Recently, Malaika shared an Instagram post featuring a workout specifically designed to sculpt the lower abs quickly. She captioned it, “Your core is your power center—train it like it matters,” and recommended performing two sets of thirty leg lifts each.
How to Perform Leg Lifts:
Begin by lying flat on your back with your legs raised toward the ceiling at a 90-degree angle. Keep your legs straight if possible, but bending your knees is perfectly fine based on your flexibility and strength.
Place your palms facing down, tucking your hands just beneath your glutes to create a small support or “shelf” that eases the leg raise.
Press your lower back firmly into the floor or mat throughout the exercise to avoid injury.
Arching your back can cause strain.
Keep your chin slightly tucked and lower your legs slowly toward the floor, ideally stopping a few inches above it. You may keep your neck neutral (looking up) if more comfortable, but tucking your chin helps maintain spinal alignment.
Lower your legs only as far as you can without letting your lower back lift off the floor. If you can’t raise your legs back up after lowering them, lift them less next time.
Engage your core as you lift your legs back up to the starting position. Breathe naturally—inhale while lowering, exhale while lifting—or find a rhythm that suits you, but avoid holding your breath.
