Tom Holland has revealed that there is already a plan for how the Spider-Man role will one day be passed on to another actor.
The 30-year-old actor was speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast when he revealed that he and the team behind the films have been discussing Spider-Man‘s future since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in 2021.
Holland said they have a clear idea of how the character’s story will continue, although he expects some details to change over time. He added that passing the role to the next actor is something he is excited about.
“It’s laid out. It’s gonna change, for sure. But I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it,” he revealed, before adding, “But that is the thing that I want to do most in this character, for sure.”
The actor was also asked whether there is room for more than one version of Spider-Man.
“Of course I do, are you kidding? I think what’s been so fun over these last few years is that there are so many different Spider-Man mediums.
He continued, “We have Spider-Noir that came out a few weeks ago, we have my version, we have the stuff that Sony’s been doing, we have the animated movies that Sony make, which are just like the best Spider-Man movies that have ever been made, those animated movies. The heart in those movies is out of this world,” he said, before adding, “Of course there’s room for it!”
Holland first played Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. He has since starred in several Marvel films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home, and the newly released Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrived in cinemas this week.
