It should be noted that the Pakistani government has repeatedly provided clear evidence to the Afghan government and the international community that Afghan soil is being used against Pakistan and that TTP militants are using modern weapons left by the US in Afghanistan.

Discover how simplicity is shaping the way we eat

(Swiss Butter)

As dining habits evolve in 2026, one of the strongest shifts is away from novelty and towards focus. Diners appear increasingly willing to trade variety for certainty, favouring restaurants that commit to doing one thing well rather than many things adequately. Swiss Butter reflects this change. Built around a single dish – steak frites served with a proprietary butter-based sauce – the restaurant has resisted menu expansion and seasonal reinvention.

The experience is intentionally narrow, prioritising consistency and repeatability over surprise. That clarity has translated into demand. From the Middle East to Europe and the UK, Swiss Butter has drawn crowds since day one, driven by word of mouth rather than hype. If you want to understand why simplicity is trending again, there is only one way to do it.

NatWest has pledged to lend £10 billion to the UK’s social housing sector by the end of 2028, after reaching a previous funding target a year early.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said loans from the bank will help build thousands of affordable homes for “families priced out of homeownership”.

The bank said its funding will be channelled towards housing associations for the building of new homes, upgrading existing properties and improving living conditions.

Some of the lending will also help fund energy efficiency and environmental improvements, including retrofit projects.

Social housing is offered through housing associations or the local council, typically to low-income households or people needing additional support.

The new funding goal comes after NatWest said it had met a previous £7.5 billion target a year ahead of schedule, having been earmarked for 2024 to 2026.

NatWest said its total funding into the social housing sector, through commercial loans and capital market support, has topped £25 billion since 2018.

Paul Thwaite, chief executive of NatWest Group, said reaching its prior goal ahead of schedule “shows the demand in the market” for social homes.

Ms Reeves said: “This Government is backing a step change in affordable housing to end the housing crisis, with £39 billion for a new social and affordable homes programme and 10-year rent certainty for the sector.

“NatWest’s investment will be vital in helping housing associations deliver thousands of affordable homes for families priced out of home ownership, building an economy that works for and rewards working people.”

The Chinese government has condemned a ruling from Panama’s top court, warning the Central American country “will inevitably pay a heavy price” unless it changes course.

The rebuke comes shortly after Panama’s Supreme Court ruled to void Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison‘s licence to operate ports at either end of the Panama Canal.

The ruling was seen as a major victory for the Trump administration’s security ambitions in the Western Hemisphere, given that the White House has made blocking China’s influence over the critically important waterway one of its top priorities.

In a commentary posted on Tuesday on its WeChat account, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council said the “logically flawed” and “utterly ridiculous” ruling was opposed by the Chinese government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

“The Panamanian authorities should recognize the situation and correct their course,” the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office said, according to a Google translation.

“If they persist in their own way and remain obstinate, they will inevitably pay a heavy price in terms of politics and economics!”

In a brief statement on Jan. 29, Panama’s top court said the terms under which Panama Ports Company (PPC), a subsidiary of CK Hutchison, runs the port of Balboa on the Pacific Coast and Cristóbal on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal violated its constitution.

The ruling came around a year after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to seize control of the Panama Canal, saying the waterway was “vital to our country” and claiming, “it’s being operated by China.”

‘Extensive damages’

The comments from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office reflect an escalation in tone from China’s initial response to the ruling.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the decision was “contrary to the laws governing Panama’s approval of the relevant franchises, and that the companies will reserve all rights, including legal proceedings.”

Beijing said it would take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

PPC, which has held the contract to operate the ports of Balboa and Cristóbal since the 1990s, also said that the decision was inconsistent with the relevant legal framework.

CK Hutchison, for its part, said on Wednesday that it had launched international arbitration proceedings against Panama after the country annulled its licenses to operate two Panama Canal ports.

In a statement, the company said PPC would seek “extensive damages” over the ruling, without specifying the damages sought.

Shares of CK Hutchison were up over 2% on Wednesday. The stock has climbed more than 23% so far this year.

Pakistan took ‘very considered’ stance on T20 World Cup, should fully stand by Bangladesh: PM Shehbaz | The Express Tribune

Says there should be no politics in the sportsfield, adds Pakistan played full role amid Iran’s situation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif defended Pakistan’s decision to not play its match against India in the T20 World Cup as one taken after great deliberation and said the country should fully stand by Bangladesh in the matter.

Pakistan came close to withdrawing from the tournament in solidarity with Bangladesh, who pulled out after refusing to play in India, citing security concerns. The government eventually cleared the team’s participation but it barred them from facing India in Colombo in a blockbuster clash on February 15.

Addressing the cabinet, the premier said while taling on Pakistan’s decision: “We have taken a very clear stand on the T20 World Cup that we won’t play the match against India because Pakistan said this a field of sports, not politics. There should be no politics on the sportsfield. We have taken a very considered stance and we should completely stand by Bangladesh and I think this is a very appropriate decision.”

The decision was taken following a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and PM Shehbaz.

The development came amid a broader Bangladesh controversy, which has already cast a shadow over the tournament. Bangladesh were removed from the T20 World Cup 2026 and replaced by Scotland in the tournament, a decision that triggered criticism from several quarters, including Pakistan, over what was described as inconsistent treatment by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Bangladesh’s replacement — following disputes related to hosting arrangements, security concerns and scheduling under the hybrid model involving India and Sri Lanka — intensified debate over governance and fairness in international cricket, with Pakistan openly expressing solidarity with Bangladesh earlier in the row.

The T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, is now facing renewed uncertainty as political considerations intersect with cricketing commitments. A Pakistan–India clash is traditionally the tournament’s biggest commercial draw, and Pakistan’s refusal could force the ICC to revisit scheduling or points-allocation scenarios.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign begins against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo, followed by matches against the United States on February 10 and Namibia on February 18.

Despite opting out of the India match, Pakistan’s participation in the rest of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 signals a calibrated approach rather than a full boycott, following days of speculation linked to the Bangladesh issue and regional tensions.

The ICC has called on the PCB to find a mutually acceptable solution after Pakistan announced it would boycott its match against India in the main event.

Pakistan’s spin-heavy squad are in winning form ahead of the T20 World Cup, but the controversial decision to forfeit their marquee clash against India could still trigger another early exit.

With two points for a win, a forfeit of the match will leave Pakistan with no margin for error if they are to progress as one of the top two from a five-team Group A.

It means they must win their opening game against the Netherlands in Colombo on Saturday and beat the United States three days later to stay in contention.

Their final group game will be against Namibia on February 18.

Pakistan will be keen to avoid a repeat of the last T20 World Cup in 2024, where a shock super over defeat to co-hosts the United States led to them failing to get out of the group.

The side has since faced criticism for failing to adapt to the modern demands of T20 cricket, with the batting, particularly Babar Azam’s low strike rate, under scrutiny.

The criticism was fuelled by Pakistan’s record last year, where 21 of their 34 T20 international wins came against lower-ranked opponents.

Balochistan attacks

Referring to the events since Saturday’s attacks across multiple locations in Balochistan, the premier said 180 terrorists “were sent to hell” while 17 security personnel were martyred and 31 civilians lost their lives.

“You saw what a distressing event occurred in Gwadar that they martyred five women and children. They are so stonehearted — they are not at all human.”

The premier said the nation would always remember the sacrifices of the martyrs, adding that it was the state’s responsibility to look after their heirs.

He said it must be borne in mind that since Pakistan had achieved victory in its May 2025 conflict against India, “our eastern neighbour — our foe — and other khwarij want to become a thorn in Pakistan’s happiness and prosperity but God willing this won’t happen and this terrorism will be completely eliminated.”

The premier said it must be remembered how labourers who had gone to Balochistan to earn their living and small children and women were killed, calling it a painful moment that had sent the entire nation into mourning.

“But similarly, the nation is completely standing as an iron-laden wall with its law enforcement agencies and army. There will come a day when these sacrifices will bear fruit and terrorism will be eliminated forever from the country.”

Iran and US tensions

Referring to the recent situation with Iran as the country’s tensions with the United States escalate, the prime minister said Pakistan had played its full role in the matter. He said that he, the deputy prime minister and the field marshal had contacted and consulted with the Iranian leadership at different points.

“We played our full role as a brother that could have been played. In this, the role of Qatar, Egypt, Oman, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and all Islamic countries were also involved and the entire effort is that a way comes out through talks which ends the threats looming in the region and peace is established.”

The premier also said that the entire country from Peshawar to Karachi would express solidarity with Kashmiris on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day with the day observed in various ways in multiple cities.

He said he would go to Azad Jammu and Kashmir himself to deliver a “message from the whole nation of solidarity”.

Meeting with K-P CM Sohail Afridi

PM Shehbaz also talked about his meeting with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday, adding that they had a “very good” discussion.

Reiterating his past offer of support to the chief minister, PM Shehbaz said he told CM Afridi: “You are the chief minister of a very beautiful and important province where the people are very great Pakistanis and they’re brave and courageous who have given many sacrifices. In that regard, we kept one per cent for in the 2010 National Finance Commission (NFC) award before the divisible pool so you could look after terrorism-related matters.”

He said the chief minister was told that Rs800 billion had been given to K-P over the years under the NFC. PM Shehbaz added that CM Afridi reassured him of the completion of the Safe City project.

The premier said the chief minister made mention of some delayed payments to the province, adding that he immediately tasked Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the finance minister and secretary to hold a meeting and eliminate whatever payment gaps were there.

“In summation, it was a good meeting with him and there should be hope that the matter will move forward.”

The prime minister also mentioned his engagements with the Kazakh president today, hailing them as taking place in a very positive and warm atmosphere. He praised the Kazakh president for delivering his point of view and affiriming his friendship and commitment with Pakistan.

“He publicly invited me to visit Kazakhstan and due to that, we have made a working group today in which we will make a five-year plan that will include strategic, trade, investment [and more]. They’re excelling in AI and IT.”

PM Shehbaz expressed optimism for rapid progress in financial ties with Kazakhstan. He also said that the Uzbek president was arriving tomorrow, saying he was hoping that the trip would prove to be a fulfilling one for advancing bilateral relations.
