UConn has found its replacement for general manager Tom Moore with the hiring of Charlie Stevens, a source told ESPN on Monday, confirming multiple reports.
Moore transitioned from the bench to the GM role last season and announced his retirement three weeks ago. He was a Huskies assistant coach from 1994 to 2007 under Jim Calhoun before leaving for the head job at Quinnipiac, then returned to UConn for a second stint when Dan Hurley was hired in 2018. He was instrumental in the team blossoming from a sub-.500 group in Hurley’s first season to a team that has won two national titles, appeared in three of the past four national title games and positioned itself to make another championship run in 2026-27.
Stevens has been the director of grassroots scouting for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs since 2025. A source said he arrives with a stellar reputation and that he was widely respected in San Antonio’s organization.
Stevens played for Division III Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was a two-time team captain, graduating in 2021. In college, Stevens worked for a player agency and a team in Israel before he made the decision to pursue an NBA job. Per the school website, he put together 40-page scouting reports and shipped them off to teams during his senior year as he pursued his dream. That process eventually helped him land a spot with the Spurs, who hired him after he graduated.
Hurley wasn’t deterred by Stevens’ “youth,” a source said. Stevens will be charged with adding more elite talent for a program that aims to chase championships in the years ahead.
