Indian benchmarks, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50, started Thursday’s trading session on a flat note amidst mixed global cues

Sensex Today: Indian benchmark indices — the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 — opened Thursday’s session on a subdued note, tracking mixed global signals. The Sensex began at 83,757.54, lower by 60.15 points or 0.07 per cent, while the Nifty 50 slipped 20.10 points, or 0.08 per cent, to start the day at 25,755.90.

Market moves are likely to remain stock-specific as the earnings season gathers pace. Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Hero MotoCorp, and Life Insurance Corporation of India are among the key companies set to announce their third-quarter results today.

Global Cues

Stock markets in Asia continued their fall as the rout in technology stocks deepened amid investor concerns. South Korea’s Kospi was down 2 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was lower by 1.7 per cent, last checked.

Overnight, Wall Street indices closed in the red, with the Nasdaq 100 posting its worst two-day rout since October and breaching its 100-day moving average, according to Bloomberg. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq index ended lower by 0.51 per cent and 1.51 per cent, respectively.
