A tripper lorry driver, Andy Lloyd, 56, was transporting a load of hardcore to a farm when the grab arm on his truck struck overhead power cables.
The moment Lloyd stepped out of the cab of his truck while his teenage son sat alongside him, he hit the 11,000-volt power lines; an inquest in Ruthin was heard.
Ruthin Coroner’s Court heard Lloyd from Bod Elian, LIanelian in Conwy, jumped out of the cab and was electrocuted when he made contact with the metal step.
Lloyd was pronounced dead at the spot in Tan y Dderwen Farm in Betws-yu-Rhos, Conwy, on May 1, 2026.
The court heard that Lloyd’s son, whose identity has not been disclosed to respect the privacy, had joined his father in the lorry that unfortunate day to try his hand at work.
Senior coroner John Gittins for North Wales East and Central read from the teenager’s statement.
According to the teenager’s testimony read in the coroner’s court, it reveals that Lloyd had moved the lorry closer to where contractors were putting up a shed and where the load was meant to be dumped when the grab arm hit the power cables.
It added that the teenager tried to warn his father of the danger ahead, but Lloyd had already exited the cab.
One of the onlookers rescued the teenager in the lorry and helped him exit safely.
The coroner concluded that the lorry driver Lloyd died as a consequence of an accident.
