3 children critically injured after boat capsizes off Miami Beach

Three children were critically injured when a boat capsized Monday off Miami Beach.

Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez said there were a total of six patients, NBC South Florida reported. Five of them are children between the ages of 8 and 12, and the other person is an adult.

The Miami Beach Police Department said it was “managing a multi-agency critical incident involving a capsized vessel and multiple victims between Monument Island and Hibiscus Island.”

All victims have been accounted for, police said in a post on X.

Three of the children were hospitalized in critical condition, according to the news station. One child and the adult were in stable condition. The fifth child was evaluated at the scene.

Details about what happened were not immediately clear. Sanchez said it’s believed that the group was on a sailboat and the adult is a camp counselor, according to NBC South Florida.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is leading the investigation into the incident.
