Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are known to be protective parents to Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, four, and have fiercely defended their rights.
The children, who had recently reunited with their grandfather King Charles, sparked speculation about what the future holds for their potential royal role. However, some “deeply distasteful” remarks forced the Sussexes to release a scathing statement.
Presenter Mark Dolan had said that not only Harry and Meghan will be making life a misery for Prince William and Princess Kate when they ascend to the throne, but this problem is “generational”. He added that Archie and Lilibet when they’re “teenagers and young adults”, would also “make life a misery for George, Charlotte, and Louis”.
In response, a spokesperson slammed the statement, calling Dolan out for “demonising” young children.
“There is a fundamental difference between criticising public figures and choosing to demonise two young children who have done absolutely nothing to warrant it,” the rep said. “To speculate that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will one day ‘make life a misery’ for their cousins is an extraordinary and irresponsible thing to say about children.”
It continued, “We are genuinely disgusted by these comments. Whatever views people may hold about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, children should never be dragged into adult disputes or portrayed as future antagonists for the sake of a provocative soundbite.”
