AAs Marvel gears up for a soft reboot of the universe after Avengers: Secret Wars, according to statements from the franchise’s execs, the X-Men will play a crucial role in the upcoming phase.
In line with this, a flurry of casting has been made, such as Sadie Sink, whose Jean Grey role has been kept secret for a long time and finally makes her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
And now Kit Connor is tipped as Phoenix’s on-screen romance, Cyclops, in the forthcoming X-Men reboot, according to Variety.
But negotiations for the actor, best known for the Netflix series Heartstopper, to play the iconic mutant role are yet to be finalized.
Should the deal go through, Connor will share a screen with Samara Weaving, who has been cast as Emma Frost.
Jake Schreier, meanwhile, is attached as the director for Marvel’s first standalone X-Men movie, as the filmmaker previously helmed Thunderbolts.
On the other hand, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is going on breakneck speed, and its spectacular run even stunned Marvel head Kevin Feige.
“I didn’t — for all the reasons I don’t think anyone did, because of COVID, because of the beating that theatre took for so long,” he recently told Variety.
He continued, “But once the bar had been raised, it could be raised again, right?”
“The first movie to ever cross $100 million over opening weekend was Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man,” the exec pointed out.
Feige noted, “The first to cross $150 million in one weekend was Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3.” The first to reach $200 million was the first “Avengers”.
“And then, of course, the first to $300 million was ‘Endgame’. We did think that things could increase, but the past five or six years didn’t necessarily feel like that was the case.”
“That’s a long-winded way of saying I did not expect “Endgame’s” record to be beat, but I couldn’t be happier that it was beat this past weekend by our 38th MCU movie,” Feige concluded.
