Seated across from Trent Alan Keel at a restaurant in Los Angeles in September 2023, Craig Greiwe was convinced that their first date wouldn’t go anywhere.
“I remember thinking that he wasn’t even remotely interested,” Greiwe said.
But after drinks at Petty Cash Taquería & Bar, now closed, Keel briefly joined Greiwe at Hi Tops, a gay sports bar, where Greiwe was meeting friends.
“I was confused,” Greiwe said, of Keel’s decision to tag along. “I asked if we were going to hang out the rest of the night, and he said, ‘No, I want to go on a second date.’”
The two had connected on Hinge in August. Though Keel had enjoyed himself during their first meeting, he said, “I’m very hard to read when you first get to know me.”
“I would later come to learn that it’s not disinterest, but it’s this lake of serenity,” Greiwe said. “He’s an eternal reservoir of calm.”
Keel, 36, grew up in Moore, Okla., and studied dance performance at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. He left college before graduating to pursue a career as a singer and dancer in Los Angeles. At the same time, he became a hairstylist. Today, he is the marketing director at Amika, a hair care company.
Greiwe, 44, was born and raised in Greensburg, Ind. He has a bachelor’s degree in French from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and another in theater from the University of Southern California, as well as a law degree from Columbia. He is the chief growth officer at GoDigital, a media and technology company.

After dating during the fall of 2023, Greiwe and Keel split off to different continents for work obligations. Keel went to Australia for the entirety of December, and Greiwe went to Europe for most of January. But they stayed in regular contact. On New Year’s Eve, Keel, who was in Sydney, set an alarm for 9 a.m. local time to call Greiwe, who was in London, before midnight.
In late January, hours after returning from his trip, Greiwe met Keel for dinner at Sugarfish, a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles.
“I said, ‘I’m going to stop calling you the guy I’ve been seeing and start calling you my boyfriend,’” Keel said. “‘Do you have any questions about that?’”
“We were on the same page,” Greiwe said. “We certainly don’t have the same point of view on everything. I’m more religious, he’s spiritual. He loves music, I couldn’t tell you the lyrics of any song. He’s a very adept dancer, I fall down a lot.”
But, he added, he and Keel have a similar vision of the life they want to lead.
“Monogamy, children, building this sense of shared existence toward something bigger in the universe than yourself, and that you have an obligation to leave the world a better place than you found it,” Greiwe said.
On Dec. 6, 2024, Greiwe hired a private chef to make dinner at his home before his annual holiday party. The meal was an opportunity to introduce his and Keel’s parents to one another.
While decorating the Christmas tree before everyone’s arrival, Greiwe told Keel that he had purchased three new ornaments. The first held a sake bottle cap from Sugarfish inside, and the second contained a key to Greiwe’s house. The third ornament was hanging on the tree. There was only a note inside that asked Keel: “Will you marry me?”
When Keel turned around, Greiwe was on his knee with a ring box. After Keel said yes, they told their parents. A holiday party the next day was transformed into a surprise engagement party. Several months later, in April 2025, the two moved in together in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The first vacation the couple took together, in March 2024, months before they were engaged, was to what Greiwe described as his “favorite place on the planet”: Coworth Park, a luxury countryside hotel west of London. When he brought Keel there, the staff surprised them with balloons and streamers, a three-foot-tall chocolate egg and cocktails customized to their preferences. Afterward, Greiwe showed Keel the property and told him he hoped to have a wedding there one day.
That vision came to life on Aug. 15, when Keel and Greiwe were married at Coworth Park by Lady Caroline Davison, superintendent registrar of the borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Together with 124 guests, they spent four days before and after the ceremony engaging in quintessential local pursuits, including croquet, archery, falconry — and ferret racing.
