My Chemical Romance tease first album in 15 years: ‘It’ll be awesome’

MCR’s last album was 2010’s ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’

My Chemical Romance fans are not okay after the band hinted at their first new album in 15 years.

During the final stadium show of the iconic rock band’s Long Live the Black Parade tour in San Antonio on Saturday, September 12, frontman Gerard Way told fans that the group still hopes to make new music.

“Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that,” he said as the crowd erupted, per fan-captured footage. “Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long. You guys deserve another record. I don’t know when it’ll be. But it’ll be awesome.”

Although no title or release timeline has been shared yet, the comments mark one of the clearest indications yet that MCR is considering its first full-length record since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

After breaking up in 2013, the band — comprising brothers Gerard and Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Frank Iero — finally reunited in 2019 but has largely focused on touring. Their only new release since then has been the 2022 single The Foundations of Decay.

The latest tour celebrated the 20th anniversary of the group’s 2006 album, The Black Parade, which remains their biggest commercial success.

Days before the San Antonio finale, the band also announced an expanded anniversary reissue of the 2006 album, arriving October 23 with six bonus tracks.

“Twenty years ago, we wrote what would become ‘The Black Parade,’” MCR wrote on Instagram. “At the time, we could never have imagined what the record would mean for the band. All we knew is that we had made something crazy, and something we couldn’t wait to get it out into the world. Today, twenty years on, we celebrate its release.”
