Umar Akmal was sentenced to life imprisonment on corruption charges
Pakistan cricket team s middle order batsman Umar Akmal has been banned for three years in a spot fixing case which will keep him away from all forms of cricket
According to details Umar Akmal who was suspended before the start of the fifth season of Pakistan Super League was charged with two counts of violating the board s anti-corruption code Responding to the notices Umar Akmal did not apply for a hearing in the anti corruption tribunal after which the PCB referred the matter to the chairman of the disciplinary committee
Chairman Disciplinary Panel Justice retd Fazal Miran Chauhan had issued notices to Umar Akmal and PCB for hearing of the case on April 27 and the hearing was held today at National Cricket Academy NCA Lahore during which all precautionary measures and social Distances were strictly ensured and after the hearing Umar Akmal was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment
It should be noted that Umar Akmal was given Article 4.4 of the Anti Corruption Code of the PCB. Notice of Charge was issued twice for violation of Section 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for not informing the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without any undue delay of any person s offer of corruption. Under Article 6.2 a person found guilty of violating Article 2.4.4 can be sentenced to six months to life imprisonment
It may be mentioned here that Umar Akmal was supposed to represent Quetta Gladiators in the fifth edition of Pakistan Super League PSL but due to suspension he was banned from participating in all kinds of cricket matches including the league. And now he will be away from all forms of cricket for three years
