Stylist Law Roach has admitted to avoiding certain fashion brands when dressing Zendaya for red carpet events.
Roach, 48, touched upon the matter during an appearance on the podcast You’d Be an Iconic Guest, where he discussed his history of avoiding brands like Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel, and Gucci.
“You have an unofficial red carpet boycott on Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel and Gucci because they said no to dressing Zendaya when you first started out,” Ziwe began, echoing previous claims from the stylist.
Roach agreed, but then said he feels less strongly about holding onto that grudge now.
“I think that there is an importance of being petty, but I’ve outgrown my pettiness. I think that holding grudges makes you ugly, so in my quest to become more beautiful, I’ve released some of the grudges that I held,” Roach said. “And I’m actually wearing Saint Laurent right now.”
However, when asked if Zendaya would also start wearing those designers for red carpet events, Roach was clear that the answer is still “no.”
He previously explained on another podcast that those fashion houses had repeatedly declined to dress Zendaya when she was younger, telling him she wasn’t ready or well-known enough yet.
He said he kept track of those interactions and pointed out that Zendaya only began wearing pieces from one of those brands publicly once she had an official partnership with them.
Roach also reflected on his long friendship and creative partnership with Zendaya, describing their bond as deeply connected, saying they are like “one soul sharing two bodies,” while also acting as friends, advisors, and even occasional rivals to one another.
