King Charles and Queen Camilla, who have been married for over two decades, faced a tough time over important protocols despite having a high-ranking status in the royal family.
Camilla’s popularity compared to Princess Diana had been fairly low and the cheating scandal that was all over the news did not help her cause. Even after Charles had divorced Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother, the public opinion did not change.
Despite the public verdict, Charles had set a very strict and “non-negotiable” condition for the Palace about her, Camilla had to be a part of his life. This information comes from royal author Catherine Mayer.
She revealed that Charles had “no plan B” about Camilla being part of his royal life. It was the “most unlikely love stories”.
There was a lot of effort made by the Palace to rehabilitate Camilla’s image. Queen Elizabeth II, when she was alive, had warned Charles of certain matters and even urged him to let Camilla’s title be ‘Queen Consort’ and not ‘Queen’.
However, Charles disregarded it all, just to make sure Camilla was integrated into the royal life.
“With Camilla, you only need to see her and Charles together to understand that she has this … magical effect on him,” the royal explained. “It’s transformative.”
She continued, “You would see him tired, very obviously out of sorts. And then she would come into a room, and he would light up. She just lifts him.”
