Michael Jackson’s upcoming biopic has already made history way earlier before hitting cinemas.
The film, titled Michael, shattered two major records after its teaser trailer got more than 116 million views within its first day.
Data from WaveMetrix revealed that the teaser became the most-watched trailer in Lionsgate’s entire history, surpassing all previous releases by the studio.
However, It also became the most-viewed music biopic trailer in history, beating Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which received 96.1 million views on its first day.
Other major music films, such as Bob Marley: One Love with 60.1 million views, Bohemian Rhapsody with 57.6 million, and A Complete Unknown with 47.2 million, trailed behind Jackson’s record-breaking clip.
The powerful response suggested that fans are eagerly awaiting the story of how the late legend rose from performing with The Jackson 5 to becoming the world’s “King of Pop.”
While the buzz is getting overwhelming, industry experts believe that Michael could follow in the footsteps of Bohemian Rhapsody, which made more than $900 million worldwide.
The movie stars Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, in his first major role.
The cast also includes Miles Teller, Colman Domingo, Nia Long and Kat Graham. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, biopic promises an emotional and intimate look at Jackson’s life and legacy.
For the unversed, Michael will arrive in cinemas on April 24, 2026.
