PC Harper’s mother ‘devastated’ as killers may be freed early under new rules

PC Andrew Harper’s mother speaks out after the UK government announced revamped measures to tackle overcrowding in prisons.

The mother of PC Harper reacted after Justice Secretary Alex Norris MP told Sky News that two of PC Andrew Harper’s killers was a “decision we had to make” to ensure a functioning prison system.

These updated changes would enable an early release of two of his killers.

The heartbroken mother of police constable PC Andrew Harper appeared on BBC primetime show NewsNight and opened up on the latest announcement.

“It feels like we’re letting Andrew down again. We’ve been through the justice system, we thought we’d done as best as we could.”

Harper’s mother said her family is “paying the price” after learning her son’s killers remain eligible for early release under the 10th Street decided amended changes.

Under the announced changes, prisoners who committed rape, grooming, and serious child sex offenses will be excluded from the scheme for England and Wales, according to the announcement made on Monday, August 3.

Adlam, declaring to challenge the government’s new overcrowding measures, added, “Now we’re standing up to fight again, so I just feel really let down, for Andrew’s sake as well as ours.”

PC Harper, 28, was murdered in 2019 when trapped and dragged behind a car on a country road after three teenagers ran away from the scene where they had stolen a bike in Berkshire.
