Prince William and Princess Kate have taken special care when it comes to the next generation of the royal family and what the monarchy will look like in the future.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have not shied away from breaking tradition for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. George, who will be turning 13 next month, has a heavy responsibility, since he is the future monarch.
Very well-aware of how the role and how intense the scrutiny is, William and Kate have taken a firm stance regarding George, especially protecting him from any unflattering gossip or scandals.
The royals have been burned enough to know that these rumours always haunt you. According to Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, George has cleared the entrance exam for the all-boys Eton College.
The news is not officially confirmed by Kensington Palace, but Eden insists that he was told on good authority. There had been other schools in the running as well – including Kate’s alma mater Marlborough – but it seems that the parents are not willing to send him to a mixed school.
Editor-at-large Richard Kay suggested that one of the Eton is “safe” because it is an all-boys school.
“One of the principal concerns they had as parents, in the era of smartphones was: every pupil has one and who wouldn’t want to get a photo of George getting a chaste kiss with his first girlfriend?” he said during a Palace Confidential discussion.
“I mean, it’s inevitable, it’s human life, it’s what would happen. I think Eton removes that area of probability for them.”
He noted that when William and Harry were in Eton, the only intrusion came from paparazzi, which was comparatively easier to handle. However, in the age of social media, students with smartphones are riskier to have around.
