BTS’s song SWIM is back in the news after the three songwriters who accused the group of copying their work decided to drop their copyright case against HYBE.
The case was filed less than four months ago but the songwriters have now asked the court to end it.
Steve Cooper, Jon Sandler and Greylyn Johnson claimed that SWIM was very similar to a song they had written in March 2025.
They, however, said they had made a demo and shared it with people in the music industry. They later believed that parts of their work had been used in BTS’s song.

The three songwriters wanted the court to stop the use of SWIM. They also asked for money from the song’s earnings and wanted their names added as writers.
On November 4, moreover, they filed a notice to drop the case as the judge closed it on the same day. The songwriters did not explain why they had changed their decision and no settlement between the two sides has been confirmed.
HYBE had denied the claims from the start. The company said SWIM was an original song and promised to deal with the matter through legal channels.

The case has ended for now, but the songwriters can still bring the same claims again. No court has found that BTS copied their work.
