Ridley Scott reveals why he believes he’s not just filmmaker

Ridley Scott arguably is, if not the greatest filmmaker in Hollywood, and he explains why.

In a new interview with The Times, the auteur gives examples from his career, underscoring how he has been ahead of the Hollywood curve.

Alien changed sci-fi horror. Then, Blade Runner hit cinemas and redefined cyberpunk cinema.

Thelma & Louise helped filmmakers understand a unique way of portraying female characters.

Then, Gladiator widened the canvas of imagination for making historical epics.

“Every time, you are vulnerable, he said, adding, “Also, I never want to repeat myself, and all my films have been on the money.”

Against the backdrop of such an imposing career, Scott gives a title to himself: an influencer.

“I’ve been ahead of the game frequently and, if you’re ahead of the game, you’re an influencer. So I’m not a filmmaker, I’m an influencer,” the noted director argued.

However, the Oscar-winning director, at 88, is still not over yet.

He says there are ideas stashed in his filmmaking bucket list that need to be made.

“I’ve never done a Western,” he shared.

“I have cast Hugh Jackman for my ‘Treasure Island’ adaptation,” Scott continued.

“I want to do a musical and, also, have a marvelous film about the African elephant,” he noted.

For now, Scott is gearing up for his film, The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin.
