Coventry City boss Frank Lampard is not allowing his side to get carried away after they earned a thumping 4-1 home victory over Newcastle United on Monday.
Jack Rudoni tucked away a sixth-minute penalty after Lukás HornÃcek brought down Sidiki Cherif inside the area which gave the hosts a halftime lead.
The Sky Blues made a quick start to the second period as well, and Cherif doubled their lead before Sven Botman‘s belter halved the deficit with 20 minutes to go — making for a nervous atmosphere
But Coventry were able to wrap up their first home Premier League win in 25 years courtesy of further efforts from Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni, and make it back-to-back wins for Lampard’s newly promoted men.
Lampard, whose side moved up to 14th in the table with the win, was over the moon with his side’s performance, but wants them to stay grounded with another “tough” challenge against Tottenham on the horizon.
He said: “We are going to be a relative underdog in pretty much every game, so we have to maximise everything beyond the limit. It’s a good feeling for the players.
“They need to keep their feet on the ground because the next one is tough and the one after that is tough. We looked like a team that was hard for teams to come here (and beat) tonight. That’s the feeling we haven’t had in our first home games this season.
“This gives good confidence, so it’s a balance of confidence against over-confidence for us.
“They have to stay humble to that and understand. Every part of the level has gone up.”
Coventry failed to score in their first four league matches, but it seems Lampard’s side have now broken the shackles after netting five times in their last couple of outings.
Four different players got on the scoresheet, a pleasing sign for Lampard who saw his team finish highest scorers in the Championship last season.
He added: “It’s not a nice feeling, looking at the table and seeing zero goals before Forest.
“Your left-back who hardly scores [Jay Dasilva], scores at Forest, it’s a lovely story but we need more. It’s great and I think it’ll be great for lads going forward to feel that confidence.
“Good for all the players that scored and good for the team to feel that we can rely on that.”
Another 4-1 defeat for Newcastle means they have now conceded the joint most goals in the league so far alongside Bournemouth and Chelsea.
Boss Matthias Jaissle made it clear that the result was not acceptable, but feels they were better than when they lost by the same scoreline to Leeds a month ago.
He said: “I think it was a tough story throughout the whole match. There were elements in both boxes where we need to step up and improve.
“It’s not something we can compare with the Leeds match today because I think we were at least better.
“The goals we conceded, it was a different story. We were better after the first 10 minutes, we dominated the game but conceded easy goals, which we need to improve.
“If you conceded eight goals in two away matches on Monday evenings, then it’s not good enough for the Premier League.”
The loss leaves Newcastle 11th in the Premier League, with eight points from their first six matches.
