Terri Irwin finally says ‘goodbye’ to husband Steve Irwin 20 years after his death

Terri Irwin recently penned a moving tribute to her late husband Steve Irwin on his 20th death anniversary.

Taking to her Instagram, the 62-year-old American-Australian conservationist and naturalist shared a picture of Steve on the same day he embraced death twenty years ago.

In her heartfelt homage, Terri stated that “grief still walks with me like my shadow” after two decades and “with the passing of time I have gained more perspective and understanding.”

She also went on to reveal Steve’s last moments with his family, including their two children, daughter Bindi and son Robert.

Calling to mind, the author of My Steve shared, “We were together as a family, on our crocodile research expedition, for what was to be our final six weeks together. Ours was to be a long and sweet goodbye.”

Steve was busy climbing trees and building swings with Robert and Bindi in his final moments and it now feels like not only did time slow down, but they “all also slowed down.”

“I believe that all of us, every one of us, gets to say goodbye. We just may not know that we’re saying it. Hold every moment dear with the ones you love. Until we meet again,” Terri concluded.

It is pertinent to mention that Steve Irwin passed away at the age of 44 on September 4, 2006. He was shooting an underwater documentary Ocean’s Deadliest in the Great Barrier Reef, when a short-tailed stingray pierced his chest, penetrating his thoracic wall and heart, which ultimately claimed his life.
