Moon not sighted, first fast will be on Sunday, Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces

No evidence of sighting of the moon was received from any place in Pakistan, decision to fast on Sunday was made unanimously, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad


The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the moon was not sighted across the country and has said that the first Ramadan will be on Sunday.

According to Express News, a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir at the Auqaf Hall Peshawar to sight the moon of Ramadan 1446 AH. The meeting was attended by committee members, representatives of Meteorology, Suparco and other institutions were present.

Similarly, zonal committee meetings were also held in Karachi, Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore and other areas, however, no evidence of sighting of the moon was received from anywhere.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, while addressing all the participants at the end of the meeting, said that today the weather was cloudy in most parts of Pakistan and clear in some places. No evidence of moon sighting was received from any part of Pakistan. Therefore, it was decided unanimously that the first day of Ramadan will be on Sunday, and the first fast will be observed on Sunday, March 2.

SUPARCO’s prediction regarding the moon of Ramadan

Meanwhile, SUPARCO has predicted that the new moon will appear on February 28, 2025 at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time and the age of the moon at sunset on February 28 will be 12 hours.

According to SUPARCO, the age of the moon at sunset on February 28 will be 12 hours and the altitude will be 5 degrees. Due to its distance and low altitude, it will be difficult to see it.

According to Suparco, on February 28, the angle between the moon and the sun will be 7 degrees, due to which the moon will not be visible to the human eye.

In view of this prediction, Ramadan is likely to start in Pakistan from March 2, 2025.

Suparco also says that the crescent may be seen in Saudi Arabia on February 28, Ramadan will start in Saudi Arabia from March 1, the Shawwal moon is expected on March 30, Eid-ul-Fitr can be on March 31.

The Suparco spokesperson also clarified that the final decision on the sighting of the moon for Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
