Increasing number of international travellers are planning trips to China to experience vibrant sights and sounds

BEIJING:

As the Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, draws near, a growing number of international travellers are planning their trips around this traditional celebration to immerse themselves in China’s vibrant culture and festive spirit. For Finn, a young Dutch student who wore a horse-head hat and took photos under a theme park’s golden wishing tree, his visit to Beijing shortly before the Spring Festival was great fun.”

The joyous atmosphere and diverse interactive activities here make me fully immersed and entertained,” he said. “I’ll definitely share this with my friends in the Netherlands, and I’d love to bring them here again to experience a different Chinese New Year.”

Finn’s horse-head hat is popular among young travelers in the park because 2026 is the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese zodiac. And the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 17, marks the first day of this Chinese New Year.Just like Finn, many international tourists are taking China as their destination recently. Data from major travel platforms shows a substantial rise in inbound tourism for the 2026 Spring Festival.

During the last two weeks of January, international flight bookings to China jumped more than 400 percent compared to the same period last year, led by tourists from Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore.Notably, China has seen a significant ninefold increase in the number of reservations made by tourists from Argentina during this year’s nine-day Spring Festival holiday, while bookings from European countries, including the Netherlands, Spain and Britain, more than doubled.”

Around one third of our room bookings during the coming holiday were made by foreign guests,” said a staff member of a hotel in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. He added that many of these foreigners opted for extended stays to fully embrace the Chinese festival, which led to almost complete occupancy.”Celebrating the Spring Festival in China is becoming a new global trend,” an analyst of the tourism industry said. “The uniqueness and immersive experience of Spring Festival traditions are emerging as core attractions for overseas visitors, injecting sustained momentum into the development of inbound tourism.”

The tourism boom is not limited to major cities; China’s diverse landscapes and culture have given rise to many unexpected destinations.

Recently, many Russian tourists have flowed into Hunchun, a small city of 200,000 people in northeastern China’s Jilin Province that shares a border with Russia, as diverse local activities have begun for the Chinese New Year celebrations.Varvara is among the visitors. During her trip, she plans to visit the New Year’s market, enjoy traditional festival food like dumplings, and take part in activities such as paper-cutting and hanging couplets.”I’m looking forward to all these activities. Learning about Chinese culture during China’s most important festival is a truly unique experience,” she said.

Daria, another tourist from Russia, was excited about having a traditional Hanfu photoshoot during her Spring Festival visit to a local ancient town. She said she believes that wearing the traditional attire would provide a deeper and more authentic immersion into the festival.Since the beginning of 2026, the Hunchun port between China and Russia has processed about 58,000 inbound and outbound passengers, including 44,000 foreign nationals, marking a year-on-year increase of 74.8 percent, according to local authorities.

According to industry insiders, the travel boom can also be attributed to the relaxed visa and travel facilitation policies. Data from the National Immigration Administration shows that in 2025, China expanded its unilateral visa-free entry to citizens of 48 countries, while the number of countries offering reciprocal visa exemptions rose to 29. US president had called singer’s Super Bowl performance ‘an affront to the greatness of America’

Jimmy Kimmel took aim at President Donald Trump after Trump’s scathing comments about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime performance, calling out the president’s critique as hypocritical and out of touch.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night, the late?night host responded to Trump’s social media posts in which the president labeled the performance “absolutely terrible” and “an affront to the greatness of America”, claiming the Spanish?language show made “no sense” and was inappropriate for children. Trump’s unusual public rebuke added fuel to an already heated cultural debate about this year’s halftime headliner.

Kimmel minced no words while defending Bad Bunny and mocking Trump’s critique. “Bad Bunny got a bad review from our bad president, unfortunately,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue, highlighting the irony of Trump, who has faced his own controversies, criticising the show’s content and entertainment value. He added, “This is a man who paid off a porn star who spanked him with his own face on a magazine,” illustrating his view that Trump’s moral criticism lacked credibility.

The host also took jabs at a conservative alternative halftime broadcast organized by Turning Point USA featuring Kid Rock and other artists, calling it a lesser effort compared with Bad Bunny’s widely viewed set. Kimmel suggested critics were more invested in staging political outrage than engaging with the cultural significance of a performance that celebrated Latino identity and unity across the Americas.

Comedian Jon Stewart echoed similar sentiments on The Daily Show, criticizing the backlash and calling the outrage over Bad Bunny’s performance “actually pathetic,” and contrasting it with Trump’s own actions and controversial remarks on other topics.

Trump’s critique has generated widespread discussion online.

Zayn Malik recalls why Gigi Hadid recently criticized him over parenting choice

Zayn Malik once landed in hot waters with Gigi Hadid after handing nearly $700 to their daughter Khai.

Malik spoke about the difference in his and Gigi’s parenting approaches during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

He recalled that the model “gave me s***” after he gave Khai the big sum when she lost a tooth.

“I think I gave her a bit too much money from the tooth fairy. I’m going to keep that one and frame it,” he said.

He went on to argue that he wants to make sure his daughter gets everything he didn’t have growing up, and also that he works hard and should be allowed to splurge on his Khai, especially as she’s his first kid.

“At the end of the day, I work my ass off and I should be able to give my kid what I want to give her,” said the Love Like This hitmaker.

However, he intends to give Khai $5 when she loses her second tooh, joking, “Tooth fairy’s gone broke now.”

He said that he should be given a break since it’s his first time as a parent.

“Give me a break, somebody, please,” he said before laughing.

“People, in general, obviously look at it a certain type of way,” he continued. “At the end of the day, I was lucky if I got anything for my teeth. I’ve worked really hard for everything I’ve earned, so I don’t feel like I should have to answer for [those] things.”

He explained his tendency to splurge on Khai to make sure she gets to experience things he didn’t get to.

“I overcompensate a little bit too much, sometimes, for that,” he said. “For sure. I’ll hold my hands up.”

California's girls' sports culture war amps up with massive protest, outrage over recent track and field title

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The conflict over biological males in girls’ sports in California re-entered the national spotlight over the weekend. The debate’s flames were fanned by a large-scale protest at a state high school sports meeting, and then a controversial outcome at a girls’ track and field meet the next day.

The state has become the nation’s biggest epicenter for the issue, and the target of a lawsuit by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly violating Title IX for its transgender eligibility policies.

Internally, many of the state’s residents have continued to dissent from the state for those policies. That dissent culminated in a flashpoint on Friday when dozens of female athletes and their families rallied outside a California Interscholatic Federation (CIF) council meeting in Long Beach to protest.

California Family Council outreach director Sophia Lorey told Fox News Digital it was their largest rally yet, as they’ve held several in recent years.

Local California girls who have been impacted by male competitors in their sports took to the podium to speak out against the CIF for not changing its policies. A total of 16 speakers, comprised of high school athletes, family members politicians and activists spoke at the rally.

Many of the speeches have since gone viral.

Former Jurupa Valley High School student athlete Hadeel Hazameh had to graduate early after speaking out in the fall against a trans teammate on her track and field, and volleyball team.

Arroyo Grande High School student athlete Celeste Duyst recalled an alleged experience of a biological male trans athlete watch her and other girls change in the locker room.

California GOP state assemblymembers Kate Sanchez and David Tangipa showed up to give speeches in support of the girls as well.

Meanwhile, Democrat state assemblymember Josh Lowenthal also showed up to film a Facebook video mocking the protesters, claiming the Republicans in attendance “don’t actually care about women.”

“We all know they don’t actually care about women,” Lowenthal said.

Inside the meeting, protesters on both sides of the issue spoke emotionally about the topic. But Lorey told Fox News Digital that the council members at no point addressed the issue of protecting girls’ sports, or even made eye contact with the speakers.

Singer and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Tish Hyman delivered a boisterous speech condemning the CIF council members.

“Martin Luther King did not march so these trans people, or whatever they are, can use our civil rights to push trans drugs on kids!” Hyman yelled.

Crean Lutheran High School student Reese Hogan went viral last spring when she stepped onto the first place spot on a medal podium at a CIF postseason meet, right after the trans athlete who finished above her stepped off. Hogan spoke in the meeting about having to repeatedly compete against the male athlete.

“On May 4th, 2024, May 10th, 2025, May 17th, 2025, May 30th, 2025, and January 31st, 2026, I competed in meets where I lost to a male athlete competing in a girl’s track and field. These are not isolated incidents, they are repeated moments where female athletes like were directly affected by policies that ignore reality” Hogan said.

Speakers in support of trans athletes in girls’ sports, including a local trans student, also delivered speeches to the council members, that Lorey said went unaddressed.

“This national focus to only brings extreme scrutiny and harm to these students,” the trans student said. “I myself was subject to extreme protest, sometimes hundreds of students protesting against me.”

ACLU of Southern California attorney Kristen Burzynski argued “sports should be for all kids,” at the meeting.

“This is not about fairness. It’s not about protecting girls. It’s about making life harder for young people who are already being pushed to the margins,” Burzynski said. “Transgender students are not trying to cheat or steal trophies. They just want to play with their friends.”

The day after the meeting, a prominent transgender athlete for Jurupa Valley High School won first place in the girls’ triple jump at the VS California Winter Championships. The athlete also won second place in the girls’ long jump.

Fox News Digital is not disclosing the name of the trans athlete in this specific story at the request of the athlete’s mother when we reached out for comment. However, previously the mother and athlete have spoken out publicly and the athlete’s name is widely reported and known.

News of the trans athlete’s victory quickly spread across social media.

Activists across the country have spoken out to further condemn California leadership for enabling such incidents to occur.

New York Times bestselling author Dr. Naomi Wolfe shared news of the incident on X, writing “I just can’t stand this anymore.”

Great Britain Olympic Medalist Sharron Davies wrote in response to the news on X, “Remember 95% of 15/16 boys world records are faster than elite female world records. This is just cheating.”

Former U.S. gymnast and XX-XY Athletics co-founder Jennifer Sey wrote, “How many girls has this one boy pushed off the podium?”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the CIF and Jurupa Unified School District for comment.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a podcast conversation with Charlie Kirk last March that he believed males competing in girls’ sports is “deeply unfair” but has not taken any action or even any verbal initiative to address the situation.

In September, Newsom’s office provided a statement to Fox News Digital in response to the complaints by athletes and parents, suggesting the responsibility falls on the CIF, CDE and state legislature, but not on him.

“CIF is an independent nonprofit that governs high school sports. The California Department of Education is a separate constitutional office. Neither is under the Governor’s authority. CIF and the CDE have stated they follow existing state law — a law that was passed in 2013 and signed by Governor Jerry Brown (not Newsom) and in line with 21 other states. For the law to change, the legislature would need to send the Governor a bill. They have not,” the statement read.

On April 1, the California state legislature blocked two bills that would reverse the current law which allows males in girls’ sports.

Every Democrat voted against it, with Assembly member Rick Chavez Zbur arguing that one of the bills “is really reminiscent to me of what happened in Nazi Germany in the 1930s. We are moving towards autocracy in this country. In Nazi Germany, transgender people were persecuted, barred from public life.”

Zbur said this while in the presence of a descendant of a holocaust survivor, who had to excuse herself from the chamber, according to Sanchez.

“She stood up and left because she was just so disgusted with the comparison,” Sanchez told Fox News Digital.

Newsom made no public statement at the time encouraging any of his fellow Democrats to support the bill. At that point, Newsom had already made his first public statements disputing the “fairness” of trans athletes in girls’ and women’s sports, in the first episode of his podcast after he was pressed on the issue by the late Charlie Kirk.

Newsom’s office provided a transcript of an apparent exchange between him and a reporter on April 2, the day after the bills were blocked, in which the governor said he “didn’t pay any attention” to the bills. He added that he was preoccupied with Los Angeles wildfire recovery.

“Well, I didn’t pay any attention to the committee yesterday. I was, literally, spent most of the day talking about LA fire recovery with our teams. And progress is being made there, by the way, but we’re starting to run up into some of those ‘abundance’ conversations around permitting that’s already starting to take shape, where most of my focus was yesterday,” Newsom said when asked about the failed vote and the general issue of males in girls’ sports.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced 19 new investigations into educational entities suspected of violating Title IX.

Jurupa Unified School District (JUSD) in Riverside, California was at the very top of investigations that ED announced on Jan. 14.

Meanwhile, one of the state’s largest public universities, San Jose State, was determined to have violated Title IX in its handling of transgender volleyball player Blaire Fleming from 2022-24. SJSU receives the majority of its operating budget from state appropriation, with state funding accounting for approximately 52% of its total budget, per the university

The university has an ultimatum to comply with a series of resolution terms, or it could face a loss of federal funding and a potential lawsuit itself.

Prediction markets saw strong results from the Super Bowl, but it was just an appetizer for a banquet of sporting events in 2026 that are expected to drive surging volumes in event contracts.

Kalshi saw record downloads during Super Bowl week, up 1,544% from the same time period last year, according to a report from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Daily active users jumped more than 1,100% to nearly 2 million on the day of the big game, the firm said.

That was almost three times the daily active users on sportsbook BetMGM, co-owned by MGM and Entain, which had 81% growth to 680,000 daily active users. Polymarket reported 59,000 daily active users and 264% growth over the previous year.

More than $1 billion was traded on Kalshi for the Super Bowl, up 2,700% according to the company. Founder and CEO Tarek Mansour told CNBC Tuesday that consumers are drawn by having lots of trading options for the game in one place.

“Our culture markets were huge this weekend. You know, ‘What [Bad] Bunny was going to perform’ was over $100 million in trading,” he said.

Though prediction markets enable users to buy event contracts for a wide swath of financial, weather, pop culture and other events, sports have been driving the action and the profits.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev is pushing back against any investor concerns the Super Bowl was as good as it gets for trading on sports prediction markets.

“What we’re actually seeing is surprising us,” Tenev said on his company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Tuesday. “In January, for instance, NBA contracts surpassed NFL in trading activity on our platform.”

Major sports events keep rolling, with the Winter Olympics offering a variety of betting options through Feb. 22. This weekend, fans will also get an eyeful during the NBA All-Star Weekend.

March brings college basketball madness, with the NCAA Tournament taking off with Selection Sunday on March 15. The entire tournament typically brings in more gambling dollars than Super Bowl.

And then there’s the World Cup, kicking off 104 games in mid-June.

Kalshi has been aggressive in marketing, outspending Polymarket in the United States by about 19 times and outspending DraftKings by about 35%, according to Sensor Tower estimates.

Still, the American giants in sports betting remain dominant. DraftKings saw 5 million daily active users for the Super Bowl and FanDuel had 4.2 million, according to the Sensor Tower data.

The CEOs of sportsbook market leaders FanDuel and DraftKings both told CNBC just before the game that they don’t see any cannibalization of their traditional sports betting business. They instead see real opportunity with sports and event contracts in states that haven’t legalized sports wagering.

Tenev said events contracts are the “fastest growing business in the company’s history.” Robinhood reported a 300% rise in “other revenue,” which is largely comprised of event contracts.

And the growth is accelerating. Robinhood reported 12 billion event contracts in 2025, and it’s already seen 4 billion contracts so far in 2026.

Disclosure: CNBC and Kalshi have a commercial relationship that includes a minority investment.

Budget sets total expenditure at Rs 53.47 lakh crore for 2026-27 as govt balances growth with fiscal discipline: FM Sitharaman - The Times of India

The Union Budget for FY 2026-27 has pegged total expenditure at Rs 53.47 lakh crore, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said while replying to the discussion on the Budget in the Lok Sabha, outlining the government’s strategy of maintaining high capital spending alongside fiscal consolidation. The revised estimate for the current financial year ending March 31 has been placed at Rs 49.64 lakh crore, lower than the Rs 50.65 lakh crore projected in February 2025, PTI reported. The Budget size for FY 2024-25 stood at Rs 46.52 lakh crore. The government has projected tax receipts of Rs 44.04 lakh crore for FY27, an increase of about 8% over the previous year, even as overall expenditure continues to remain significantly higher to support growth priorities.

Tax Holidays, Safe Harbour, Incentives: Budget 2026 Pushes Investment In India, Boosts IT Sector

Record capex push and state investment support

Highlighting the government’s infrastructure-led growth strategy, Sitharaman said capital expenditure allocation has been raised to a record Rs 12.2 lakh crore. This accounts for 3.1% of GDP and is 11.5% higher than the revised estimates for FY 2025-26, she said.On the recommendation of state finance ministers, the Centre has increased 50-year interest-free capital expenditure loans under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme to Rs 2 lakh crore. With this, effective capital expenditure is estimated to reach Rs 17.1 lakh crore, or about 4.4% of GDP, the minister added.

Fiscal deficit and borrowing roadmap

The government has projected fiscal deficit at 4.3% of GDP, or Rs 16.95 lakh crore, for FY27, reaffirming its fiscal consolidation path.To finance the deficit, net market borrowings from dated securities are estimated at Rs 11.7 lakh crore. The remaining financing will come from small savings and other sources, while gross market borrowings are estimated at Rs 17.2 lakh crore.Sitharaman said the government continues to focus on reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio in line with the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) framework. She recalled that the government had indicated in Budget 2025-26 that it aims to bring the debt-to-GDP ratio to 50±1% by FY 2030-31.In line with that roadmap, the debt-to-GDP ratio is estimated at 55.6% in Budget Estimates for FY27, compared with 56.1% in the revised estimates for FY26.A declining debt ratio will gradually free resources for priority sector spending by reducing interest outgo, she said.

Health infrastructure and medical hub push

The finance minister said states can compete to be selected for one of five proposed regional medical hubs through PM Gati Shakti filters.States can propose integrated hubs where medical education and patient treatment infrastructure will be developed together, she said.Dedicated institutions for nursing and 10 allied health services will be set up within these hubs to support skill creation and employment. Over time, these hubs could evolve into medical tourism centres, she added.

Fertiliser availability and farm support

Addressing concerns over fertiliser availability, Sitharaman said there is sufficient stock to support farmers. The government has allocated Rs 1.71 lakh crore towards fertiliser imports to ensure continued supply and price stability, she said.

Centre-state fiscal transfers

On fund transfers to states, Sitharaman cited findings of the 16th Finance Commission, which analysed devolution between 2018-19 and 2022-23.“So, we are not the only ones claiming this. The Finance Commission itself, after studying this in detail, has stated in its report that the money which has to go from the Centre to the states, taking the years 2018–19 to 2022–23 as examples and examining them, has clearly said that whatever amount has to go from the central government to the state governments has been given,” she said.“There is no scope for any doubt in this for the states,” she added. For FY27, the states’ share in central taxes is estimated at Rs 25.44 lakh crore, an increase of Rs 2.7 lakh crore over the previous year. She also said cess and surcharge collections are used for development works across sectors and are separate from the 41% tax devolution recommended by the Finance Commission.

Trade deal politics and opposition response

The finance minister also responded to criticism from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi regarding India’s interim trade agreement with the US.Echoing remarks made by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Sitharaman said, “Koi mai ka laal paida nahi hua jo humare desh ko bech de ya kharid le (no one has the audacity to sell or buy out India).”She further alleged that the Congress-led UPA government had compromised India’s position at the World Trade Organization and also criticised governance and law-and-order conditions in West Bengal.West Bengal is scheduled to go to elections in the next two months.

Cruz Beckham shares nostalgic throwback with Brooklyn amid family feud

Cruz Beckham publicly showed a soft corner for his brother Brooklyn Beckham just a few weeks after the estranged chef announced that he has cut ties with his family beyond hope for reconciliation.

The 20-year-old singer took to Instagram on Wednesday, February 11, and shared a carousel of pictures, leading with one from his childhood posing alongside his elder brother.

In the black-and-white picture, the three Beckham brothers – Cruz, Romeo, 23, and Brooklyn, 26, all smiled looking away from the camera.

The picture came as a surprise to social media sleuths after Brooklyn blocked his family on the app and publicly stated that he had broken away from his famous family.

“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn wrote on Instagram in January.

Amid more allegations against his family, the photographer stated that he never wanted to reconcile with his parents.

Following the surprising olive branch, Cruz’s fans flocked to the comments applauding him for having the “kindest heart.”

Victoria Beckham, herself, also left several ‘heart emojis’ in a comment on the post, while one joked, “Did you contact his lawyer before his face appears on your instagram?”

Many others left wishes for the family to get back together again, with one writing, “hope you get your brother back bro.”

CAQM signs MoU to reduce dust pollution via urban road redevelopment

NEW DELHI: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and adjoining areas on Wednesday issued rules for road-owning and maintenance agencies for deployment and utilisation of mechanized road sweeping machines to reduce air pollution caused by road dust, officials said. The commission noted that road dust is a dominant contributor to coarse particulate pollutant (PM10) and remains significant contributor in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) also, particularly during the drier months.“Inadequate and non-uniform road sweeping practices contribute to elevated ambient particulate matter levels, thereby adversely impacting the overall air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR). Effective mechanised road sweeping is an essential air pollution abatement intervention for the NCR, which has the measurable potential to reduce road dust and consequently lower PM10 and PM2.5 levels,” a senior CAQM official said.“The study of CSIR-CRRI and CSIR-NEERI also recommended several actions to control the dust pollution which, inter-alia, included operation of mechanized road sweeping machines on the roads,” the official added.According to the norms, the mechanised road sweeping machines should be deployed according to the road width for effectiveness of dust control efforts.“Roads in the NCR vary widely in Right of Way (RoW). A RoW-appropriate deployment strategy of MRSMs is necessary to ensure efficient removal of visible dust on roads. Machines should be equipped with an effective particulate matter dustfiltration system to prevent re-entrainment of PM during sweeping operations,” the notification said.“Only CNG fuelled or electric variant MRSMs should be inducted in the new fleet for the sweeping operations. The machines should be able to operate for at least 8-hour on a shift basis. The day and schedule of sweeping of roads shall be declared in advance for convenience of the public,” it added.

Beatrice, Eugenie make plea as King approves police action against Andrew

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who are still trying to wrap their head around the disturbing revelations that have come out from the Epstein files, are now turning to their royal relatives for help.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has already been kicked out of the Royal Lodge and transported to a temporary accommodation at Sandringham estate while Sarah Ferguson is left to figure out things on her own.

Even though reports suggest that the sisters cannot turn their backs on their parents, they have their own families to think about. According to sources, Eugenie is particular was left feeling “sick” about what her own mother had to say about her when she was just a 19 or 20.

Both sisters want to now “draw a line in the sand so that there are no doubts about where they stand”. Now it seems that they are relying on the support from the royal family, who are sympathetic towards them during this tough time.

“The small mercy is that they have a lot of support from their cousins, aunts and uncles who feel terrible for Eugenie and Beatrice and devastated at what their parents continue to put them through,” an insider told Closer.

King Charles’s nieces are “also thinking of their own families” and they “need to protect their husbands and children from this ugliness”.

The source added, “Beatrice and Eugenie have both finally accepted that loyalty to their parents is no longer an option, they want a clean break.”

The report comes after Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the support of the King about an investigation of potential criminal charges if approached by the police.
