Top NHL prospect Gavin McKenna charged with assault

Penn State forward Gavin McKenna, the consensus first overall pick in this June’s NHL draft, has been charged with felony aggravated assault and other counts, according to Pennsylvania Magisterial District Court documents.

McKenna, an 18-year-old native of Canada, was charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, which is defined as “attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference”; misdemeanor simple assault; and two summary counts of disorderly conduct for harassment and engaging in a fight.

The maximum penalty for first-degree felony aggravated assault in Pennsylvania is 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine.

According to the State College Police Department, McKenna’s charges are the result of an altercation that occurred in State College at about 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 31. Police said McKenna allegedly struck a 21-year-old male in the face, resulting in facial injuries that required surgery.

McKenna was arraigned on the charges and released on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for Feb. 11 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

The alleged incidents happened on the same day that an NCAA outdoor hockey game at Penn State’s Beaver Stadium drew 74,575 fans. The Nittany Lions lost to Michigan State 5-4 in overtime. McKenna had a goal and two assists. He has 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 24 games with Penn State this season.

NHL Central Scouting ranks McKenna first among all North American skaters. The NHL told ESPN it is aware of the charges against McKenna but offered no comment, as he’s not currently a player in the league.

Penn State issued a statement saying it was aware of the charges.

“We are aware that charges have been filed; however, as this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not have any further comment,” the statement said.

McKenna stunned the hockey world last year by opting to leave Canadian junior hockey for Penn State’s men’s hockey program. In 2024, the NCAA ruled that Canadian junior players were now eligible to play on Division I teams, ending a decades-old policy that made young athletes choose between the Canadian Hockey League and college hockey.

McKenna was one of the first Canadian junior players to make the jump to the NCAA. His NIL money for attending Penn State is “in the ballpark” of $700,000, a source told ESPN at the time.

Venezuelan official Alex Saab, a former businessman and close ally of captured former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, was arrested in the Latin American country on Wednesday as part of a joint operation between the U.S. and Venezuela, according to a U.S. law enforcement official.

Saab, 54, who had previously been held in the U.S., is expected to be extradited to the U.S. in the coming days, the U.S. official told Reuters.

A lawyer for Saab, Luigi Giuliano, was cited in the Colombian newspaper El Espectador later on Wednesday, denying the arrest as “fake news.” Journalists aligned with Venezuela’s government also made social media posts denying that Saab had been arrested.

Giuliano told Venezuelan news site TalCual that Saab may make an appearance to refute the arrest allegations himself but was consulting with the government about what had happened.

Venezuela’s top lawmaker, Jorge Rodríguez, did not confirm or deny the reports during a press conference, saying he had no information concerning the possible arrest.

This comes after the U.S. operation to attack Venezuela and arrest Maduro, and the Trump administration’s subsequent seizing of oil tankers from the country.

Saab’s arrest would suggest a new level of collaboration between U.S. and Venezuelan authorities under the government of interim President Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s former deputy, who currently controls Venezuela’s law enforcement agencies and actions.

The U.S. official highlighted the significance of Rodriguez’s cooperation in the joint operation.

Raul Gorrin, the head of Venezuela’s Globovision TV network, was also arrested in the operation, the official said.

Saab, who was born in Colombia, was previously detained in the African nation of Cape Verde in 2020 and held in the U.S. for more than three years on bribery charges. He was eventually granted clemency in exchange for the release of Americans held in Venezuela.

Before he was granted clemency, U.S. officials had charged Saab with taking around $350 million out of Venezuela through the U.S. as part of a bribery scheme connected to Venezuela’s state-controlled exchange rate.

Saab denied the allegations and appealed to have the charges dismissed on grounds of diplomatic immunity. An appeals court had not ruled on Saab’s appeal by the time the prisoner swap went through.

When he returned to Venezuela at the end of 2023, Maduro praised Saab’s loyalty to the country’s socialist revolution and called him a national hero.

Maduro later appointed Saab as industry minister, a position he held until last month, when he was dismissed by Rodriguez following the arrest of the country’s former leader.

Kit Harington is the father of two kids, whom he shares with wife Rose Leslie.

According to a new report by PEOPLE magazine, the Game of Thrones alum spoke with Mr Porter and reflected on how fatherhood arrived at the “right time” in his life, adding that he is grateful to come home and simply “be a dad.”

The actor told the outlet that after a long day of filming, seeing his son and daughter makes anything dark he endured on set fade away.

“Because Rose and I knew it was going to probably be quite a heavy season with this stuff, and Rose was working in Stratford doing a play, she said, ‘Okay, you take the kids while you’re filming in Cardiff,’” he said.

“So, when I’d come back from filming, where I’ve been doing God knows what, I’d walk in the door and the kids were there, and anything dark I’d had to deal with during the day was gone,” Harington continued.

“It was bizarre and it was great. I’d get home and be a dad.”

The devoted dad went on to share rare details about his children and his journey as a father.

“They’re both awake to the world and they’re kind,” he said, referring to his children.

“They are all I want from my children. I have been blessed with two who have both those attributes in spades.”

  • Kasim says trying to travel to Pakistan but being “denied visas”.
  • “Denying a prisoner treatment is cruel,” says Kasim.
  • Statement comes amid controversy over Imran’s health.

Jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s son Kasim Khan has alleged that he and his brother are trying to travel to Pakistan to see their father, but the government is deliberately refusing to process their visa applications.

In a statement issued on X, Kasim said Imran has been held in “solitary confinement” for 914 days, during which his health has deteriorated and he has been denied access to independent medical care.

He said denying medical treatment to a prisoner was “cruel” and preventing his children from seeing him amounted to collective punishment.

Kasim called on international human rights organisations and governments to speak out and act “before irreversible harm is done”.

The statement comes amid recent controversy surrounding Imran’s health.

He recently underwent an eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, where doctors confirmed that pressure in blood vessels had affected his vision. The PTI has accused the government of withholding details of his medical condition for several days.

It may be noted that Kasim and his brother Suleiman said in December 2025 that they had submitted visa applications and intended to visit Pakistan in January.

Imran’s sons have repeatedly claimed that their father is being held in a ‘death cell’ at Adiala Jail under what they described as “awful” conditions, with prolonged restrictions on communication. They have said that court-mandated contact has not been consistently allowed.

Meetings with the PTI founder have remained a point of contention between the party and the government. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has confirmed that a blanket ban on meetings with the incarcerated politician has been in place since December 2025.

Kasim publicly highlighted his father’s imprisonment for the first time in May 2025. In June 2025, he took to X to express concern over Imran’s condition in jail. In a separate post, he criticised the incumbent government over what he described as his father’s imprisonment and “torture”.

The sons later said they feared authorities were concealing “something irreversible” about their father’s condition after more than three weeks without evidence that he was still alive.

The family had also sought access for Imran’s personal physician, who they say has not been permitted to examine him for more than a year.

However, the Adiala jail administration clarified that Imran is being provided all facilities available to ‘B-Class’ prisoners under the law, including tailored meals, healthcare, reading materials, exercise and walks.

Imran, 72, has been in jail since August 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases, which he says are politically motivated following his removal from office through a parliamentary vote in 2022.

His first conviction was linked to allegations of unlawfully selling state gifts, commonly referred to as the Toshakhana case. Subsequent verdicts added lengthy prison sentences, including 10 years for leaking a diplomatic cable and 14 years in a graft case related to the Al-Qadir Trust. Prosecutors allege the charity was involved in improper land deals.

Imran remains incarcerated as legal proceedings continue, with his conviction in the Toshakhana-2 case marking the latest setback. He faces dozens of cases filed since 2022, ranging from corruption to anti-terrorism and state secrets charges. He has denied all allegations, which his party says are politically driven.

The PTI maintains that the prosecutions are aimed at excluding Imran Khan from public life and elections.

Josh Radnor welcomes first child with wife Jordana Jacobs

Josh Radnor and his wife, Jordana Jacobs, have welcomed their first baby together.

The How I Met Your Mother star announced the exciting news on his Instagram handle on February 4.

“So my wife and I had a baby a few months ago (!!),” Josh penned while sharing a series of photos of him and his wife with their newborn baby.

“Here’s what we know so far: His smile lights up the room,” the 51-year-old actor continued. “He’s super observant and thoughtful. He gets hypnotized when I play him songs on the guitar. He thinks the word ‘baba ghanoush’ is hysterical. He’s a total delight and Jordana and I are thrilled he’s here.”

Concluding the note, Josh penned, “Sending love to all my fellow parents of newborns out there. What a wild, beautiful, exhausting, heart-opening initiation. So grateful.”

In one of the shared images, Josh can be seen holding his baby close to his face, while another shows a little one resting on a guitar as the actor tunes it up.

For those unversed, Josh and Jordana exchanged vows in January 2024. Recently, in an interview with People magazine, the Hunters actor talked about his married life.

“It’s fantastic,” he said about his married life. “I love it. I love it.”

Trump to give Medal of Honor to 100-year-old pilot who secretly faced off with Soviet jets

Trump to give Medal of Honor to 100-year-old pilot who secretly faced off with Soviet jets

President Trump plans to award the Medal of Honor to a retired Navy captain whose daring faceoff with Soviet fighter jets remained secret for a half-century and a soldier who died in Afghanistan while protecting somebody from a suicide bomber.

Mr. Trump called Navy Capt. E. Royce Williams and the family of deceased Army Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis to inform them of the decision, a White House official told CBS News.

The Medal of Honor is the U.S.’s highest military award, with around 3,500 people receiving the medal since it was introduced during the Civil War.

Michael Ollis

One of the newest recipients is Ollis, who was killed in Afghanistan after physically shielding Polish Army Lt. Karol Cierpica from a suicide bomber.

The base in Afghanistan where Ollis was stationed was breached by a car bomb and a group of fighters wearing suicide vests on one day in 2013, according to the Army. Ollis discovered a wounded Cierpica after approaching the blast site and, while performing first aid on the Polish soldier, an insurgent approached them. Ollis then moved between the insurgent and Cierpica and died when the suicide vest detonated, the military has said.

Ollis, a Staten Island native, was given a Distinguished Service Cross in 2019, with Gen. James McConville saying at the time: “Every generation has its heroes … Michael Ollis is one of ours.”

Ollis’ parents, Bob and Linda Ollis, said they are “extremely grateful” in a statement by a nonprofit founded in their son’s honor.

“Knowing that Michael’s life, legacy and final act of courage have not been forgotten leaves us with a feeling of overwhelming pride and eternal gratitude,” the parents wrote.

E. Royce Williams

Another new medal recipient is 100-year-old Williams, who shot down four Soviet MiG-15 jets during a once-secret 35-minute confrontation that the military has described in the past as the “longest dogfight in U.S. military history.”

In 1952, during the Korean War, Williams and another American pilot encountered a group of seven Soviet jets while flying off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. The Soviets began firing, he said in the past, and “since they started the fight, I shot back.”

He hit one of the MiG-15s, and the other American plane followed it. Then, on his own, he shot another three Soviet planes, dodging hundreds of rounds of fire, according to descriptions of the fight that have been published by the U.S. military in recent years.

“In the moment I was a fighter pilot doing my job,” Williams told news outlet Task & Purpose in a 2022 interview. “I was only shooting what I had.”

After Williams’ plane was hit, he flew back to an American aircraft carrier and landed under high speed, later saying he felt the frigid conditions were too dangerous for him to eject himself.

Williams says he was told to keep secret the airborne U.S.-Soviet firefight, a rare military faceoff between two Cold War archrivals who sought to avoid direct war with each other. He didn’t discuss it with anybody for decades — including his wife.

The operation eventually became public in the decades following the fall of the Soviet Union. Williams was awarded the Navy Cross three years ago.

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa of California, whose San Diego-area district is home to Williams, has pushed for the retired Navy pilot to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Last year, lawmakers authorized the president to grant him the medal, overriding the usual requirement that Medal of Honor recipients get the award within five years of the act that justified it.

Issa wrote in a statement Wednesday that Williams “richly deserves” the recognition.

“The heroism and valor he demonstrated for more than 35 harrowing minutes almost 70 years ago in the skies over the North Pacific and the coast of North Korea unquestionably saved the lives of his fellow pilots, shipmates, and crew,” Issa wrote.

Man City brush aside Newcastle | The Express Tribune

MANCHESTER:

Manchester City will face Arsenal in the League Cup final after ending Newcastle’s reign as holders with a first-half blitz in their 3-1 victory on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side were already in pole position after winning the semi-final first leg on Tyneside in January and they finished the job in ruthless fashion at the Etihad Stadium.

Omar Marmoush struck twice in the first half of the second leg before Tijjani Reijnders put the result beyond doubt.

Anthony Elanga reduced the deficit after the interval, but City’s 5-1 aggregate win sent them back to the League Cup showpiece for the first time since 2021.

City’s final date with Arsenal is set for March 22 at Wembley after the Premier League leaders knocked out Chelsea on Tuesday.

Reaching the final was a welcome tonic for Guardiola following the frustration of blowing a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Sunday that delivered a major blow to their title challenge.

With a crucial trip to Liverpool looming this weekend, City trail Arsenal by six points in the Premier League title race.

The League Cup was the first silverware of Guardiola’s City reign when they beat Arsenal in the 2018 final, with current Gunners boss Mikel Arteta then working as the Spaniard’s assistant.

City went on to win the competition for the following three years, but haven’t lifted the League Cup since 2021.

“We will travel to London again, they will wait for us there. They never travel to the north (for finals) but I am really happy to be back. Five (League Cup) finals in 10 years is a big milestone,” Guardiola said.

“It will be good. You have to live this experience. The first title we won here was in the League Cup.

“When you win something, it helps to win more. It’s a pleasure to play against Arsenal, the best team right now in Europe and maybe the world.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe added: “Really annoyed with the first half display. We pride ourselves on being really organised and tactically we want to be able to handle any problem the opposition gives us.

“That first half we weren’t good enough individually and our duels were off and it gave us huge problems.”

Guardiola used sarcasm and statistics this week to defend City against claims the club’s success has been due to the financial muscle of their Abu Dhabi-based owners.

The City manager pointed out six English clubs have spent more than his side over the past five years, but he knows he will never win over the critics.

Slick City

Guardiola’s only way to silence the outside noise — and mounting suggestions that City are a team in decline — is with silverware.

And after finishing last season without a trophy for the first time in eight years, Guardiola would love to end City’s barren spell at Arsenal’s expense.

Marmoush put City ahead with a stroke of luck in the seventh minute.

He raced into the Newcastle penalty area and when Dan Burn made a last-ditch tackle, the ball bounced off the Egypt forward and looped into the net.

James Trafford preserved City’s lead, saving from Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon in quick succession.

Marmoush struck for the second time in the 29th minute, heading home from virtually on the goal-line after Kieran Trippier made a hash of clearing Antoine Semenyo’s cross.

That was the culmination of an incisive City counter-attack and they pulled Newcastle apart again with another rapid raid in the 32nd minute.

Reijnders led the break, picking out Semenyo and racing into the area to finish the Ghanaian’s return pass with a clinical low drive from 12 yards.

City barely got out of first gear in the second half and Elanga got one back in the 62nd minute, curling into the far corner after slaloming through the defence.

Kate Middleton brings vintage glam to Wales in a look that’s quietly iconic - The Times of India

Princess Kate Middleton captivated during her Wales visit, showcasing a vintage 1960s tapestry wool coat from Melin Tregwynt. Paired with Victoria Beckham trousers and N Peal knitwear, the ensemble highlighted local craftsmanship. Her understated elegance and nod to heritage pieces signal an exciting new chapter in her evolving style, drawing attention to Welsh artisans.

Kate Middleton’s recent Wales visit wasn’t just another royal appearance – it felt like a quiet fashion moment that lingered. At Melin Tregwynt, the legendary Welsh woollen mill in Castlemorris, and later at Hiut Denim, the Princess of Wales showed how thoughtful dressing can tell a story without trying too hard. Her outfit struck that sweet spot between old-world charm and modern ease, while also shining a light on local craft, something she’s become incredibly good at over the years. The real show-stealer was her coat. A rare vintage piece from the 1960s, made using Melin Tregwynt’s own tapestry wool, it carried rich rusty-red tones and beautiful woven detailing. The coat felt rooted in history, yet somehow fresh. Wearing a piece that was literally born in the place she was visiting made the look feel personal, almost poetic. It wasn’t loud or showy – just quietly powerful, the kind of fashion that makes you pause and take notes.

Screenshot 2026-02-05 100222

She kept the rest of the outfit clean and modern so the coat could shine. Kate paired it with Victoria Beckham’s Alina wide-leg trousers in a deep olive green. The cut was sharp yet relaxed, giving her that tall, elegant line she carries so well. A dark green roll-neck jumper from N Peal London added warmth without cluttering the look. Everything stayed in the same earthy colour family, which made the whole outfit feel calm, cohesive, and very intentional.

Princess Kate Takes Full Control Of Her Fashion As Confidence Surges After Health Battle

Her accessories followed the same low-key luxury vibe. Chocolate-brown suede block heels from Emmy London grounded the look while still feeling polished enough for a public appearance. For jewellery, she chose garnet drop hoops from Welsh brand Spells of Love Jewellery – a subtle nod to supporting local designers without making it feel forced.Beauty-wise, Kate didn’t overdo a thing. Her makeup was soft and natural – warm-toned eyes, fresh skin, rosy cheeks, and just a hint of colour on the lips. Her hair was styled in her usual loose waves, half pinned back, giving her that familiar, confident finish that always works for her.

Screenshot 2026-02-05 100143

What’s interesting is how this look fits into Kate’s evolving style mood lately. There’s been a clear shift toward nostalgic silhouettes and heritage-inspired pieces – baker boy hats, military-style jackets, even the occasional braid – all while keeping things royal-appropriate. Fashion is in its throwback era right now, and Kate seems to be leaning into it in her own understated way.During her visit, she first stopped by Melin Tregwynt, known for its traditional Welsh weaving techniques, before heading to Hiut Denim, the family-run brand in Cardigan. While her outfit initially looked like a coordinated set in shades of green, a closer look revealed thoughtful layering instead — wide-leg trousers from Victoria Beckham, a dark green cashmere turtleneck from N Peal London, and those trusty Emmy London pumps tying it all together. The Spells of Love earrings added a final local touch. But the coat stole the spotlight once again. The custom piece was made using Melin Tregwynt’s ‘Vintage Rose’ pattern – a print that’s now getting fresh attention thanks to Kate. You can even find similar versions of the fabric across different silhouettes at vintage stores like Banana Orange Vintage. And that hint of warm orange? It’s rare territory for Kate, which makes this phase of her style feel more playful and fashion-aware than ever.If this is the Princess of Wales entering a new fashion chapter, it’s a pretty exciting one to watch.

Pakistan must create 30 million jobs in a decade, World Bank president says | The Express Tribune

Ajay Banga says employment growth is vital to turn demographic pressure into dividend

KARACHI:

Pakistan must create up to 30 million jobs over the next decade to turn its youth bulge into an economic dividend or risk instability and outward migration, World Bank President Ajay Banga said in an interview with Reuters.

Pakistan is entering the implementation phase of a 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) deal agreed with the World Bank last year, while also working with the International Monetary Fund to stabilise its economy. But Islamabad is still facing mounting pressure to deliver sustained growth and jobs.

Read: Ministry mum on UAE debt rollover

“We’re trying to move the bank group as a whole from the idea of projects to the idea of outcomes,” Banga told Reuters in Karachi during a visit this week to Pakistan.

“Job creation is the North Star.”

‘Generational challenge

Pakistan needs to generate 2.5 million to 3 million jobs a year – roughly 25 to 30 million over the next decade – as millions of young people come of age, Banga said. Failure to do so could fuel “illegal migration or domestic instability”.

Banga said Pakistan’s population dynamics mean employment creation will remain a binding constraint on growth over the long term, rather than a secondary policy goal.

“This is a generational challenge,” he said.

The CPF commits around $4 billion a year in combined public and private financing from the World Bank Group, with roughly half expected to come from private-sector operations led by the International Finance Corporation.

Banga said the reliance on private capital reflects a country where the government has limited spending capacity and 90% of jobs are created in the private sector.

Pakistan’s job strategy rests on three pillars, Banga said: investment in human and physical infrastructure, business-friendly regulatory reforms, and expanded access to financing and insurance, particularly for small firms and farmers that typically lack bank credit.

Infrastructure, primary healthcare, tourism and small-scale agriculture were labour-intensive sectors with the greatest employment potential, he said, adding that farming alone could account for about one-third of the jobs Pakistan needs to create by 2050.

A growing pool of freelancers also highlighted Pakistan’s appetite for entrepreneurship, but they need better access to capital, infrastructure and support to scale into job-creating businesses, he said.

The strain is readily visible in the exodus of skilled workers. Nearly 4,000 doctors emigrated from Pakistan in 2025, the highest annual outflow on record, according to Gallup Pakistan data based on Bureau of Emigration figures, underscoring concerns that weak job prospects and poor working conditions are pushing trained professionals abroad.

Power first

Fixing Pakistan’s power sector is the most urgent near-term priority, Banga said, noting that losses and inefficiencies in electricity distribution have limited growth despite improvements in generation capacity.

Pakistan’s power sector has long been plagued by growing debt from distribution losses, weak bill recovery and delayed government subsidies, which have strained public finances and discouraged private investment. The debt has been a recurring focus of IMF-backed reform programmes, with successive governments struggling to contain losses while keeping energy affordable.

Banga said progress on privatisation and private-sector participation in electricity distribution would be critical to improving efficiency, reducing losses and restoring the sector’s financial viability.

He said rapid rooftop solar adoption, while easing energy costs for households and businesses, risks creating grid instability if distribution reforms are not accelerated.

“Electricity is fundamental to everything – health, education, business and jobs.”

Climate by design

Banga said climate resilience should also be embedded into mainstream development spending rather than treated as a standalone agenda.

Pakistan is among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, hit repeatedly by floods, heatwaves and erratic monsoons.

Also read: Faisalabad maps 1,460 sewage ponds

Banga said climate-resilient investments should be integrated into infrastructure, housing, water management and agriculture to support jobs while reducing long-term risks.

“The moment you start thinking about climate as separate from housing, food or irrigation, you create a false debate. Just build resilience into what you’re already doing.”

Asked how Pakistan fits into the World Bank’s global portfolio, Banga said he does not view the country through labels such as fragility or crisis, but as a long-term job-creation opportunity.

“We’re in the business of hope,” he said.

Barry Manilow leaves fans ‘disappointed’ with major announcement

Barry Manilow left his fans disappointed on Wednesday as he postponed his Las Vegas shows ahead of his 2026 arena tour.

Taking to his Instagram handle on February 4, the 82-year-old singer announced that he is rescheduling his Feb. 12-21 Las Vegas concerts to focus on his health.

“I’m doing great and recovering very well after my surgery. I’ve been getting exercise and spending some time in the studio, which has been fantastic,” Barry penned.

He further wrote, “With my doctor’s guidance and recommendation, however, we have decided to postpone my residency dates at Westgate Las Vegas from February 12-21 so I can stay focused on healing and getting ready for the tour that’s kicking off at the end of February.”

“Having a few weeks to rest and prepare is what the doctor ordered!” added the Copacabana hitmaker.

Following the announcement, Barry’s fans rushed to the comments section to send well wishes to the singer.

“Get well soon,” penned one person.

“Take all the time you need. We will always be here for you! Continued prayers and hugs,” commented another one.

In December, Barry underwent surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his left lung.
