Julia Fox steps behind the camera for gritty NYC drama

Julia Fox is stepping behind the camera for her first full-length film as a director.

Fox has previously directed a short film, but she’s now moving forward with her feature directorial debut on a project titled Sixth Avenue Saints, which she also wrote.

The film is set in 1993 and takes place in Brooklyn and Manhattan during a grittier, pre-gentrified era of New York City. The story follows a sensitive 12-year-old boy living in a difficult home environment in Coney Island.

Through a friendship with a resourceful homeless teenager, he becomes exposed to a hidden side of the city, including its underground and marginalised communities.

The production is currently casting extras, looking specifically for adults with an authentic New York presence to help capture the feel of the era.

Fox previously wrote and directed a short film in 2021 that focused on the lives of sex workers in Nevada.
