Inflation remained stubbornly higher in August

Inflation held steady in August, extending a stretch of high year-over-year price increases that have soured Americans on the economy heading into November’s midterm elections.

The Labor Department’s consumer price index rose at a 3.4 percent annual pace for the year ending in August, the same as in July, with energy prices making up a big chunk of all increases.
