Hailey Bieber has shared a side of motherhood that doesn’t always make it into the picture-perfect Instagram posts.
The Rhode founder revealed that she struggled with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after welcoming her son, Jack Blues.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily in an interview published October 30, the 29-year-old said becoming a mother made her more aware of how much women’s bodies go through during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

“Especially after having my own child,” she said.
“That was just a really intense and special journey that I had. There’s so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so many things that happen leading up to having a child.”
Her experience didn’t end after delivery. Bieber said she struggled with PMDD postpartum and believes more conversations are needed around conditions that often go unrecognised.
“After I had my son, I struggled with that a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” she explained.
She added, “Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone.”
Bieber previously discussed her diagnosis on the SHE MD podcast, revealing she was diagnosed around six months after giving birth.
She described the emotional symptoms as far more intense than the PMS she had experienced before pregnancy.
“I was like, ‘This just feels way more intense than before,’ like the lead-up to getting your period,” she recalled.
PMDD can cause severe mood changes, anxiety and depression in the days before menstruation, with symptoms often easing once a period begins.
Bieber and husband Justin welcomed Jack on August 22, 2024.
