Five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 class, has committed to Miami with plans to reclassify and join the Hurricanes next year, he announced Thursday.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass catcher from Jacksonville, Florida, gave his pledge to Miami over Florida and Texas. Upon his move into the 2027 cycle, Wright is expected to sign with the Hurricanes in December, joining Miami as the second-ranked member of coach Mario Cristobal’s latest recruiting class.
Wright, one of the most coveted high school prospects in the nation regardless of class, is a junior at Mandarin High School and was credited with 77 receptions for 1,629 yards and 18 touchdowns across his first two varsity seasons. He entered the 2027 SC Next ESPN 300 as the nation’s top-ranked wide receiver and the No. 7 overall prospect in the cycle.
A long-term target for Cristobal and the Hurricanes, Wright logged game-day visits with each of his finalists this fall, concluding with a trip to Miami for the program’s 43-35 overtime win over Florida State on Oct. 17. Sources told ESPN that Wright’s decision to join the Hurricanes early was influenced by the success of star wideout Malachi Toney, who led the nation in receptions and earned first-team All-ACC honors last fall after reclassifying from the 2026 cycle.
Wright follows five-star athlete A’mir Sears as the second five-star pledge in Miami’s latest class, which began Thursday at No. 7 in ESPN’s latest class rankings for the cycle. Between Wright, in-state standout Nick Lennear (No. 33 overall) and four-star Eli Woodward (No. 218), the Hurricanes now hold commitments from three SC Next ESPN 300 wide receivers in the 2027 class.
No. 1 Miami (8-0, 6-0) travels to No. 11 Notre Dame Saturday for a high-anticipated meeting of College Football Playoff contenders. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
