Royal family shares heartbreaking update about King’s beloved sister

The Royal Court released a update on a senior member of the family, which pulled at the heartstrings of royal watchers.

The Royal Family of Norway is going through a mourning period after the passing of King Harald V at the age of 89 on August 28, 2026, at Oslo University Hospital. The whole family had attended the emotional ceremony.

Harald’s wife, Queen Sonja was particularly overwhelmed by emotion as their wedding anniversary had been on the same day. The next day, the new King Haakon was appointed after the swearing-in ceremony.

In the latest release from the Royal Family, Princess Astrid, the second daughter of King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha, and the older sister of King Harald V, was seen sitting along with her brother’s coffin.

The lonely photo was a heartbreaking sight, the royal had survived the deaths of both her younger siblings.

“My heart goes out to Princess Astrid, the oldest surviving descendant of Queen Victoria,” one royal user said.

Another added, “In a family, one sibling will have to be the last one to see the departure of rest. It must be v hard for Princess Astrid to see her elder sister and younger brother to have pre-deceased her in life!”

“She both survived her little sister, and now her little brother, what a sadness for her.”

Astrid, who was the first lady of Norway from 1954 until her brother married in 1968, remains active in patronages supporting dyslexia, cancer research, and cultural groups.
