Wawa recalls multiple drinks in five states over life-threatening health risk

Wawa has recalled four of its drinks over a potential health risk to customers with a milk allergy.

The beloved convenience store has recalled a select lot of 16-ounce pints of Wawa-branded Lemon Iced Tea, Diet Lemon Iced Tea, Diet Lemonade and Fruit Punch, according to a press release shared Friday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The beverages may contain an undeclared milk allergen, posing a serious or life-threatening risk for consumers who have a sensitivity or are allergic.

Wawa initiated the recall after it identified and corrected a temporary equipment issue that may have led to the presence of milk in these drinks, even though that ingredient isn’t listed on the label.

The drinks were sold at Wawa stores in five states: Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia. Impacted beverages have been removed from shelves.

The drinks can be identified in 16-ounce pint bottles, with the Wawa Iced Tea Lemon featuring the UPC code 726191018425 and code date of May 15, 2026, printed on top of the bottle. The Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon has the UPC 726191018548 and code date of May 18, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Wawa Diet Lemonade has the UPC 726191055901 and code date of May 18, 2026, and the Wawa Fruit Punch has the UPC 726191018432 and code date of May 19, 2026.

The Iced Tea Lemon was sold at 123 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and the Iced Tea Diet Lemon was sold at eight stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The Diet Lemonade was sold at 12 stores in Delaware and New Jersey, and the Fruit Punch was sold at 53 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Although there haven’t been any illnesses reported to date, consumers with the drinks are urged to throw them away immediately or contact Wawa for a full refund.

Milk is identified as one of the nine major food allergies in the U.S., along with eggs, wheat, soybeans, tree nuts, fish, Crustacean shellfish, peanuts and sesame. Allergic reactions to these nine foods vary but can range from hives and lip swelling to severe, life-threatening symptoms, often called anaphylaxis, that may involve fatal respiratory problems and shock.

The Wawa recall is just one of many issues to hit consumers. Last week, Publix recalled certain 12 packs of garlic knot rolls that don’t list egg in the allergen statement. The rolls posed a health risk to customers who have an egg allergy but don’t see the ingredient listed in the allergen statement. Recalled packs can be identified with the GTIN 29682800000.

Meanwhile, Schreiber Foods, Inc., based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, recalled 144 cups of its Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread for Einstein Bros. Bagels last month. The six-ounce spreads were incorrectly labeled as “Plain,” meaning that anyone who has an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds runs the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. Affected spreads — which can be identified by the Best If Used By date of July 21, 2026 — were distributed to Einstein Bros. Bagel locations in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming.
