Fred Armisen has opened up about his early days in the entertainment world and the relationship he eventually built with Saturday Night Live.
Armisen appeared on the Good Hang podcast, where he sat with host Amy Poehler to discuss his career and how SNL played a key role in the success of his career.
Voicing his thoughts, he said, “The relationship I had to SNL was I watched it all the time. But I really connected to The B-52s [post-punk band] and Devo and Talking Heads.”
“And I’m not saying it in a way that’s like, ‘Hey, I just only like the bands.’ I’m saying that like, Lorne [Michaels, the show’s creator and producer] was communicating with me,” the 59-year-old American comedian and actor quipped.
Armisen revealed the Saturday Night Live’s musical guests were the ones who made him feel valued and heard in a way that cannot be described. Notably, the confidence they gave him helped immensely in improving his comedy.
“These bands that he had on, I did feel like there’s something I understood about the show. And then, like, Mr. Bill and the sketches, but also, like, the bands on there. I was like, ‘That must be fun,’” the Wednesday star quipped.
It is pertinent to mention that Fred Armisen, who joined Saturday Night Live in 2002, performed on the show for 11 seasons.
