It is being reported that Jennifer Aniston is not changing her plans for the remake of 9 to 5 as an homage to the late Dolly Parton.

For those unaware, the screwball comedy, which was released in 1980, cast the late American singer-songwriter and actress as Doralee Rhodes along with an ensemble cast, including Jane Fonda, Sterling Hayden, Lily Tomlin, Dabney Coleman, Elizabeth Wilson, Jeffrey Douglas Thomas, Peggy Pope, and others.

Aniston, who has now become a producer as well, is working on the remake in collaboration with 20th Century Studios. However, her commitments with The Morning Show and other projects are causing delay in the long-awaited project.

An insider told Radar Online, “Dolly Parton’s unfortunate passing and the impending end of The Morning Show’s run on Apple TV have changed the complexion of the remake.”

“Jen now has the time to devote to pulling together the package, and the public is already showing renewed interest in the original 9 to 5 film, which was Parton’s screen acting debut.”

The FRIENDS alum “idolized Dolly, but she has to walk a careful line in the months ahead to make sure she doesn’t look like she’s exploiting Dolly’s death by continuing to push for this project to get made,” the source stated.

Notably, Aniston has brought screenwriter Diablo Cody on board for the remake of 9 to 5 and is also looking forward to casting one top-notch Hollywood star in the project, such as the Jolene hitmaker’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Zandaya, Ariana Grande, or Sydney Sweeney.

The insider quipped, “Getting this movie made at such a conservative and risk-allergic company as Disney-owned 20th Century Studios was always going to be an uphill battle.”

“No matter what, Jen is not going to let the renewed interest in the classic 9 to 5 go to waste. She’s already sunk way too much time into this project to allow it to slip through her fingers,” concluded the source.

It is pertinent to mention that Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 on August 25, 2026, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.
