Bonnie Tyler, singer famed for ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ dies at 75

LONDON — Legendary pop singer Bonnie Tyler, who became a known for hits including “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has died after weeks in the hospital, her family said Thursday. She was 75.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a statement said on her official social media accounts.

The raspy-voiced Welsh singer’s other hits include “Holding on for a Hero” and “It’s a Heartache.”

Tyler emerged from a monthlong coma in June but remained “very unwell” and in intensive care, her family said at the time.

The daughter of a Welsh coal miner, Tyler found global fame and lived with her husband, Robert Sullivan, in Faro, a city in southern Portugal.
