A white rice recall has been expanded by the FDA.
The recall of white jasmine rice from Lundberg Family Farms was first announced in April.
Lundberg Family Farms confirmed to The Independent at the time that 4,500 cases of the two-pound bags of white rice sold at Wegmans were affected by the recall over potential foreign material contamination concerns.
Now, the FDA has updated the recall notice to note that over 27,000 two-pound bags of the rice have been affected. The product is often sold at stores including Wegmans, Target, Walmart, Giant, and Whole Foods.
The updated notice also stated that the rice was sold in 13 states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
The recalled product can be identified with the UPC 073416-040281. Some packages have the Lot Number 260201MA and Best Before date of February 1, 2027, and others have the Lot Number 260202MA and Best Before date of February 2, 2027.
In a statement to People, Lundberg Family Farms said: “The affected product was removed from store shelves several months ago.
“The incident was isolated to a single production run, and no illnesses were reported from consumption of the affected product.”
The white rice recall is the latest plaguing consumers.
A recall affecting 19 million eggs was recently elevated to Class I, meaning “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Nearly 100 people have fallen ill, with 26 hospitalized. There have not yet been any confirmed deaths.
The recall applies to eggs sold under the Country Morning, Cal-Maine Sunups, Brookshire’s, Simple Truth, and Kroger brand names. They will have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026.
A pet food recall also has consumers on high-alert.
Fromm Family Foods has recalled two types of its wet canned dog food following complaints about metal contamination.
The affected products are the Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food 12.2-ounce can, with a best before date of March 20, 2029 and the lot code EP2A3306 551006, and the Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food 12.5-ounce can, with a best before date of March 20, 2029 and a lot code of EP2A3306 551029.
Oma’s Pride has also recalled 639 6lb bags of its Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe after testing found salmonella contamination.
The affected product has a best before date of January 27, 2029 and a lot code of BB012729.
