Bayern 2-2 Dortmund (Oct 31, 2026) Game Analysis – ESPN

Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane could not add a team victory to personal glory as he missed a penalty before Bayern Munich were held by Der Klassiker rivals Borussia Dortmund in a 2-2 Bundesliga draw at the Allianz Arena.

Konrad Laimer gave Bayern a 38th-minute lead moments after Jobe Bellingham had a goal ruled out for Dortmund.

On the hour mark Kane was handed a chance to cap an historic week, which started in London on Monday with him being named the best player in the world, with a goal when he won a spot-kick, but instead he missed it and Serhou Guirassy promptly levelled.

Dayot Upamecano soon restored the Bavarians’ advantage as Kane made amends for his rare inaccuracy from 12 yards with an invaluable assist.

However, substitute Fábio Silva ensured the miss would ultimately hurt Bayern’s bid to pull clear at the top as he preserved Dortmund’s unbeaten status and joint leadership of the Bundesliga table with a last-gasp goal.

Harry Kane hit the crossbar with a second-half penalty.

There was bad news for Bayern as Ballon d’Or nominee Michael Olise, midfielder Ismael Saibari and forward Serge Gnabry went off injured.

Saibari was helped off the field by two members of Bayern’s medical staff after injuring his right leg in a collision with Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Saibari had a shot saved as he went one-on-one with Kobel and they tangled as Saibari challenged the diving Kobel for the rebound.

Saibari was holding his knee with a pained expression as Bayern medical staff manipulated his ankle. He limped off with the staff supporting him.

Two minutes after Saibari was replaced by Nathaniel Brown, Gnabry went off, too. The forward sat down on the field in clear discomfort but was able to walk off unaided as Josip Stanisic replaced him.

Late in the game, forward Olise lay down off the ball with his hands covering his face and signalled for a substitution. He seemed in discomfort as he walked off.

Bayern were without head coach Vincent Kompany after he was released from hospital this week following treatment for an infection.

Forward Luis Díaz didn’t play following a thigh issue against Arsenal last week, and Jonas Urbig started in place of Manuel Neuer in goal because Neuer has a foot problem.

Bayern face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
