Stock Market Today LIVE: The Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, continued to trade higher on Tuesday afternoon, following upbeat momentum in the global markets, as easing crude oil prices supported sentiment.
The Sensex gained over 508 points or 0.70% to 72,896 levels, while the Nifty 50 held 22,700 levels, led by gains Pharma, Oil and Gas and Private Bank stocks. The Bank Nifty index was trading above 55,000 level.
Broader markets also supported the rally, as the Nifty Smallcap 100 index surged over 1%, and the Nifty Midcap 100 index gained over half a percent.
Among sectors, barring Nifty IT, PSU and Realty, all other sectoral indices traded in the green, led by Nifty Pharma.
Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HUL were the top gainers on the BSE Sensex index, while ITC, Tech Mahindra among top drags.
Globally, Asian markets traded higher, while the US stock market rallied overnight, with the Nasdaq notching record closing high, led by gains in AI-related stocks.
Crude oil prices slipped beloe $100 a barrel.
