Olivia Rodrigo has finally addressed the online criticism surrounding her recent choice to wear a babydoll dress.
For those unversed, the American singer donned a babydoll dress in her Drop Dead music video and at her recent Spotify Billions Club Live concert.
âThatâs been making me so upset,â Olivia told Popcast. âNot even for me. People can say whatever they want. Whatâs really disturbing is I have worn outfits that are maybe revealing on stage. Iâve been on stage in a sparkly br* and little shorts, which is my right, thatâs fun, I felt cool and comfortable in that.”
“And like that wasnât inappropriate, but me fully covered up in a dress that people deemed to be childlike was inappropriate,” she continued.
The 32-year-old songstress further said, “it shows how we really normalize pedophilia in our culture. Also itâs just this rhetoric weâre fed as girls since weâre so little, which is, donât wear that because then a man is going to sexualize your body and itâs your fault. Itâs so weird.â
She went on to say that âI didnât think that I looked se*y in that at all.” I was like, this is so cool. I feel I look like Kathleen Hanna or Courtney Love, all these people who are my heroes, and I felt cool and comfortable in it. “
“I just think if we start dressing in a way thatâs like, âI donât want some fâking freak to think that Iâm sexy like a babyâ or some crazy thing like that, I think itâs losing the plot a little bit. Iâm just very protective of younger women, girls, and I donât ever want them to be fed that rhetoric,” added Olivia.
