For the first time ever, drivers are racing around a Grand Prix course laid out in the nation’s capital, zipping around the National Mall while thousands watch from the stands.
President Donald Trump is in attendance, after taking a prerace lap around the course in “The Beast,” a.k.a. the presidential limo.
The Washington Post sent Michael Noble Jr. to capture the sights, and wire service photographers were stationed at various spots around the course.
