A break has been a long time coming for Michael B. Jordan, and next year, he’s finally taking it.
The 39-year-old actor recently revealed plans to step away from acting for part of 2027, something he’s reportedly been planning for over a decade.
“I’ll probably take the rest of next year off,” Jordan told Vogue for their October cover story.
Before that, Jordan still has plenty on his plate. He’s currently filming a Miami Vice reboot alongside Austin Butler and producing the Creed spinoff series Delphi.
Come spring 2027, he’ll shift into promoting his remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, a project he’s directing, producing, and starring in. Once that wraps, he plans to finally slow down.
Jordan told Vogue he expects to spend his time off reflecting and processing everything he’s been through, admitting that he’s been in near-constant motion for years.
“That’s probably when I’m going to do more reflecting and processing of all of this,” he said of the forthcoming break. “I’ve been moving.”
He also joked that he might eventually walk away from acting altogether to focus on anime instead.
The upcoming break comes months after Jordan won his first Academy Award in March, taking home Best Actor for his dual role in Sinners.
Despite the milestone, Jordan revealed that the day after the ceremony, his body seemingly caught up with him, and he fell ill almost immediately following the high of the win.
Jordan has previously said he pushed himself to keep working as much as possible in order to support his parents and siblings, with hopes of eventually easing off once his family was financially secure.
Asked in the same Vogue interview whether he could see himself eventually shifting into smaller character roles later in his career, Jordan hesitated. “I don’t know. My competitiveness—I don’t know.”
He then pointed to Denzel Washington as an example of the kind of career he aspires to.
“I don’t think so. Whatever I wanted to do in life, I wanted to be competitive at, and I wanted to be mentioned amongst the greats.”
