Sandra Bullock reveals how she spends her paychecks: ‘I wanted control’

Sandra Bullock has revealed how she spent her movie millions.

The Practical Magic 2 star, who rose to fame in the 1990s after landing a starring role in action thriller Speed, has confessed she was always convinced her acting career would be over by the time she reached her 40s.

So, she decided to invest her Hollywood pay cheques in property which would allow her to retain an income if her film work dried up.

She told Vanity Fair magazine, “I thought, I’m not going to be here past 35 or 40. That’s why every penny I made, I put into real estate-refurbishing and leasing it out.”

Sandra also expanded her work into producing so she would be able to continue work behind the camera even if she didn’t land any more acting roles.

She explained, “I wanted to have control of the narrative and the product. They put actors in their trailers and want us to come out when it’s time to say ‘action.’ But I didn’t feel comfortable with that anymore.”

The Oscar-winner went on to credit her Hope Floats producer Lynda Obst with teaching her everything she needed to know about bringing a film project to life.

“I said to her, ‘I really love being behind the camera on production and development, more than I do being in front of the camera.’ And that woman opened up her cache of knowledge and [taught me] the cost of everything,” Sandra opened up.

The actress has returned to the spotlight to promote her new movie Practical Magic 2 which marks her first film role since the death of her partner Bryan Randall.

Her longtime love passed away in August 2023 after a three-year battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, she recently told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett: “Where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Brian four years before he passed. There was something that had shifted.”

“My person left a lot earlier than the body left. I don’t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you’re just on this treadmill,” Sandra Bullock said, as she spoke of having a partner with ALS.
